This anime seems very similar to another anime series I've seen by the name of .hack

SAO is far more entertaining and less emo than most of the .Hack series. Dennou Coil and Serial Experiment Lain are some of the best handling of VR in anime that I've enjoyed. That said, I probably enjoyed SAO more than .Hack overall only because of the combat and the main characters. I think, while some of the concepts are a bit dated, the .Hack series does respect the rules of its world more.

(GitS series feels like more of a crime drama to me)

Ending was pretty enjoyable. It tied everything up as far as I can remember. The series itself had its ups and downs but something about it gripped me enough to keep me coming back for more. After watching .hack//Sign and some of the other .hack shows I've developed a taste for shows dealing with virtual reality and how it effects people and their interactions with others online.

I would ask about how he gets into the next game but I'm not sure if I want to be spoiled considering I probably won't read the novels and will more likely wait for another season if one is in production.

This is my first time to ever cry on SAO/ALO from whole anime I have seen so far.

I just felt very happy to see Kirito finally reach Asuna after 12 episodes.

I want to say...

Someone need to invent NerveGear. I want to be in there dammit.

Oh! I don't want to play in Kayaba's SAO for his madness intention.

Overall...

I love it. It does mean that I am going to get Blu-Ray DVD if SAO/ALO are ever released in North America! :)

Hopefully, we will have the next season... if there are any!

Final episode

So let me get this straight.
The guy that killed 4000 people gets to live in the best place ever (the internet) for eternity while the guy that only prevented 300 people from waking up gets to spend the rest of his life in jail?
That's some pretty lopsided punishment there.

Really, I think I actually felt pretty bad for Sugou by the end. I mean yeah he's a doucher, but
Kirito wasn't any better in the final battle, turning the pain all the way up and then ripping the guy apart so he was guaranteed to have some really shitty lasting effects in the real world. Completely unnecessary.

It's also sad how much better Sugu is than Asuna.

How do you know Sugu is better than Asuna? I am just curious.

So are people gonna check out Accel World now, I hope?
I checked it out while I was on Episode 20 of SAO. I couldn't enjoy Accel World because my mind was still on SAO. Accel World have potential to be very "new" entertainment anime to watch but SAO tops any anime I have seen so far.

I did after SOA. 3/4 through. Not as good as SOA, but still pretty nice. I just really really fucking really hate the design of the main hero. Wtf were they thinking? I guess in novels it's less of a problem, because you don't see him all the time, but in anime...ughh..

He's sistercon? :D

Seriously, the only thing Sugu has over Asune as bigger "assets"

I would love to hear what other shows you have watched before.

They were being honest about what they think of their audience.

Which would make sense if he was just short and fat, but he has to be 80 centimeters tall max.
Whatever the case at least it's more original than just another slender pretty boy for whom all the girls fall in love with anyway. I also like the fact that he starts sucking at the new videogame hardcore and is not just Batman with wings.

Now that's it's all over, I can definitively say that the show is about 60/40 Garbage/goodness. The merciless mockery/deconstruction of the MMO genre and the people who play them was enjoyable, but the author seriously screwed up when he decided to focus on the crappy melodrama instead of chronicling the survivors adapting to the real world. The idea of the survivors going back to the game that nearly killed them to play it without fear of death is nice to end on, since it's adequately open to interpretation as to the mental state of those players. But the road to get there was paved with some of the worst garbage I have ever sat through.

Ultimately, I come away thinking that the things I liked about the show were never the true focus and almost accidental.

Accel World is fine proof then that less cliche doesn't always mean better

Ok, good I guess.

I thought that Sugo had died so his appearance was a real surprise. And I the reunion of the characters. It was generally a good ending. I want Gun Gale Online now. :(

that was a good ending, season 2 now.

I started to enjoy it for all the wrong reasons and unintended aspects, it's was a really bad series but oddly fun to watch. It's like fast food, you know it's bad for you but still want to eat :P

It's this year Infinity Stratos :)

He dared to touch the MC waifu!
fruthermore his plan was to brainwashed her and to abuse in all way possible...
i think sugou got what he deserved .

There is more MMO deconstruction in the books because the author do talk about each world game mecanics in detail .... many details lost in translation

I think it's more telling that people rank virtual rape shenanigans as more heinous than effectively kidnapping 300 people who already suffered through SAO to use as his personal Guinea Pigs.

The protagonist in Accel world is a fat, short, and whiny bitch. As much as I may of been able to enjoy the concept of the show, his constant retardedness ruined it for me. Honestly don't understand how people can endorse a show like that.

It was likely in response to SAO having a "perfect" protagonist. Besides, no where else will you find a fat harem protagonist, so that's damn progressive.

Taku and Silver Crow, come on Silver Crow is really epic and all its moves (and the va, is awesome) really make it good.

Am I the only one who expected that final battle before reaching Asuna in the real world?

Talking of the final battle

Why did Mr Pervy manage to slice Kirito as quick as a flash and with little difficulty and yet stabbing him from two cm away apparently was hard because of his eye? Does Kirito's Gary Stuness know no bounds?

This actually makes sense. A slash like the first one doesn't require depth perception, which is what's gone with one eye dead

Just finished this series with my wife, and it was a decent series, if slightly disappointing based on execution of the concept.

Reading around on the internet to see what other people thought afterwards, I discovered the existence of Chapter 16.5 of the original Light Novel.

What. The. Fuck.

Because cousin love is some of the purest love you'll find. It's a relationship that begins before the individuals are even able to comprehend the very concept of love. It transcends that drab and meaningless venture of concocting so called "intimacy" between two individuals who are complete strangers.

Now that that is over, the big question: is it worth my time? I don't need my world rocked. I just want a good wrap-up-in-a-blanket-in-cold weather, drink-hot-chocolate-and sit-around anime.

So I'm to believe that
he could judge where Kirito was standing, go around him undetected and back into hiding without bumping into anything but apparently miss a giant target right in front of him. I just closed one eye and found it a hard challenge to miss a Kiritio sized target. It was hard to miss even with both eyes closed.Especially if you go mad with the knife. It was balls logic.

Watch Space Brothers instead.

Its worthwhile and one of the better anime of the year, it does have faults present but probably one anime to watch. Probably much better to watch in a marathon session.

What. The. Fuck.

Is 16.5 the sex chapter?

Two years worth of semen made a glopping sound as it flowed endlessly into Asuna~

If it makes you feel better, the writer guy wrote similar chapters for most of the other girls too, including the loli.

That's what makes it better. No amount of gaming will save him from of obesity related heart disease or stop him from being the laughingstock during pe.

I guess the question is why? There's nothing really questionable in any of the other parts I skimmed, so why is there random stand-alone full on porn chapters?

SAO started out as a webrelease way back in '02 or so, and these are either the chapters they excised out of the print release later (16.5) on or stories he wrote for doujins. As for the why, smutty self-insert erotica I guess.

I gotta assume the latter rather than the former because 16.5 is totally out of place. Or is it common to just have random highly graphic sex chapters in Japanese books =O

From what I gathered from another forum, some say he wrote 16.5 and some say he didn't, so hard to really know. He also apparently wrote parts of the Llisbeth one, but other girls were fan fic works not done by him that he had under a separate section of the website.
