Volume 2 will come with songs for Sachi and Silica. Volume 3 will almost certainly have at least a Lisbeth song, and volume 6 will probably have one for Leafa.

Unfortunately for you, while I know that Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Hiroaki Hirata are both very capable of singing, I doubt they'll get a chance.

Darn, after hearing the Gon v Hisoka duet fight character song for new HxH, I wouldnt have minded hearing more character duets in other anime, like even this SAO, Klein and Kirito, or even Kirito and
Akihiko

Watched all 20 eps these last two days. This show rocks! Though I'm not enjoying the new world as much as the old, still enjoyable.

Started watching the series pretty much exactly a week ago and I've have now catched up to episode 20.

What am I to say? I really liked the series a lot for the first ~10 episodes. The show always had some annoying flaws that kept it from being truly amazing, but it was still great enough to keep me highly entertained all the while.

The show always had some problems with its pacing (I guess they cut a bunch of stuff from the light novels?), but from then on it becomes really apparent and frustrating. The whole love relationship between Kirito and Asuna is given no time to actually grow (seriously, they go from "can't stand you (for whatever reason)" to "first kiss" to "LET'S MARRY AND SPEND OUR WHOLE LIVE TOGETHER" and finally to "Oh, we've got our first child" in like ten seconds) and the ending of arc 1 came pretty much out of nowhere. The chapter was closed before it really felt finished.

But, well, still nothing too bad.

Arc 2, however? I don't think there's been a single good episode since episode 15. Kirito's sister is awkward, way too incesty for no reason and her alter ego is pretty much an awkward copy of the early Asuna. She's not interesting at all and the same can be said about all of the new characters. Arc 1's characters weren't anything to write home about, but at least they did their job and didn't feel like the writer was copying himself all the time.

I won't even start talking about arc 2's non-sensical plot!

So, yeah, I'm pretty disappointed at this point. I hope the series will be able to pick up again, but I'm not sure if 5 remaining episodes are enough to make a difference.

I gotta agree with you completely on this. I've just recently got into this series and am currently on episode 18 and if the show were to have started within ALFheim I wouldn't have become this invested in it. The SAO storyline was much more gripping and suspenseful which is the reason why the Asuna / Kirito relationship made you feel for their situation.

Learning about Kirito's sister awkward fascination with her "brother" is just weird. It made me even google up "do cousins get married in Japan?", which in fact I learned they can.

Anyway, I'm aware the light novels have the characters going into a total of 4 different games so far so I'm going to stick with this show.

Not going to lie. Fairy Dance is like 30% awesome nonsese and 70% stupid crap in book format.

Here it's 30/60 of the before and 10% Dio.

Namely, I'm in this to a) Make sure Mother's Rosario: The animation happens and b) TO hear Dio Freak out twice in as many series.

Mother rosario must happen ..i have no doubt given the sales of SAO but still
such a powerfull volume.

Episode 21

It's FINALLY going somewhere. I know some people liked the last two or so episodes, and they were definitely decent, but with such a definite and urgent goal, I just want to see the story going and finally got what I've been waiting for since, what, episode 15?

I just marathoned the first 16 eps and WHY

edit: okay, at ep 20 now. i'm willing to forgive

Does the cousin/sister know thats her brother in game, with the last name and all? Also why does she keep referring hi as her brother?

She doesnt know that Kirito is her brother in game since he isnt using his real name in game.

Episode 21
tumblr_me0aqmRjlp1r60zuio1_500.gif

Pretty good episode whenever Kirito was on the screen interacting with Imouto and answering questions and stuff
and so sad for her broken heart if only she that that is Kirito in game and such, however, I guess there is no win for her situation since both in game and out of game he is with Weaksuna.
World building with the school stuff was the part I enjoyed most, hope we get a school arc?

