I like the width of the gamepad. It feels more ergonomic than the standard controllers.
Standard controllers have your hands in a somewhat praying position, close together. The Wii U gamepad has you in a more open book, small tablet reading, bicep curl machine. The small grips that sit on your palm should be bigger though.
Would have been nice redo the face buttons. Y/X just slightly right of the left analog stick and B/A just left of the right analog stick. Or move the start and select buttons there.
I do dislike the 360 trigger style buttons. I have to lift up my fingers off of the triggers to use the bumpers. Even worse than a 360 controller. I'd prefer moving the bumpers to the bottom where your middle fingers would rest when you hold the pad. Almost like the vita back touch pad. So maybe the triggers are the problem but the bumper placement.
Gamepad build quality is quite crappy. clicking noises when shaken, speaker will sometimes make a crackling/poping noise when at full volume.
Like that they used a 3.5 audio jack. Makes me think that MS made the 360 controller jack a 2.5 one so you would be inclined to use their own headsets over your own headsets laying around. Most people won't go out and get an adapter, they will just buy an official headset. I like that I can use my apple headphones or plug in my astro a40's directly without the mixamp. But I'm still having a hard time finding the best way for me. I like to mute myself, can't do that with my own headsets. I can with my third party xbox 360 headset but its a 2.5 jack, I can with my a40's but its cans so I can't hear the tv clearly, I can with my logitech f450's but they are 2.5 jack as well to cater to 360, I can with my sony bluetooth headset but the wiiu doesn't support bluetooth.
The proper solution is to just kill open mic, or make it an in game option. I'd much rather have push to talk for online games. Just a personal beef.
Using the gamepad screen is a dream though. At first it was just zombiu, but even with call of duty, using the screen during gameplay and to switch classes is smooth. In another thread the screen is just being called a gimmick but it does not feel that way, feels more like natural progression.
The TVii stuff hasn't dazzled me yet. I have a PS3 with media usage, a nexus 7, iphone, apple tv with airplay, pc runnning not only hdmi to tv but dlna apps like PlayOn, xbmc etc.. I don't actually use cable tv for anything other than news in the morning before work. I do watch TWD and Community but that's about it. Its a great feature just sort of useless at the moment for me. I'd like to use it in the future more but fragmentation in media is iffy, smartglass, appletv, tablets using websites instead of apps to accompany tv shows, etc.. I'd like to see more standards not more competition.
Just like the vita I'd like to see more apps. I use apps like news360 and google currents instead of going to webpages.
Miiverse. Great, I just wish I could customize it to only show my favorites. I don't care about the mario, zelda, etc games or its miiverse, only show me what I want to see or subscribe to.
Home button. Doesn't work in COD unless your in campaign mode, force this to work at all times. Microsoft makes demands for features, Sony and Nintendo should too.
Games. I'm not a core nintendo gamer. Bought COD because there are no other online games for me. ZombiU is freaking awesome. Needs more original adult/mature/non-core nintendo games to keep me interested.
