Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

I'd say it's worth the double post, but can confirm that method works A-OK. Vita is now running 1.81 with TN-C exploit with Mad Blocker Alpha.

The only major hurdle was working out how to copy the (legitimate, I shit you not) Lumines UMD ISOs over. I think I worked it out... you just copy them (with appropriate names) into the Content Manager save folder that has the exploit files in them, yes?
Edit: Never mind, worked it out fully. I think you can only do one at a time, but when you open the exploit then the dump it moves it so when you update next, it doesn't delete it. I think.

I can't believe it. A complete Lumines device!

In all 55 pages of this thread we've had too many people jump in thinking there was actual "Vita Homebrew" when in fact it's just the PSP homebrew on Vita.

Maybe we need to modify the thread title to reflect that and avoid further confusion?

Well, it's *technically* not incorrect ;)

One more question guys: PSN. Am I able to access it on the Vita (outside of the CFW environment/exploit) and not risk getting banned or something (so long as I don't update)?

You can, but I think you have to be on the latest firmware to access it. I bought Growlanser before the latest update while I had the exploit on there. Haven't heard about Sony screwing with anything or banning anybody.

For UMDs it's easiest to just rip the games with a CFW PSP and copy them over with FTP (http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15714). That's the best way to do it since you can do everything in a single step. Copy straight from the UMD to the Vita ISO directory without having to copy it a second/third time.

I'm on 1.81 and have Monster Hunter - is the hack still possible or have I missed the boat?

You can try the link above, but I didn't think it worked anymore. Apparently it does since Shaneus did it.

Makes sense. Well from what I can gather, there's a new exploit coming out fairly soon so I'll jump on that bandwagon as well if I get the timing right. If not, it's not a big hassle anyway.
I don't even know if they'd be able to (or if it's worth their time) looking for CFW if it's only in the PSP sandbox and not the Vita one. It's only if there's an exploit revealed for the latter when they will get worried (but honestly, really isn't a concern for me. There are very few Vita games that appeal to me, just PSP ones and Lumines ES).

Yeah, I hadn't actually thought to look for an FTP app, I was just trying to work it out with the content manager thing. It'll be the next thing I tackle, I think :)

I didn't use Monster Hunter, I just used one of the Mini titles on PSN, bought it on the PS3, didn't install just copied it over but only after copying the save file for it. The MH exploit may or may not work, but I can confirm that the Mad Blocker Alpha one definitely works fine.

The only thing to be aware of is that FTP is pretty slow, and you need to change the setting for whatever program you use to transfer one file at a time, otherwise they will corrupt.

But in the end even though it's slow, it's still faster than ripping to PC->copy to Vita->copy again from exploit directory to ISO directory.

No, but now that 2.02 is out, I assume there's no way to update to 2.01. It'll probably update straight to 2.02.
Crap... so I guess I stick to 1.81 for the time being then? Not that I have a problem with it, but if I can get on PSN proper with my Vita, I'd definitely be happier :)

Is it safe to assume that if there's just been a F/W update out, that they'll announce the title that works on 2.01?

Evenin' all. I'm trying to get the hack to work on my 1.81 Vita. I've only got Monster Hunter and AFAIK that explot was patched in 1.81. I've been trying to follow this tutorial using Open Content Manager Assistant, but when I try to connect my Vita to the PC I can't get past "You must update the system software of the PS Vita system." to get to the transfer screen.

Any ideas or better tutorials?

From memory, there's an XML file you have to download (if it's not included... I can't remember) and modify to match whatever version your Vita is, your region etc.

Most of the information I followed was linked here in this thread not many posts ago at all. It's late so I can't muster up the energy to find them, but they literally are within only the last 10 posts or so here.

Sorry, but I can't find what you're referring to. I should make it clear I haven't already got any exploitable games on my 1.81 Vita and I'm trying to get one across from my PS3/PC to do the hack.

Apparently there's a way to get the hack working if you're on a lower FW, but I've never tried it so can't offer any help on how to do it or confirm if it actually works :/

Another link you might need: How to upgrade your PS Vita to a specific firmware (e.g. 1.81)
First link, then follow the link to "Open CMA". It has stuff like this in there:

Instructions
————————————————
1. If you have any type of open CMA already go to where it is installed and delete all of the contents inside
2. If you do not have any CMA or have deleted the contents from step 1 make sure your file structure is correct
Should be something like this (C:\Program Files\Sony\Content Manager Assistant)
3. Inside the Content Manager Assistant folder extract all of the contents of r4.5 into the folder.
4. Run setdll.exe
5. Run run.bat
6. Thats it enjoy! You can create a shortcut of CMA.exe to your desktop for fast launch.

