NeoGAF Fantasy Football Paypal League(s) - Season 4

Yeah, I suppose it's premature of me to write Frankman off here. I'm not really buying into his Bironas love the past couple weeks. We'll see how things play out tonight. I probably got ahead of myself as I'd love to face him for a 5th time this season in the Week 16 consolation game. Either that or I'm buying into Frankman's mantra of his teams finding a way to choke at the last minute.
In the immortal words of Stephen Jackson, fuk yo team clown.

Yeah, I would really like to move to GAF only next year. If the ones from this year don't have accounts. Have them sign up now, maybe by next year they might be able to participate in this thread. It makes it much easier to communicate.

IIRC he signed up but never got approved and just gave up lol. He posts in the league chats though and if he wins, we will all get a manifesto of absurd shit-talking...

Told ya guys about Bironas.

Next week = FRANKMAN vs. UBERTAG - Round 5

(How about that? I was right to start Hawkins over Britt after all.)

Well, I won the week in my other league by the second lowest point total of the year overall: .48 points. Earlier in week 3, I lost by .2 point. :(

NO QUITTERS 4 'PLAY EVERY OPPONENT' / NON-SCHEDULE BIAS RECORDS FOR EVERY PLAYOFF TEAM

Long Island Broskis (143-66) | AVERAGE WEEKLY POINT TOTAL = 97.4 POINTS
Hookers And Blow (143-66)
Sinistar (133-76)
New Orleans Phoenix (125-84)
Bail Kings (105-104)
I'm Doin It Like Eli (103-106)
FPL-Defending Champs (95-114)
Dinner Out (86-123) | AVERAGE WEEKLY POINT TOTAL = 81.9 POINTS

It's funny how both teams still alive are an illustration of contrasts.

Dinner Out has fielded a team that has been wholly noncompetitive against a lot of other teams in the league on a week in-week out basis yet the schedule gods have found a way to pit him against one of the few lesser teams each week and as a result both my team and his are winners of 4 straight and boast 11-4 records as we head into this weekend's league championship game for all the marbles.

On paper, he's the best possible matchup I could have this week despite being the #2 seed. In reality, I consider his team to be incredibly dangerous, one that has beaten me already this season on one of the TWO weeks (out of 15) he's put up a higher point total than me, boasts the league's all-time best winning percentage and a 3-0 lifetime record against me including once last year with money on the line.

It doesn't matter how we got here, we're both equally capable of taking home the No Quitters title.
He just needs to ensure this week goes the same way as Weeks 5 and 9 when his team outscored the Broskis. And not like the other 13 weeks this season when they didn't.

HERE. WE. GO.
This one is for all the marbles.

QB: Colin Kaepernick @ Sea
WR: Miles Austin vs NO
WR: T.Y. Hilton @ KC
RB: Ray Rice vs NYG
RB: Knowshon Moreno vs Cle
TE: Jimmy Graham @ Dal
FLEX: Victor Cruz @ Bal
FLEX: Mike Wallace @ Cin
K: David Akers @ Sea
DEF: Denver vs CLE

Bench
Justin Blackmon vs NE
Stevan Ridley @Jac
Carson Palmer @Car
Chris Givens @TB
San Fran @Sea

This is a PPR league, so I'm thinking Blackmon might be able to produce after NE gets ahead 300 - 0.
Also Ridley is iffy, he fumbled last week so he might be in BB's doghouse. But he would definitely be able to put up some numbers.

I think I would start Blackmon over Hilton this week. Luck plays worse on the road and won't need to pass his standard 35-40 times/game against the Chiefs.

freeman, kaepernick, or eli

right now i'm going with kaepernick, but hes playing seattle. eli and freeman both scare me.

edit: also need a WR cuz malcolm floyd is out. santana moss maybe? already have moss and givens on the bench. no idea if there is anyone worth picking up this late or if i should just play moss.

here's my yahoo matchup, my opponents team is stacked lol:

Roll with Kaepernick. The other guys can't be trusted.

I doubt Santana Moss is the best available option on your waiver wire.
Would prefer someone else like Nate Washington, TY Hilton, Chris Givens, Brandon Gibson... even Dexter McCluster.

