Need For Speed Most Wanted - PC Performance Thread

Double post, but whatever... this game is definitely not fixed. Not seeing any real improvement in performance and my GPUs are still doing the same shit where they're sharing 100% of the load over three cores (so each GPU only hits ~33% usage).

Fucking Criterion. I hold about as much hope of this getting fixed as I do with Hot Pursuit.

Oh, I did notice this with the "patch", though:

So now there's a stack of cars where I'm not sure if they're DLC or not until I get right up next to them. Awesome.

Fixed a friends issue where users with 99 friends PLUS pending friends invites were seeing crashes.
Fixed headlight graphical corruption on AMD graphics cards
Fixed performance degradation when running under SLI and Crossfire configurations

[PS3]

Fixed an issue where the game was requesting autolog info too often
Fixed an issue where the player was crashing when accepting an invite from certain single player events when not connected to autolog.
Fixed an issue related to unlocking the long gears pro mod in certain cars.

Yeah, I'm calling bullshit. When there's literally no difference between running one card (at 100%) or three cards (at 33% each), then they're talking out of their arses. Unless they were working with ATI on a CFX profile (although it sounds like they think they fixed it in-game) then they've done jack shit.
 
Wasn't it Nvidia that said SLI would probably never be working properly in this game because of how it's been coded? Whatever the case, saying there are no performance fixes at this time would have looked far better than falsely claiming there are (I have a GTX 690 and I'm not seeing any difference in the framerate since this update).

I think it's safe to say the game should run at 60fps on a single, modern GPU though. It's ridiculous that they haven't been able to sort that out after, what is it now, 7 weeks since release?

I can recall reading a post on Guru3D by an Nvidia employee about Most Wanted running poorly due to CPU limitations although this has been the subject of a lot of debate.

Given that Criterion made it known in an interview with games.on.net that a 'modern quad core PC with an AMD Radeon 6000 series or NVIDIA Geforce 500 series can run the game with highest details settings' anyone using a videocard from the last 2-3 years should be able to run Most Wanted without issue. As c0Zm1c has frame rate issues with a GTX 690 and I'm reading people who have GTX 680 & 670 sli configs with frame rate issues plus ATI users encountering the same issue, it's fair to state it is Criterion who've screwed up. Does EA even care enough to fix the problem given console players are their main source of revenue?

I'm not sure, but I can guarantee you I've never seen any of my CPU cores flatline while I've definitely seen all three (ATI) GPU cores flatline almost consistently... at 33% a pop. This whole thing reminds me of Saint's Row 3 all over again :/

BTW the 690 is dual-core, yes? I'm not up with my nVidia models.

Yeah, he might've said it but that may have been an attempt to deflect it off being a GPU problem (regardless of whether it's a coding thing or a card capability thing, it probably still reflects more poorly on the GPU manufacturer than the developer).

Definitely Criterion who screwed up. Just look at how poorly optimised HP was, and that was with DX9. It still astounds me how well Burnout Paradise runs, though... their first PC release and it runs like a dream.

With the statement Criterion made about how well it will run on PC, I'm thinking that's another horseshit PR statement like the one from Volition about how they were coding it themselves for the platform so it was going to run amazingly on all systems. That, plus the AMD Gaming Evolved badge didn't help them one iota... the game still runs like shit on any system with an ATI card and to the best of my knowledge, actually runs *better* with an nVidia card (though I believe nVidia multi-GPU users still have horrible performance issues).

If anything drives me away from PC gaming for good, it's this kind of crap from developers.

I would've been much happier if I hadn't bought this on sale :/

The GTX 690 is the most powerful videocard Nvidia has released thus far. The 690 should run any game at well above 60fps @1080P; even unoptimsed PC graphical darlings such as Metro 2033 and Crysis run above 60fps will all the eye candy on yet Most Wanted fails to do so.