General Troubleshooting
—————————————————
If you still have issues after r4.5
-Try to reboot the PsVita
-Run steps 5 and 6 in Admin mode
-Replace the psp2-update.xml with a specific one for where you live

If you were getting the error saying you need to update after installing and patching/running OpenCMA, you may have needed to restart your Vita as it seems to have some memory-resident setting that allows it to come up with a "FW update required" even when it's not on wifi/connected via USB. I didn't specifically read *that* anywhere, just tinkered around with it for long enough to figure it out.

How long until we see a Dreamcast emulator on vita. Don't say it isn't powerful enough because my galaxy s 2 has a Dreamcast emulator and it runs crazy taxi at almost 100% full speed. I should also mention that this emulator is in alpha and it was abandoned 2 years ago.

Is it safe to assume that if there's just been a F/W update out, that they'll announce the title that works on 2.01?

I'm sure Wololo or some other site has the firmware 2.01 uploaded somewhere. I mean you can download it to the PC, so I dunno why the update.pbp file wouldn't be there, right?

Anyway, OpenCMA never worked for me. No matter if I used the bat it wanted an update.

Probably never.

There doesn't seem to be much interest in cracking the Vita, so we'll be stuck with PSP kernel exploits for the foreseeable future, and those can't tap into Vita's power.

I wasn't talking about the firmware specifically, but the title for it. The problem is that when they announce the title that has an exploit... it's the game that gets patched, not the firmware. (edit: Wait, I was talking about the firmware, but I'm sure it's not a pain to download it, just like downloading older firmware for iOS and PS3 that's still hosted on their servers)

I'm not sure how OpenCMA can't work, though. All I did was go into aircraft mode, make sure I had the right XML file with the right firmware and region information and copied the OpenCMA patch files to the program directory and ran it. As far as I know it's fairly foolproof, unless there's a step that was missed (that is actually pretty easy, it's hard to find solid step-by-step instructions). You just have to remember that if you get the message at least once to ask for an update, it'll keep doing it until you either power cycle completely (maybe) or restore defaults (definitely). Otherwise it'll ask for an update all the time, even when it's not connected to anything (even via USB).

THAT would be GODLIKE!

According to multiple sites the next exploited game is UNO PSP. Suggest anyone who wants it grab it ASAP as it was posted on Sony forums already.

I'm still on 1.81 running the Urbanix exploit. Should I just update to the latest FW and DL Uno?
Thats up to you, but be advised it could be awhile before the exploit files are released. Also you'd need the latest Open CMA if you back up to PC.

Now I need to hit up Gamestop to find a cheap used copy of BBS. Anyone have any recommendations for other good PSP titles not on PSN? My brother is home for the holidays with his PSP so I should take advantage of it while I can.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2
Crisis Core
Star Ocean First Departure/Second Evolution

The reasons why I'm still holding on to my psp.

Idiots leaking the title. How much does it cost for Uno PSP?
Ya. I only posted it here since it seemed to be legit and I'd have hated for gaffers who wanted it miss out because it got pulled before its 'officially' announced.
As for 100% sure, no. I went ahead and grabbed it and posted just in case.

Oh man, completely forgot about the Star Ocean games. Time to put some gift cards to use, thanks!

Okay, got it on to the Vita. Thanks OpenCMA for not making me update to do it so I still have my MBA exploit just in case.

Still, Uno better be right, don't want to waste $5 on that.

Also, :lol at posting it on the Sony forums. I assume it was someone trying to play "hero" and report it.

Is there anything permanent yet that doesn't rely on buying game x from psn before sony yank it off?

No, nothing yet. Seems all the exploits that are being made so far are easily patchable ones, and ones that only blow open the PSP mode to the system.

Are there any negatives to doing this? If I upgrade after this exploit is told, will I be able to play Vita games still?

No particular issues save for the fact that unless you're willing to give up the exploited features for a new firmware update, you're fine. Perhaps the only negative with this is if there is a game on the horizon you want that's months away, very likely you'll need to update and lose this stuff to play it. Like for example, I doubt Soul Sacrifice will be printed out on game cards on 1.81 firmware so the exploits on that level for homebrew will have to be nixed for it.

So I bought uno psp via the vita - does it need to be installed through the ps3? or is having it purchased and installed like normal going to be ok?

Also, uno in japan is only 100 yen ^^ - not 5.00...

Can I have a link? don't want to waste 5$ on this bullshit and it ends up being false.

is there a official website where the hackers announce it?

From my understanding it is in 'ninja release mode' where its announcement is sent to members of wololo's forums, and it'll be publically announced shortly before the exploit files are released on wololo's site. Sorry I can't offer 100% assurance since I'm only going by what I've seen posted around. Chances are it'll get pulled from PSN before its announced publically.