I neglected to mention this earlier because I was replying on my phone but I would roll Ridley BACK into your lineup this week.

The matchup against the Jaguars is too good to resist and if there's ONE thing you can bank on with New England running backs, it's that the same guy will never go off on consecutive weeks. Last week being a Woodhead week is a GOOD thing for Ridley's chances here.

(I'd probably start Woodhead, too. In fact, start ALL your Patriots. Except Ryan Mallett. My FAVORITE benchwarmer.)

Not really sure what to do with my 1 flex spot:

Anquan Boldin vs NYG (might be #1 if Torrey out but can he get open?)
Torrey Smith vs NYG (concussion?)
Montell Owens vs NE (starting but what if NE goes up big )
Justin Blackmon vs NE
Beanie Wells vs CHI (who knows what to expect from ARI offense and CHI defense)

Any suggestions? Feels like a crap shoot.

If Torrey doesn't pass his concussion tests, start Boldin.
Otherwise, flip a coin between Smith and Blackmon.
I'd probably lean towards the latter as there will be garbage time opportunity for the Jags passing game.
That may not happen in the other game if BAL-NYG is a low-scoring defensive battle with Flacco checking down to Pitta a dozen times.

The Broskis offense has seemingly stalled out and Dinner Out is gaining momentum as the NQ4 Championship game enters its final stages. What was once a 50-point lead has been reduced to a mere 14.88 points as both Forte and Torrey Smith have cashed in early for Dinner Out.

With Lynch on deck, Team Dinner Out is poised to shatter their season-high point total of 105.44 points and only Knowshon Moreno can hold off the wolves for the Long Island Broskis...

LONG ISLAND BROSKIS 113.82
DINNER OUT 98.94

I may need to topple my season-high point total of 123.72 to pull off this final win. Would have done that already had I not benched the torrid hot Bengals D.

Highest-ever point total for a losing team in NQ4 and in No Quitters Playoff history = 115.54 POINTS (scored last week by Hookers And Blow vs. the Long Island Broskis)

Highest-ever point total for a losing team in ANY No Quitters fantasy matchup = 117.4 POINTS (scored last season by Ember Island Players - also against the Long Island Broskis)

My current point total = 119.32 POINTS

I'm either going to win this thing or make some history. You're simply not supposed to put up a point total like this in a 16-team league and lose.
Especially against what Dinner Out has openly acknowledged is the "most suspect team in No Quitters league history".

Dinner Out has now passed his season-high point total.

LONG ISLAND BROSKIS 119.32
DINNER OUT 106.64

In the econ league highest point total of the year in the championship game. Can't ask for more than that. My first 3 picks of the draft (calvin johnson, adrian peterson, and aj green) were rock solid consistent all year and Romo was a steal in the 7th. Quite a few close wins and losses, thanks for putting the league together.

There's no way a defense can can get -30 right?

Dinner Out is pretty cocky right now

"I'm going to win" via text
Just what we need. Another GAF league winner who communicates via text message through the Commissioner.
On another note... I hate Jacob Hester.

Congrats on winning the Economy League, greepoman. At least YOU actively post here.
If Dinner Out pulls this out, I say we make you honorary No Quitters champion as well - even if you won't get any of the money.

No Quitters matchup update - MATT FORTE HAS EXITED THE BEARS GAME WITH AN ANKLE INJURY

With a final total of 119.32 points, the Broskis will either prevail or post a higher losing total than any other team has put up across 445 previous No Quitters fantasy matchups.

Only one man stands in their way...

Couple blowouts in Econ league in the money games. Knight of Mars put up a good fight but lost to the most points in the league this year...bad timing.

My season ended in the 9th place game with me eeking out a win over Gould by 1.28 points. Nice to win one of these close ones after losing two in a row by 2 points combined earlier this year.

I saw it in one of my recaps that I was unbeaten when my team exceeds its projection and I did again this week by a few points. On the flip side I lost every game my team didn't meet the projection. It was a fun time. If I had a better QB I would have done some damage.

