You make the loading way worse than it actually is. The console hard locking is more of a concern than the load times.

The loading is an issue for those of us that mainly gamed on the GCN and Wii, which had little to no load times. It's a pretty stark contrast. Even the Wii OS ran faster than this. I expected it to at least match my iPad in terms of speed going between apps.

The dissapointing Gamepad range and slow ass OS navigation times (plus terrible load times on games like Zombie U) just hugely dampened the overall experience for me. Plus i was really hoping for some superior multiplats or SOMETHING out of the gate to show off the power of the hardware. Just to give me confidence that the Wii U will eventually provide superior aesthetic experiences to last gen platforms. I'd of even settled for the e3 2011 Japanese garden/bird tech demo preloaded on the system. I haven't really gotten into the Miiverse but look forward to experimenting more in the new year. Still not exactly sure why everyone is so enamored from first impressions. I'm also super bummed about the Gamepad not working with appropriate bc Wii/Wiiware titles

On the other hand playing NSMB U on the Gamepad on my couch while my wife watches TV is a revelation! The potential for Gamepad integration and Gamepad use overall is amazing. I pray for a signal booster or something so I can get it working in my bedroom.

Anyway overall I'm still 100% confident i'll get my money's worth over the system's lifespan. I have with every Nintendo console I've ever owned.

Had a Wii U since launch and never really touched the Coin Battle mode on NSMBU but I started a few days ago and had a blast with a couple of my cousins, one of which isn't the best player during the regular mode but can really hold his own when it comes to going crazy and collecting coins. Tons of fun.

And I'm loving Netflix on the GamePad, since I don't own a tablet or anything. I really wish there was DVD playback though...No real reason for it not to be there as far as I'm concerned and I would've loved DVD playback on my GamePad too.

Ok, I finished the first update (30/45 minutes), put the Sonic and Rayman's demo to download (is there other games demos worth a try?) and put the update of Nintendo land of Nintendo land to start downloading.

After that I start to play Nintendo land and have some troubles with the F-zero mini game (the control lost calibration). But that trouble stop to occurs after I install the update.

To finish, I tried to test the gamepad range in my house. To my surprise it works in all the places, except the closer room where the Wii U is. I don't understand why its not working in this room, maybe it's because it have a computer there.

Except this small problem, I don't have any other complain. Even the video chat works well in this sistem. Now I will try my old 256 mb HD to see if it works on Wii U.

I've owned those platforms as well and gamed on them a lot. I don't really see how it's a big deal waiting 10-15 seconds to load between apps. Sure, it's not 'fast' (I guess) but it's not that long either.

I'm much more irritated by the hardlocking since that's a larger problem for the platform than 15 seconds of loading between apps.

I love this little system. I was reading the other dissatisfaction thread and I don't understand. Anyway, I've had a blast with the games so far and miiverse is great. The wii U OS needs to be sped up though because it can be very sluggish, but hopefully the next couple of updates fix that up. I also never got the complaints about the launch lineup. I recall the wii U lineup to probably be one of the best launches in recent memory (regardless if a lot of the other games were out, as far as launches are concerned I can't think of any other system that had so much content). Oh well. I'm excited for what's to come in 2013!

You'd think that more of the people in this thread who are enjoying their new dedicated console with fully supported and instantly accessible out of the box off-TV play would instead be jumping at the chance to spend an extra $250-300 dollars on a pricey, poorly supported standalone portable that's been all but callously abandoned and sent off to die by its own company on top of a $250 + six year old home console.

Once I found out that I could use the Gamepad as a TV remote as well as a tablet, I was very pleased. It's amazing, being able to make this post on GAF and flip between Monday Night Raw and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, all without changing devices. I don't have much faith that Wii U games will use this technology well, but HOT DAMN, this is awesome as hell.

In terms of actual games, I've mostly been playing old Wii games I never got a chance to play, due to my Wii having a very nasty habit of scratching my discs. Recently bought Pikmin 2, A Boy and His Blob and Super Mario Galaxy. Looking to pick up Trauma Team, Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story sometime in the near future.

tl;dr: I like the console itself, but there aren't any actual Wii U games I'll be playing anytime soon.

I kinda like my U so far. I feel as if there is so much untapped potential, I hope Nintendo develops on it's strengths before it dies. I dream of streaming my music or watching something on Netflix while playing an Emulated VC game on the pad or web surfing. If my Galaxy S3 is capable of it, I feel as though the WiiU should be more than capable. That would make it the ultimate media console

Also, this is probably the first console I ever had that was missing a good Tennis game at or near launch. That's the perfect kind of pick-up-and-play game I was expecting to play on the Wii U. Can't wait for it to be graced with a Virtua Tennis.

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and I love it. I heard complaints about the OS being slow and people are very much correct, but surprisingly it's faster than my 360 for the most part (granted my 360 is slowly going on the fritz)

Miiverse is great, as everyone knows, the browser is fun and easy to use and I like the general look and design of the UI, though as I said, it could be faster.

As for games, I have NintendoLand and Zombi U. I'm liking Nintendo Land a lot more than I expected and Zombi U is without a doubt my GOTY.

Basically, I'm really enjoying it so far and there;s a decent amount of games coming over the next few months to keep me excited.

