I think the branding and the marketing is a far bigger blunder than the hardware could ever be imo. Marketing was a big part of what of what made the Wii such a success. I've had to clear up the whole "is it a controller for Wii?" question way more than I should last few weeks.

some people probably don't like condoms but i put one on the gamepad to keep the fingerprint at a minimum. it was bad the first few days. but looks great now.

hm, at least in Germany they tell you in the ads it is a new console. maybe the PS360/Wii generation is just too long, so people forgot there are new consoles every few years or people are going WTF if there isn't a (different) number behind a known console name.

I don't know what has gone wrong really. Nintendo of America's marketing team is quite competent, though the quality of the marketing materials they have produced for Wii U hasn't really been up to standards, nor has the communications. Ah well, they'll hopefully come around.

Random question: Where is the best place to get the official nintendo wii remote + nunchuk. I realize I need more sets now with NL and other games. Is it just nintendo.com? Or is there anywhere where they're not exorbitantly priced?

Also I assume the Motion Plus thing is totally irrelevant now right and I don't need to worry about it?

I'm assuming you're in the US? If so, you can buy FlingSmash from Toys R Us for $22.98: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10870696
There's a limit of one per customer if ordered online. If you check your local Toys R Us, I believe they ring up for $24.98. FlingSmash comes bundled with a black Wii Remote Motion Plus. If you are going to buy it in-store, I suggest taking advantage of this current Groupon deal: http://www.groupon.com/deals/dc-gxb-toys-r-us-november
For $10, you get a $20 certificate to Toys R Us. You'll essentially pay $13-$15 for FlingSmash and the black Wii Remote in this way.

And then there's Wii Play w/Wii Remote Motion Plus bundle from Wal-Mart's online site for $15: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wii-Play-...xY2VJAk&sourceid=02843288203609141732&veh=aff
It's sold out online but you can do in-store pick-up if you have one nearby that has it in stock.

If you have 900 Club Nintendo coins, you can get the gold nunchuk that will be restocked tomorrow, Monday, November 26: https://club.nintendo.com/rewards-details/a/29508.do
Also, black nunchuks are $9.99 at K-Mart if you can find it in stock: http://www.kmart.com/nintendo-wii-n...W030725030001P?prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8

Edit: My math was off.

The new wiimotes came with the plus inside. Nintendoland is necessary the zelda game.

Has anyone noticed that the colors are kind of dull or washed out? I was just playing NSMBU and the picture looks ok on the gamepad, but on my monitor not so much. Is this something I'm doing wrong? I have an IPS monitor I'm plugging into and the picture isn't very good compared to my PS3, which uses the same port and cable.

The Wii U can only output limited RGB mode, this will look horrible on PC monitors, the PS3 can output in full RGB mode so will look fine.

It takes far less time to type 'Wii U' into Google than it does to type out a Twitter message asking about it. Regardless of how good/bad Nintendo's marketing is, these people are idiots.

Wii 2 should have been the name though. It's (almost) idiot-proof.

I guess it's good they're talking about it at all though.

On one hand, Nintendo's original Wii U "lifestyle" video presentation was extremely confusing and poorly thought out.

On the other hand, people really are complete idiots in general. A very large number of people cannot seem to figure out what something is unless super saturated in marketing that uses baby talk, for months.

Perhaps Nintendo's marketing is not the best thing to cross over with how dumb the public can be. On the other hand, this IS 2012. We have twitter now sample what the common man is twee-thinking instantly.

While I'm not saying Wii's launch was just as confused, I do recall seeing a lot of people baffled by Wii as well and completely unable to figure out if it was even made by Nintendo. Or if it played "normal" video games, whatever people thought they were asking. Many thought it was one of those dedicated sports game devices that hooks up to a TV. If twitter had been the in thing then, I'm sure we would have seen tens of thousands of "WTF is Wii?" tweets.

People are talking about a product even if they don't know what it is. There's no way to buy a spare gamepad yet, so there's no potential harm to morons who think it's just a controller that works with the Wii. Leverage idiocy to generate word of mouth.

I thought this exact same thing. I wasn't sure which way it was supposed to be at first (which makes me feel a little dumb but whatever) and I just assumed the vents needed to be facing up, so that's the way I had it initially. Then I noticed the pegs and thought hmm

Yeah, I left mine with the vents facing up too.

Yeah, this I agree with. 'Wii 2' would have cleared up any possible confusion over what the thing is.

Though I'm kind of surprised they stuck with the 'Wii' name in the first place, I was expecting something unrelated. Had always figured that 'Nintendo' was the recognisable brand, not 'Wii'

I'm noticing a crackling sound coming from certain games. Switched out the HDMI that came with the Wii U for the one I use for my PS3 and still noticed it. Never noticed it before with my PS3 so I'm not sure if it's the TV or the Wii U. Hell, could it even be the Wii U doing it?

Yeah, I left mine with the vents facing up too.

Are the side vents exhaust or intake? Logic would suggest that - if stood on the side so the vents are at the bottom - they should be intake, with exhaust out the back. It this is Nintendo so who knows?

One question about Communities on Miiverse: can you make your own community (for example, NeoGAF's Community) or they exist only for games?

Thanks a lot for all the info. Going to grab the gold nunchuk as well since I think I should have enough points now.

Isn't Tekken Tag Tournament 2 around 17 GB as well?

EDIT: Oh and fuck it, I'm buying Nano Assault ASAP.

I have my wiiu in my bedroom, I just realized I can use the gamepad controller on the floor below it which happens to be my living room (without losing connection) .. so awesome!

Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo, or Chasing Aurora. I am having trouble just choosing one of them to purchase for now. What game would you recommend?

I know everybody is saying "THIS is the Scribblenauts to get" and whatnot but after the first I cannot muster even the slightest interest in that series.

Picked up scribblenauts unlimited at best buy for $35, good deal I think

($5 reward zone coupon, $40 target price match)

Wow, thanks for the head's up! Just picked it up for $40 at Target. I hadn't bought a launch game yet because I hadn't decided whether $60 was worth it, but at $40 I'm more comfortable buying Scribblenauts; I'm expecting $40 worth of entertainment.

wait Scribblenauts was also delayed to 2013 in Europe?

I'm still looking for my fourth launch game besides Mario, Nintendoland and Sonic (ZombiU will be rented, I really sucked at the game at gamescom so I will have a first look before buying it)

I know I'm late to the party but I downloaded Youtube on the Wii U and I was pretty disappointed with it. Something about this program doesn't seem right. Like the Youtube experience is harder to navigate or something.

Thinking about picking up a new game. All I got right now is Nintendo Land. Thinking ACIII and NSMB Wii U at the moment.

I finally hooked up my Wii U and started messing with the system. I have a couple of notes:

1)It does feel next gen, especially in terms of social interaction.

2) The OS is a little slow, but that can be fixed.

3) The black Wii U Pad is stunning!!

Anyone know what the deal is with the code on the top right corner of the Nintendo Club pamphlet? It is not a pin number. Is it just a manual number for the QR code?

1. I had bad frame stuttering on about half of the videos I watched.

2. I only had about a 50/50 chance of any of my subscribed to channels having videos in them... videos showed up fine on search.

3. The youtube browser page is 100x better than the app. If you don't want to deal with scrolling, the mobile page still works better than the app as well.
