Nintendo has purposely kept from hyping the machine to keep from having shortages like they did with the Wii initially.
Yes, lets not try and promote a new console so we don't sell out. What the fuck is this?

It's called a business strategy. It's bad if demand outweighs supply, or vice versa.
I wasn't aware of the fire and protest. That certainly will impact sales due to even more limited quantities. But I think you are missing the point.
Lack of hype deliberately is what in part is due to the easier ability to find a console right this minute.
Least that is what some analysts, like Patcher, are claiming.
Either it's that or Nintendo just botched this launch horribly. (Possible, but not very probable, knowing the Big N's history and that gaming is their only bread and butter.)
Nintendo is trying to reduce hype to ensure the units are readily available....You guys have officially lost it.
yep, I'm not flipping mine until a week into december. If prices don't increase I'll just return it. on the otherside, I'm not buying anymore until the price increases.Talking about this before BF is pointless.
You don't think it creates MORE hype when your system sells out the first day? I mean I am not saying they should handle it like Sony did last time around, but come on, selling out is not a bad thing.
Shipping is probably something that the buyer will pay, unless the seller offers free shipping that is. But if it is sold on Ebay for around $450, then Ebay will take about $40 in fees. There is definitelly not much profit to be had on the private WiiU sales right now.Prices have come down to $390-$420 range. Not much profit for a seller who needs to pay
~$20 taxes from buying it
~$20 to ship it
~$20 in ebay paypal fees
Wasnt it the opposite that was said? Shipping fewer units, so it sells out quickly in an attempt to create more hype. I havnt read all posts here though, so i might have missed something.Nintendo is trying to reduce hype to ensure the units are readily available....You guys have officially lost it.
GAF is always notorious for jumping the gun. Wait until after this weekend and try to find a deluxe system..
Yes it will. But again, Nintendo is trying to manage that hype for the long term since there are limited amounts of Wii u's till the first of the year. Plus Nintendo is bound to sell out with Black Friday and Christmas coming. According to Neilson it's the second most wanted item with kids anyway. Santa will deliver.
It's not like the movies. Selling out day one isn't the only way to keep the sales train going.

I'll never understand people who need something so bad that they're willing to pay more than the MSRP. I mean, they'll be in store again eventually anyways, so why exactly would you pay more simply to have it now when you know the person on the other side is laughing their asses off because you're so dumb?
That is probably true given the black friday weekend. But, every single and Target and Walmart listed them as in stock this morning and yesterday in my MD area.

I live in D.C. and have zero luck locating a Wii U. Several stores have them listed as "in stock" but none actually do. All the MD and VA stores included.
Are they REALLY in stock though? As in, just walk in and buy one off the shelf? For example, I checked my Target on Sunday since it was next to the Gamestop I preordered at. The store tool says in stock but it was sold out on Sunday. I *think* if these stores are showing stock, their system may be wrong OR if they've gotten more in, they've probably been instructed to hold them for Black Friday. Good luck to those hunting. Except for flippers. Ya'll can wait haha.
I wonder how they keep that inventory. I put down 5 bucks on a pre-order coupon, but have no intention of buying it since it's not worth flipping. The reserve coupon says it's guaranteed to be held for 7 days. It's possible the computer accounts for those (until Sunday). Wonder if the computers will be more reliable come next week.
They did because they actually got new units. I saw that they were in stock and headed over to target this morning. The family in line in front of me bought all the deluxe units. They had a single white one left by the time I got to the front of the line. That is probably true given the black friday weekend. But, every single and Target and Walmart listed them as in stock this morning and yesterday in my MD area.
If you can find a WiiU anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it.
I think what also may be happening is that some stores that took pre-orders still have unclaimed units therefore still showing up in the system as "in stock". One of the Target's I contacted said they only had units from pre-orders in stock; it was one of the Target's listed as having them available.
Interest can only stick with you for so long. After a while it'll go away. Many buyers like what's 'New' so you have to take advantage of that.
Hopefully next week supplies will be running low and demand high.

Seriously.
Fuck re-sellers.

What's the problem?
What? What?
Nintendo wants every unit sold as soon as possible, just like every other company on the planet. Simple as that.
I have a natural predisposition to hate on those who flip electronics on eBay (and much more for the suckers who buy them) so I'm pretty content with how the matter with the "disappointing" launch of the WiiU has turned out in this regard.
I'll never understand how anybody is willing to pay a markup anyway. (Not talking Wii U specific but in general)
Resellers are.
I suggest you guys take a class of Econ 101.
It's obvious that a company wants to sell everything it makes at a high profit. However that's a pipe dream of a business strategy.
They have to have proper return on their investment. Nintendo doesn't have other areas to steal capital from like Microsoft and Sony do to help subsidize their gaming busineses. And outside of their last year in reports due to the 3DS, they have a champion of a track record.
Especially compared to Sony and Microsoft.
Asshole. My brother got four. Two for keep, two to sell..![]()
1)Impatience
2)Hype from being sold out
its crazy that back when the wii came out, people were willing to spend 300-400 dollars for the thing, fast forward to today and you can go to any gamestop and get a used one for 40 dollars, even less if you wait for pre-owned deals.
