Gamer-approved laptop recommendation thread

I can recommend the ASUS N76VZ. 17" and 1080p. and emulated games run pretty well most of the times

no idea if wii works though. i could manage to run twilight princess at stable 30fps but for example twin snakes runs pretty poor here.

I know I'm late, but I wanted to add my 2 cents.

Yeah, my Dell 7720 (basically, same everything as yours) deals with PCSX2 pretty nicely, specially if you set it to software rendering with 8 threads, but also with hardware and 2x or 3x res. Dolphin though... Wind Waker runs pretty much perfect at 3x res but it's GC. The Wii games I've tried running here kinda choked, like SS on the other end, that didn't run good even at native res. You need a lot of CPU for that stuff, and I haven't tried any non-demanding Wii games, sorry.

Not saying that you won't be able to run maybe 40% of the games, and also keep in mind, very important, that I don't think you can decently run SMG, SMG2 and other demanding games on any laptop right now.

I will commit seppuku if the new thread is not finished today. I appreciate the patience.
Non-gaming laptop for a friend whose budget is $350 - $400. Recommendations? I've been looking at some of the Dell Inspirons in their outlet. There are some coupon codes available. Any suggestions for the range?

They first emailed me this Acer, but I've been reading that the processor is HORRIBLE.

Time is of the essence.

I'd consider this ASUS. All of their laptops have 2 years of warranty, even the lowly priced ones, which separates them from other machines in this range.

Thinking of going with the IdeaPad Y580 with the blu ray drive and the 1080p display. It was between this and the Alienware M14X for the price range, but the Y580 seems to be a better deal with the display and BRD upgrade. Any thoughts on this?

Also, for the Y580, it seems to come with a 16gb SSD for the OS, is this easy to swap out for a 128GB M4 SSD later? Thank you.

With the desktop 700 cards currently unannounced, the earliest we see them is Q2 of next year.

The 6770M is actually like.... 40% faster than the 630M. You'd need at least Nvidia's GT 640M GDDR5 to feel a substantial upgrade.

Damn. :(

I don't mind spending a little over 700. Would the MSI you posted earlier be a better upgrade then?

Hello guys,

I have buildt pcs in the past etc top spec ones but they take to much room. and power etc.

I would like a gaming laptop. around £800 to £1500.

Bear in mind im in the uk.

I would like some good UMPH. I used to playing games on ultra etc.

Ive been looking.

What are some good brands or unknown brands which are good.

thanks.

Hey guys, is this any good? My old Asus died a while back a K61IC.

or this one?
NEW Asus A53SD-TS71 Intel QUAD Core i7 @3.1Ghz TB 2GB NVIDIA DEDICATED 750GB HD
For Gaming? Not really! If you just wanna browse the internet, write stuff, go ahead! It says it has Integrated Graphics. But they dont even mention if its the HD4000 or 3000. Even if its the 4000 you cannot play much besides lil indie games.

I love mine. I was skeptical of the 1080p screen on a 15" laptop but its beautiful. I have the fonts a bit bigger to be readable. Graphically it plays most games on high at 1080p and the trackpad and keyboard are great - trackpad is the closest I've seen to a MBP trackpad so far.

SSD is a normal mSSD connector so yes you could swap it out. It's odd how lenovo have so many different variations for different countries. Here in the Uk it's quite expensive, but it comes with a 64GB SSD

I'm about to post the new thread. I'll then link the thread in here. The OP is two posts, so please don't post immediately.

So my lovely godfather bought me a new laptop as a belated birthday gift. Its an Alienware M14X R2 and currently in production, so I'm not sure I can change any of the customizations he chose.

Let me know if this sounds solid from a performance perspective (obviously being a gift the price is irrelevant), and if there is anything I should keep on the radar as far as upgrading. Thanks GAF.

Alienware M14X R2
Intel Core i7-3630QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
14.0" High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight
2 GB DDR5 NVIDIA GeForceGT 650M using NVIDIA Optimus technology
32G mSATA caching SSD
750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner, DVD+-RW
Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di with THX TruStudio Pro Software

Also this would be my first Alienware laptop, any concerns I should keep an eye on from folks who own or have owned an M14x R2?