Exactly. I'll pick one up for cheap in a year of two once it has some games that are actually worth playing.

i wish i could turn off the gamepad with netflix. you can turn it off, but then its just on the menu/netflix is paused and if you hit anything the screen just turns back on.

Just wondering which games you've played? Also wondering if you own a PS3 or 360 and already have the multiplats that came out on WiiU? Because to just say that none of the games are solid is doing a disservice to those who are thinking about buying a system. I have NSMBU, ME3, BLOPS2, ZombiU, Your Shape, Nintendo Land, Nano Assault, Trine 2, Might Switch Force and Chasing Aurora. With the exception of Chasing Aurora (bored of single player) I'm loving my Wii U experience. BLOPS2 and ME3 are great games on any platform. To say they are not solid is an outright lie...I haven't experienced issues with any of the games. Some I play on my own and some I play with my wife and daughter. Its a great system for the whole family or just myself so far...I just hope the software continues to come.

Im really going to have to dig in to NSMBU. As for ZombiU, for me its a great game. Play at your own pace, the atmosphere, I actually do care about my characters...well at least my loot haha. I just haven't spent much time with it lately. I don't feel right playing it until the sun sets buy lately just been tired. Will def get back to it soon. My wife loves watching me play it. You should def give it a try.

Well in some of the early impressions I read some people saying loading shit takes 30 seconds. Maybe its already been fixed or something, but everything seems perfectly normal to me. Havent noticed it

For a start, there were PLENTY of Vita deals around that either reduced the cost or added in games, memory cards, Plus subscriptions and other extra value items to improve the deal. "Pricey" is a ridiculous comment when looking at the amount of tech involved in the Vita - I assume, given the overwhelming level of praise in the part of your post I haven't bothered quoting, that you don't consider $300-$350 for a Wii U "pricey" given that from specs it barely appears more well-equipped than that console you refer to that came out six years ago.

It has been far from "callously abandoned", that comment basically made your entire sarcastic putdown of the poster you quoted irrelevant, as you clearly haven't bothered to keep up with Vita developments if you think that's the case - you'd prefer to just jump on the Vita doomed bandwagon instead.

Given that plenty of Sony franchises have already got titles on the platform, and titles are still being released, plus those upcoming, and the addition of PS+ to Vita, it presents a very different picture from the one you do.

My activity log has me right below 300 hours of use since launch. Though over 150 of those hours is through use of the Neflix app, the browser, Miiverse, and Nintendo TVii (each with over 30 hours of use).

My most played games are NintendoLand, NSMBU, ZombiU, and Black Ops 2 (each with over 20 hours of use). I have a little over 40 hours in NintendoLand, with the majority of that time coming from multiplayer play. I finally just "beat" the game though, meaning I became a star player in all events, resulting in a special credit roll. Though I have yet to collect all the prizes, collect even half of the stamps, and I am currently at 60% or less "complete" with Metroid, Zelda, and Pikimin. NintendoLand has a LOAD of content, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Overall, I am enjoying the WiiU very much. While I am starting to get a bit concerned for its future (especially with the silence from third parties/Nintendo), the WiiU has already been well worth the > $500 (console, games, pro controller) I spent on it at launch.

Scenario 1: I own a PS3...I buy a Vita...have dedicated portable games and crappy off TV play to Vita...

Scenario 2: I own a 360...I buy a PS3 which is pretty redundant and I also buy a Vita just to play off TV?

Scenario 3: I own a Wii...I buy a PS3+Vita for crappy off TV play Great list of PS3 games though...but where is Nintendo Land and Mario????

Me: I own a Wii...I buy a WiiU because I want that HD home console experience and its freaking awesome that I can play almost all of the games away from the TV and online, in my bedroom, dining room, 2 of my bathrooms. BLOPS2, ME3, Nintendo Land, Nano Assault awesome! I do it a lot. Oh I pretty much use the pad as my default remote now and when my friends get a WiiU we will be using WiiU chat. I also already have 2 3DS's in the house.

Maybe I oversimplified things but thats kinda the way I look at it.

I think its the multiple things that you can do with the Gamepad that are great. There is actually a lot built into that thing. Its not 'just' the off TV play.

I'm just wondering but for the people that were disappointed with their WiiU purchase, what were you expecting? I'm really just curious, maybe I should go read the other thread. One of my friends was with me as I was buying my WiiU and he was on the fence about getting one too. He has a 360. I told him the games that are out now for the WiiU that he would like are already out on the 360 and cheaper. So he should probably stick with that or wait until he sees something that he really wants on WiiU and compare everything with the other 2 upcoming systems. He's waiting haha. You should kinda know what you are getting into before putting down 350+ on something.

I am more than satisfied with the WiiU. Especially so that it was initially an unwanted Christmas present, but after playing it I love everything about it. Nintendoland is the biggest surprise for sure. And ZombiU is of a much higher quality than I ever imagined.

My wife loves the Pikmin game in Nintendo Land. Hopefully Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 also have similar co-op options... She wasn't fan of Wii Sports or Wii Sports Resolt games, so Nintendo must have done something right here.

Overall we are very pleased with the system, I must say that this has been the best launch lineup I have ever played. And the web browser gets quite lot of use, mostly for youtube vids, but it's also pretty handy for forums, quickly googling something while playing, or just reading news while watching tv...