Think I set the record in receiving yards which was nice. Thomas/Colston/Marshall carried my team the entire year. And I won the league pick em even skipping the past 2 weeks. =)

I'd like to get in on NQ5 if possible next year.

That's right, folks.
I am now officially the BIGGEST LOSER IN NO QUITTERS HISTORY!

Congratulations to Team Dinner Out... TWO-TIME NO QUITTERS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

Dinner Out = The No Quitters Equivalent of John Cena

We need to put a bounty out on his head next season.
I will volunteer fantasy advice to every team he faces in this very thread.
No more free rides to the playoffs.

Destroyed this guy. So glad I stuck with Chicago D. I knew they would come back against this shitty Arizona team lol. Too bad I didn't go with Santana Moss and Matt Ryan though, would've broke 200.

EDIT: Is there anyway I could get in one of these leagues next year?

EDIT2: omg,

Had my best week in my FF history this week in the championship game, 156 points god damn! Flacco/Rice/Bush/Steve Smith/Dez went fuckin crazy for me.

Final NQ4 Results

1. Dinner Out - $440
2. Long Island Broskis - $300
3. Hookers And Blow - $200
4. New Orleans Phoenix - $100

It was a good season and I hope everyone had fun. Lets keep this thread going with ideas for next season...

Before I post my big list of ideas, the one definite I'd like for next year is this: Relegation.

In a 16-team league, we still had people mailing it out in the Consolation games. I say this: The people who finish in the bottom two are out of the NQ League the following year Not only does it keep the league randomly fresh, it also makes sure people do everything to stay out of the 15th-16th spot.

I wouldn't support that. I was a bottom feeder this year and with your proposal, the commish would be gone next year lol

I like having a pool of reliable players. Why mess with that?

Also, you were one of the fiercest opponents of spreading the money beyond top 4 and now you complain about folks mailing it in during consolation? I don't get it...

The best way to keep folks playing longer is giving an INCENTIVE. I screamed this from the rooftops before the season started but no one listened..

My ideas for next season:

- Broaden prize pool eligibility to make consolation games actually mean something
- Escrow service. We'll be using one next year if Yahoo doesn't allow private money leagues by then.
- Continuous waivers (if we can use that with our current system of losing teams having priority)

Not really as broad as you think, going season by season from NQ1.

This IS an incentive. You absolutely cannot give money outside the Top 4 in a 16-teamer, why not reward people for playing the game then?

Relegation is proven to be extremely effective in soccer and I've heard no real complaints when I asked around a few forums. With people doing like 4-5 leagues at a time no one gets too broken up for missing one. And yes Cloudy, I too would've been against the 8-Ball. I was 14th last year and had to win 3 of my last 4.

Dinner Out's 131.64 points scored this week was second only to the 132.32 points scored against Kememsi/FPL by Sinistar in Week 9 this season.

The 119.32 points put up the Long Island Broskis in this week's championship game was the highest point total ever to be put up by a losing opponent in No Quitters league history. 98 fantasy matchups were played in NQ1 and 116 fantasy matchups have been played each year in NQ2-NQ4. So yeah, like I said earlier, that spans 446 contests.

Dinner Out sports two 1st place finishes and a 3rd place finish out of his 4 seasons in the league. He boasts 42 matchup wins; no one else has even amassed 30. Despite finishing 12-4 on the season, he was outscored by most of the league every week and will wind up finishing with a sub .500 record in "had they faced every other opponent" scenarios which is a first for a No Quitters champion.

No team has ever saved their highest-scoring week of the season until the Championship game... although Crazymoogle came close back in NQ2. Not only did Dinner Out save his best for last but he DEMOLISHED his previous season high - which was a mere 105.44 points back in Week 9. He outpaced that margin by more than 25 points.

This was NOT the closest margin for a league championship matchup. That honor still belongs to NQ1's finale between Dinner Out and a still very bitter Azwethinkweiz (manager of Hookers And Blow). The winner of that contest was also Dinner Out.