This cannot be a GPU problem when Nvidia and ATI users all have the same issue. I partly solved the issue by limiting the frame rate to 30fps although I still encounter a very occasional dip in frame rates. I now pretend Most Wanted is PGR by a lesser studio 8)

Fair point although the closed nature of console gaming and shift to 'season passes' sees my interest in the next consoles waning.

That's how I've managed to play the game. There's slight hitching now and again, but it hasn't really been a problem. Most of the time I don't really notice it.

I really enjoyed my time working through the singleplayer, and I'm enjoying getting back into it with the DLC, but on principle I'm still really frustrated with EA/Criterion (whichever is to blame). I upgraded my system back in August and I feel if I hadn't then I would have been struggling to enjoy the game at all, even though my old system was above the minimum system requirements.
 
I played the PS3 demo for a short moment and I was like "LOL". How anyone can play that is beyond that. But people are just very noncritical I guess. The framerate is such a stuttering mess. If the PC version is only close to that, I'll never touch it. Never. And limiting a RACING game to 30 which looks like it should run with 120 on my machine. Sorry, but no. Not worth my money and, more important, not worth my lifetime.
 
The PS3 version runs mostly fine for me. It looks like it's locked at 30fps but it's a solid framerate with none of the hitching I see in the PC version. It does sometimes struggle at loading in data when I'm racing around at high speed though, something I haven't seen once in the PC version. I bet that's even more of a problem with the cars from the ultimate speed pack. My car also fell through the ground into the void on the PS3 version on one occasion, which was pretty funny. :D

Exactly the same for me. I do wish Nvidia and/or Criterion would fix the issue as I'd love to play MW at close to 60fps as my GTX 570 would allow.

Christ almighty. Yikes. I hope EA/Criterion get absolutely reamed for this.

I have a 5850 and a 5970 so my config was practically the most powerful ATI-wise... as of a few years ago, ahaha ;)
 
Origin downloaded a 14MB patch which updated Most Wanted to version 1.3.0.0. According to the InstallLog text file the NFS13.exe, D3D11Install.exe and GDFBinary_en_US.dll were all modified. The Read Me file was changed too for those who care about reading the file 8-) Can't say that I've seen an improvement in frame rates and there isn't a new patch note on the EA Most Wanted forum.

Edit: looks like online matches and Autolog are currently offline; not sure if its due to the new patch.
 
Pre-patch the game ran ~51 to 60 fps for me @ 1920X1080. Now it runs at a solid 60. I've also updated my video card drivers since the last time I played so I couldn't say for definite that the patch is the cause for the performance upgrade.

The game used to be really jarring for me on the PC when going around corners during frame rate hiccups, but today its a constant 60FPS. I hope it's not because the servers are down, I'll try again when the servers are up.

GFX: GTX680 4GB / CPU i7-950 @ 3.67Ghz

So that's one that came *after* the 500mb update to include DLC? Just need to clarify.

Criterion may yet redeem themselves... but I doubt it.

Yep, a seperate 14MB download came from Origin this afternoon (Aussie time).
 
Crap. I'll give it a go, but I'm not expecting anything at all. The fact that a top of the line, dual-GPU card can't smash the fuck out of this game says a lot.
 
This game is total garbage. There is no sense of structure.

Whats worst is that its made by Criterion, the people who made Burnout Paradise on consoles.

The IQ is worst that Burnout, too many jaggies and performance issues. I was stupid enough to buy it on PS3 and Vita.

Good thing I bought Forza Horizon on 360.
 
I have played for around an hour since downloading the patch today.

I haven't seen any where near the number of frame rate drops but then I might not have been driving to the places that gave the problem to begin with.

The game was unplayable in some areas with tearing and frame rate drops; today it was smooth for the most part. I will have a go at turning a few graphics options back up to see what happens.

My system: GTX 670 / 8GB RAM / I5 3570K @3.4GHz; it didn't feel good to turn down the settings :(

Thats good to hear. Would like to hear your new settings as i have a similar setup as you and want to pretty this game up some more
 
My in-game graphic settings are:

1920x1080
Hi-res Textures: On
Motion Blur: High
Shadow: Medium
Headlight shadows: Off
Ambient Occlusion: Medium
Reflections: High
VFX: High
Geometry: Low
Light Scattering: On

I will have a play around with upping a few of these. I couldn't see much difference with the geometry settings when they were set to high. Can anyone else see much difference?

