Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I dont get it. lots of people saying gaming off screen is amazing...just get a Vita? Besides Nintendo games, what am i missing exactly?

I said the same thing in response to the 8-4 podcast about playing games off screen. Like all nintendo consoles, you get it for the 1st party content but even now, YMMV.

Does Vita give you the choice to switch whatever you play to a nearby tv at no lag? Just curious here.

Man, I need to stop reading this thread, too. Listen, there are plenty of reasons to buy any console out there. Whether or not you want one or not is irrelevant. No one is trying to convince you. People are talking about their experience using the console (good and bad) and you can listen (read) or not, but telling people they should buy another console is just crazy business. This kind of thing is something I can't understand.

What if you're like me and don't like Sony's offerings but like Nintendo's? Why would I get a Vita then. If you like Nintendo first party and a few third party titles then you'd probably enjoy the Wii U, even if something similar is offered elsewhere, it's not necessarily the same experience.

I've had fun with it, the games I've bought, I enjoyed for the most part and the Rayman demo was worth the price of admission, especially knowing that such a wonderful game will be coming soon.

Seeing a lot of miiverse and browser mentions. I've only had mine a week so maybe I'm missing something but isn't miiverse just a bad message board? I havnt found anything about it to be especially useful. And the browser doesn't seem to be anything special aside from the curtains gimmick. Hopefully there's some awesome aspects to both if those things that I missed and my mind will be blown.

My cousin got a Wii U for Christmas after being a fan of the Wii and being a gamer all of his life.

We only see him once or twice a year. He had a post-Christmas party the other day and at one point we did get five people playing Nintendo Land and NSMBU. The former was fun due mostly to Mario Chase and Luigi's Ghost Mansion. Just like with my launch party, passing around the Gamepad was a big part of the experience; for us it always seems a necessity to have everyone try playing the Gamepad role at least once, which is a good thing. Most of the time, people like playing more than once, too.

My cousin was eager to get into NSMBU (he loved the Wii version as well), and thus we played the first two worlds of that. Since I have already beaten the main game 100%, I decided to take on the role of the Boost player for the entire time. It was surprisingly fun. My cousin is a bit of a dick when he plays, intentionally running ahead so others get left behind to die or bubble up, so my main function most of the time was creating platforms so people wouldn't fall into pits and die, and creating walls of platforms blocking my cousin's character from progressing so others could catch up.

Basically, I'm lucky enough to have multiple friend groups to play with. Because of the multiple configurations of people that I know who enjoy playing the Wii U, games like Nintendo Land and NSMBU actually have more longevity than I normally would think, and this is only the second month of the console's life. Nintendo Land and NSMBU in particular have not been exhausted, either, since when I think about it, my friends and I haven't delved deeply into all of the Nintendo Land co-op games (the competitive ones seem to steal the show) and none of my friend groups have played beyond World 2 in NSMBU. If these games last this long, then I can't wait for when the Wii U "re-ups" with further multiplayer gems.

I haven't been playing as much of these games myself, where I'm inclined to post on Miiverse, so my Miiverse activity has dropped. I still think it's a great feature.

Additionally, I'm still not interested in buying more Wii U games just yet, but I did try the Rayman Origins demo, which was great. Makes me feel that as long as the Wii U gets compelling games at a steady pace, it'll do just fine in satisfying its audience.

The Wii U is a really cool console. It has its problems but has really come through for me so far.

Miiverse is like a Facebook or NeoGAF type of thing. You'll either love it or hate it. Posting achievements or asking questions is the main draw to it, plus drawing some cool stuff.

What's the consensus on Nintendoland as a single player game? I've got people to play with for a couple months but then I'll be moving after and basically being by myself (as a gamer)

I've drawn a few things when prompted to post something in Mario bros. but it doesn't seem especially deep. The closest I get to using any social networking is following a few people on twitter so maybe there is a Facebook vibe to it that I just don't get. Posting questions pertaining to games is pretty cool though.

I posted about this a few days ago before I opened my copy. I've played around with it as a single player only experience. I've played most of the games and I'd say if you like tend to like minigames then it's pretty decent but otherwise it might not be for you. Personally, I'm going to play the ones I havnt yet then sell it.

Game integration - you post a screenshot with a comment or a question, and people respond. Try it, it's quite useful.

WiiU browser is the second browser in the history of game consoles (1st being the 3DS one) which can be used without closing the game you're playing. This might be nothing major on a PC, but is quite a feat on a console. Plus, its the best html5 browser on a console. Again, this might not be much in comparison to PC but this is a game console. Lst but not least, it offers the best youtube experience yet, which comes particularly useful in a company - one person can browse/search youtube on the gamepad while everybody else is watching and discussing the video playing on the TV. This is something you cannot do (at least not so smoothly) even on a PC.

Omg lol u guys are sarcastically funny. For the record i have neither a wiiu or a vita...i was just asking lol.

Your question defies all logic. The games libraries between the Wii U and Vita are completely different. Just because someone likes off-screen play doesn't mean they should buy a Vita or any handheld that has entirely different games and features.

For the record, I have a Wii U and I haven't even used off-screen play yet.

I didn't know you could use the browser in game or that you could show a yt video on the tv but still browse from the controller while its playing. Those are pretty awesome.

Count me as satisfied. :)

-Miiverse is great and better integrated than I expected.
-Store's/eShop is well designed.
-New Super Mario Bros. U is what I wanted and expected.
-NintendoLand is more fun than expected.
-Nano Assault is another greaat addition to the Nano-series form Shine'n.

Glad to be of help. Apropos, every single app from the home-button menu can be used while you have a game running.