The absence of playoff reseeding in NQ2 would not have changed that league's eventual winner. Bail Kings outscored everyone in both Weeks 15 & 16. Crazymoogle would have beat Ember Island Players in the semifinals instead of the title game. Ember Island and Alex Anderson would have swapped 2nd and 3rd place.

This was the first season where Week 15 reseeding impacted the actual league champion. Had the bracket remained locked as in NQ2, Hookers And Blow would have won last week's semifinal matchup and lost this week to the Broskis. Dinner Out would have finished 3rd.

The Long Island Broskis is only the 3rd team in No Quitters history to open the regular season winning 4 consecutive games and to not win the league. The first was NQ1's 2Legit2Bitch! and the second was NQ3's Good As Gould (aka rinker). Each of the previous three league champions had won their first 3 games of the season. Dinner Out split his first 6 games this year prior to putting together an amazing streak of 9 wins out of 10.

The Long Island Broskis scored a total of 1580.28 points across 16 weeks this season - the most in the league and a nice average of 98.77 points/week. This was the second time in No Quitters league history that the owner of the highest scoring team in the league failed to win the league championship game. The first was NQ2's Alex Anderson - although he would have at least made it to the championship game had NQ4's reseeding structure been in place.

Not really as broad as you think, going season by season from NQ1.

This IS an incentive. You absolutely cannot give money outside the Top 4 in a 16-teamer, why not reward people for playing the game then?

A similar idea was brought up on the Fantasy Focus podcast earlier this week. However, instead of eliminating the two bottom feeder teams from league eligibility (to ensure owners remain competitive - note that Dinner Out benefited with a high seed due to playing the two last place teams during Weeks 12 & 13) the suggestion was to have them pay 1.5 times and DOUBLE the league buy-in, respectively. That would be difficult to enforce either for the current season (collecting $$ after the regular season was well underway) or if the penalty was applicable for the following year (as these owners may simply choose to not return to the league - although that would certainly open the doors for new blood of which there always seems to be interest).

At least in that scenario they'd have a choice to pay more instead of simply being told they're out of luck. And it could then easily be enforceable against a Commissioner (having a Commissioner unable to play in their own league would be silly - but a financial penalty rule would still allow them to).

Additionally, the penalty money could then be awarded to the winner of the Consolation bracket instead of taking $$ from the rest of the league and further diluting the importance of winning it all. I'm with Frankman that only the top 4 teams should get paid from the primary prize pool in a 16-team league but I would have no problem with buy-in penalty dollars going to a Consolation bracket winner.

We also need a league trophy that the league champion can then upload pictures of them kissing and mocking the rest of the losers in the league at the end of the season thus inciting more rage. Pictures like this one.

fantasy-football-shiva.jpg

I can try and incite all of the rage in the world against Dinner Out but I know all of you are just going to forget about his incredible win record and will roll over for him next season like you have in years past.

Grats to all the winners. Towards the middle of the season, I started playing more Fanduel than anything, which ended up winning back all my entry money from my season long FF leagues.

Our work league is probably going to move to either ESPN or NFL next year. ESPN has the two week playoff average which is looking better and better. Yahoo really needs to step up there game as there are so many other services catching up with them.

Also don't forget about the escrow service for next Cloudy. There is a few cool things that could be put in there for weekly prizes to get more interest each week.

I wouldn't be opposed to moving from Yahoo. This is the only Yahoo league I participate in. Everyone else is espn or layered on nfl.com.

I like Yahoo cos their interface is so minimalist and clean. ESPN was a clusterfuck last time I played on there. Besides the 2 week finals (Why?), what do they have to offer?

Two-week playoff format is nice because it minimizes the impact of fluky weeks like Week 16 where an underachieving opponent posts the 2nd highest point total of the year and steals a victory. Deserving owners tend to win more often. Granted, it's pretty much impossible to go that route with 3 playoff rounds and fully half of a 16-team league making the playoffs.

I'd like to toss out a recommendation for MyFantasyLeague.com as a Yahoo! alternative. If only because EVERYTHING on that site is customizable. You can take whatever you like from all of the other sites and integrate it into your league. The only downside is that there's a cost to host your league there.