The rest was just plain awkward and not that Im not used to it since Ive seen tons of good fanart of my favorite characters and even Kirito with it...but just Asuna and such was plain weird and awkward and kind of creepy, especially
when it even went into her dress, did not want to ever see that or even any tentacles with her

Episode 21

Weird, why was this episode only like 10 minutes long? It was pretty weird watching it, since it felt like at some points I spaced out and suffered temporal memory loss. Anyway, for a shorter episode which just builds up to the Grand Quest, it was okay. Nothing happened at all, but the backgrounds scenes were really nice. Some of the direction was odd though, like
one moment Asuna was opening a door and got a shock, and the next moment she's locked back in her cage by some slugs things. Weird. I guess she got caught right after opening the door!

At least there wasn't anything creepy and gross like more incest pandering, or random tentacle rape. I don't think my brain would have been able to handle it if there was some extended sequence where the sister-cousin-whatever whined about her feelings for Kirito over and over again. Thankfully nothing of that sort happened! Whew! Still, I wonder why they decided to release a 10 minute episode this week...

Episode 21 was good .

Now let's get something out of the way :

The reason why the bad guys have tentacles is that
just like wings you can control them with your mind if you're accustommed to them.. meaning that they can multi task that way (more tentacles = more work done )

This wasn't done 100% for fan service and creepyness , just 50-50.

Now on the episode itself it was rather faithfull to the LN ..nothing to add on that point ..i hope to see more of ALO animated once this arc is done.

Yui
moaning was a nicely done ..everyone does that when you boot up , right ?

Another trivia people aren't aware of
is that ALO was made to toy with emotions so it's set that if you want to cry , but can't stop it easily ..better not log-in when you want to cry otherwise you'll cry shortly afterwards in the game..

oVerall i enjoyed this episode like i enjoyed ep 18 ...it was ok...

Bout ready to flip the table. They skipped out a rather big bit of Fairy Dance to shoehorn in all that "I can't belive I want to jump my bro's bones" nonsense.

How disappointing. I saw that preview screenshot above and thought this episode was going to feature a purple diplodocus.

Also how blind is Kirito? They are walking forward in a straight line but only after a certain point did they noticed THE BIG FLIPPIN' TREE in front of them. You know, the one you can probably see from the edge of the map. It's like not noticing the moon in Majora's Mask. What a plonker.

what did they leave out? The whole fairy arc has been bad.

I don't know why people single out this arc when the whole show's been either bland or terrible in varying quantities. The only difference with this arc, especially going by the latest episode, is that it shows that the people making it are completely fucking shameless.

what did they leave out? The whole fairy arc has been bad.

There's this big bit which, if memory serves ether ended book 1 or started book 2 of FD where Kirito and Leafa are in a dungeon and they encounter a big collosus style monster that they end up befriending like Silica did Pina and they have a big todo with it.

But here instead, they skipped that and threw in more siscon and extended the scene of Asuna geting a bunch of tenticles for her troubles because that's what I signed on for(!)

what did they leave out? The whole fairy arc has been bad.

Well they ignored a dongeon on the way ..it's basicly a set-up for more events ( a super big events after this arc )

It would have been both characters arguing about MMo mecanics and a thing about how cute some monster is .... finishing in a series a battles against players and an actually big discovery [starting some events for that other arc]

They probably removed this part to add it afterwards in some oav ( or they can put it in the second season and change some light details )

You can lie to GAF but you can't lie to yourself. You know the taste of purple tentacle and you can't wash it out of your mouth, no matter how had you try.

Sword Art Online 21

This episode was terrible and thoroughly flawed, only ever elevating to mediocrity with the first instance of
Suguha’s tears
and the disappointingly brief section of this episode that actually allowed Asuna to be marginally
useful
, temporarily ceasing the perpetual attempts to ruin her characterization. Regardless of these few moments of decency though, this was easily the worst episode of them all, as, essentially, it was entirely devoid of satisfying developments, consistent characterization, or, aside from the aforementioned
tears
, a single moment that was remotely enjoyable, culminating with the idiotic usage of
tentacles
. I suppose there was also a sliver of plot development in this episode, but when it's so easily drowned out by the
tentacle fanservice
and the furtherance of the plodding imouto storyline, it's really not worth mentioning.