The industrial / warehouse area of the map was still choppy but I couldn't see any more issues whilst in other parts of the map.
 
According to the EA representative over on their forums, improvements were made to the performance. Guess this is the best we can expect.

I just dropped this on them as a reply to that post from the EA rep in that thread:

There have been absolutely no improvements made in how SLI or Crossfire works. This occurred on my PC both before and after the patch:

Another user on another forum (well-regarded as somewhat of a haven for people focused on PC-based graphical performance) confirmed exactly the same was happening for them with nVidia/SLI:

That's an nVidia GTX 690. Currently the going rate for that here in Australia is ~$1300AUD and it's still not enough to run this game at 60fps with the best settings.

I think someone has some work to do.

Ha, I've been quoted 8)

I do hope Most Wanted receives the same level of post release support as Hot Pursuit albeit at a much faster patch release rate. I really like MW however it appears to be an average port of a console game. There should be no reason why anyone with a new-ish videocard is suffering from such poor frame rates.
 
They won't do anything else about it until after the new year, anyway. It's been 6 weeks, and the first DLC has come and gone, so I don't expect to run this game any better until I upgrade my hardware in a year or two. I'm not posting on their forums, I don't want to be banned from my games.

The community manager is inviting people's feedback. I don't see them banning anyone for their input on the issue provided it's presented in a civilised manner. If they did then the shit would really hit the fan.
 
Yea... maybe I jumped the gun. I played again today and frame rate would drop to 45FPS. Come on Criterion... I know you have some good programmers there!

I know, but I'm liable to get myself banned, and they still tie forum bans to your games, so I'm not gonna bother.
 
I do think performance has been improved but having played the game a bit more last night, it still suffers from problems.

I was able to increase some graphical settings and didn't see any real hit in terms of performance.

The industrial chimney area is a killer and going through certain tunnels crippled the frame rate to around 15fps.

I think it is more stable but there are issues that I don't think someone with a decent spec should be suffering from when I can run games like Crysis 2 at ultra with very few issues.

I think that one is the performance killer. That and AO.
 
WTF, weren't they collecting information from PC gamers to fix the performance, because they "don't know" what's affecting the framerate? So nothing's fixed?
 
Just another update: There is no update. No posts or requests for more information in that thread that was linked earlier since the update came out. I've made another post in said thread and hit them up on Twitter to see what they say, but without any word on what's happening in just under two weeks, I'm not even feeling confident they'll release another patch that improves performance (but I'm sure there'll be more software updates to accommodate future DLC).

I was more bumping this thread in case someone comes across this title in a sale and thinks it might be a decent, hassle-free experience. It ain't.
 
i wouldnt expect any updates for any games for at least another week or two because of christmas and new year.

im waiting on ubi to fix the fps drops in AC3. it sucks how the majority of these big games have issues for several months after release, yet i always get suckered into buying day one
 
No big changes here, still getting 40-50 fps with everything turned up. I think the framerate is more consistent with the settings posted in this thread after the update but its been so long since I've played I might be misremembering.
 
The few respondents in the frame rate issues thread have stated their game are now running at a consistent 60fps. I had a very brief post-patch play; with all the graphical settings on high except for AO which was set at the default medium level, it appeared MW was running at 60fps with no slowdowns.
 
Either of you running multiple GPUs? I'm curious to see if it still has that 100%-across-all-cores thing still happening.
 
Bumping because I changed that option to 0 and it's been way more stable, dropping into the mid-50s just once with Geometry Detail on High and everything else maxed. I turned it to Medium and it's been at 60 ever since.

A)How's the drifting?
B)Is there FFB support?
C)Is there manual transmission/H-shifter support?
D)Support for multiple USB controllers?