The horrible Suguha and the continued focus on her
love for her brother
had far too much prevalence throughout this episode, and the entirety of ALO, for that matter. She remains wholly unsympathetic and quite unlikable, despite the numerous attempts to portray her otherwise. As such, it's rather amusing that she actually appeared to expect she had a chance to
begin a relationship
with someone that has effectively been
her brother
all this time, but I suppose intelligence was never associated with Suguha in the first place, so it certainly wasn't surprising that she placed hopes in this seeming eventuality. This initial
heartbreak
will inevitably create a greater level of immense satisfaction upon her realization that
Kirito is her brother
, so, at the very least, her involvement in the story has one enjoyable element to it's existence.

Asuna's heightened involvement and consequent focus, though largely welcome and temporarily interesting, was, unfortunately, rather slow and tedious. However, it was quite satisfying to see Asuna regain her former characterization, since, finally, her inclusion in an episode signified something far more significant, however temporarily, than her perpetual
isolation in a cage
. Of course, she was still
recaptured
towards the end of the episode, since she obviously won’t be given the ability to
escape on her own
, as the entirety of this terribly-written arc hinges on the seemingly unavoidable portrayal of Asuna as a
damsel in distress
; one who clearly, despite her attempts to
escape
, will inevitably and predictably need to be
saved
by her
knight in shining armor
, which, in turn, creates a ridiculously thin and contrived narrative.

As expected, the laughably bad
tentacle fanservice
was as unnecessary as it was excessive. In fact, though it was pointless in the last episode, it thoroughly detracted from this one, since the sudden appearance of this ludicrous stupidity was completely inconsequential and remarkably random.

The final scene proved to be an impressively exciting conclusion, but I'm certainly not confident in the storytelling for the remainder of the narrative, aside from two select moments, due largely to the woeful material and their inability to adapt ALO into something that's even a slight improvement over said material.

All in all, following two decent episodes, Sword Art Online has, once again, rapidly deteriorated to a level of atrociousness it has never come close to before, riddled with an insurmountable plethora of narrative and characterization flaws. The structure of this entire arc and the abundance of trite, uninteresting developments within are wholly indicative of atrocious writing and a mediocre, unimpressive execution of the narrative. Of course, these criticisms could potentially be overlooked if the story was the least bit entertaining or enjoyable, but, unfortunately, unlike SAO’s arc, it really, really isn’t, due, in large part, to the unfortunate realization that there’s absolutely no weight or tension in any of the narrative developments, instead faltering, due to the incredibly ludicrous villain and the
incest
subplot, into a repetitive, unintended hilarity that doesn’t complement the “story” at all.

People kept going on about how it was porn and whatnot so I was doubly disappointed.

I'm expecting my hardcore nudity next week then.

Episode 21 was kind of disappointing.. Actually, ALO is disappointing as a game. No boss fights, Kirito is overpowered and he only plays for two or three days, no Asuna...

This end is kind of promising thought. I really want to see what will happen next.

Sugo sucks. I want to see more of him, but he really seems like an idiot.

it's too bad that they ignored that dongeon if you wanted to see more fights ..but they kinda focused on the issue at hand ( saving asuna ) ... i'm pretty sure you'll enjoy ALO when they'll have time to tell about it ( something they don't ATM ) since it has some very funny features

I wish they didn't skip "that" part in the novel. The hell, they put in all the extra and even put some filler for first SAO arc, but they skip the shadow of the colossus moment? Wasted opportunity.

Anyone else found the second world to be kind of a deal breaker? Ever since Episode 14 I've been feeling like they're rushing the plot to the point where it's actually kind of boring.