I'm seriously in need of more DK Crash Course in my life. That piece of software is the pinnacle of everything this industry has/can/ever will offer. Gaming can't get any better than this.

I had no idea...how do you post a screenshot?
During any game/app, you press the Home button and whatever it's on either screen can be posted as a screenshot. You just click on Miiverse, it takes you to the specific-forum and click the "picture icon" at the top when posting a message. Then it will ask you to choose which screenshot (TV or controller).

I love this thing a lot more than I thought I would!

Off-TV play is a game changer for me. I didn't think a lot of it but I prefer playing games like Black Ops 2 just on the GamePad even in the same room as my TV.

Also asymmetric gameplay is fantastic and I really hope that a major franchise is born on Wii U built around that mechanic. You can't know how great it can be until you actually experience it.

Also I'd just like to add that ZombiU is really awesome and I honestly don't understand some of the reviews it was getting early on. I'm hopeful that we get a sequel at some point in the Wii U life cycle.

My satisfaction level with the WiiU? Zero.

It is slower than most 286 computers I have seen in my days.

The GUI is retarded, non-intuitive. No games that would make it stand out of the crowd. None. I remember buying the N64 launch copy of the EDGE magazine (1996). It was just so fresh. WiiU is like mashed up worms that the mother bird has regurgitated once and now the chicks have thrown it up once more.

The loading, oh my god the loading.

Was playing Xenoblade Chronicles today on the Wii U. Still a nice looking game that is engaging and really fun. The wife is playing Pikmin 2 and we are still playing NintendoLand. The Wii U is greatly appreciated within our household. We are both excited about Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3 and Monster Hunter for myself. It has frozen up a few times while streaming videos but we still use it alot for Hulu and Netflix. So far, along with the backlog of Wii titles we are collecting, the Wii U has already paid itself off.

Very tempted to get one but lack of games that are not ports is putting me off , already played most of them on Xbox . However one possible draw and for me is wii comparability as I only jumped into wii briefly and still missed a lot of quality games like skyward sword.

No off screen for wii games is really putting me off. Off screen is my big draw card for wiiu , I am always fighting for tv time so it is a huge appeal.

The innovators over at Nintendo are like children In business suits. This is why ill always love nintendo as they bring the man-child out of you.

Microsoft and Sony are great, but it just feels like they don't posses the same spirit as Nintendo has.

That being said, this is why I like my Wii U. For the first time in gaming, the hardware was more interesting then the games(maybe except virtualboy and 3ds, still Nintendo). This is why I love Nintendo.

I use to draw all the time when I was a kid, but gave it up. The Wii u has brought back that spark.

Let's just hope they hit a homerun in their software department. I'm optimistic in seeing how their current and new IPs turn out.

The launch titles overall wasn't anything to brag about, but it is definitely solid. I'm sure Nintendo has more things up their sleeves.

I like the off-screen play, I'll take as many glowing rectangles as I can get. I still kinda hope Nintendo abandons a traditional console next gen and makes handhelds/tablets with a docking station. If they're not going to make powerful hardware, they may as well go for a gimmick that works.

I agree that people who cite it as some game changer are highly confusing individuals, though. Like multi-function tablets, handhelds, laptops, etc all never existed prior. The form factor on the controller is pretty cool, but the concept of playing a game not on the tv... not exactly new and the other options don't chop and turn to black if I move one room away and shut the door.

So you'd rather that graphics over power gameplay to keep a console around?

May I remind you that the nes was driven by gameplay and not graphics. This being the system that brought new life back into home console gaming and can arguably be the big reason why the xbox and playstation exist today?

Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

You make the loading way worse than it actually is. The console hard locking is more of a concern than the load times.

Also loving my purchase so far. I bought the deluxe before Christmas along with ZombieU then downloaded Trine 2 and Nano Assault Neo :) Great times! My 10yo daughter loves playing trine. All she cares about is the music and the beautiful landscapes haha but it keeps her going. Nano Assault is just crack hahaha, I beat it so now I just go back and try survivor or try to up my scores. Nintendo Land is AWESOME! Wife loves it, daughter loves it and I love it. Octopus dance is actually one of my daughters favorites haha. ZombieU is great, love the game, I only play it late nights as my wife clutches my arm and watches.

For the new year I finally bought Mario, BLOPS2, ME3 and Your Shape. Haven't spent much time with Mario yet because I'm hooked on ME3 and BLOPS2. Since I was Wii only last gen I was blown away at ME3...beautiful game! Also, having just played BLOPS1 on Wii a couple of weeks ago I was awed by the jump to HD :D Haven't started up Your Shape yet but I'm sure it will help me work of the Holiday weight gain haha.

As far as issues go with the ports...I think lots of folks were blowing things waaaaay outta proportion. The games look beautiful. The games ran beautifully. No problems for me. Issues with the system...hmmm...I did have one hard lock but thats about it. Oh, I did buy Chasing Aurora but its not much fun single player and my daughter doesn't want to try out the multi yet haha. Oh snap, almost forgot about mighty switch force! Cute fun game, music to rock out to haha. I have no idea who completed the levels in par time haha. Thats just crazy.

yeah, my family liked the demo a lot. My daughter made me promise to buy the game once it is out.

I've been playing Black Ops 2, usually off screen and loving it. No real complaints, wish the OS was faster. Everything works as expected...and because of Black Ops 2, I'll be playing this console much more than the Wii.

You definitely have to put some time into Mario. I like to think of Derek from the movie step brothers at the dinner table when he says, "...no, its gorgeous."

The challanges are very fun and creative.

Boost mode was surprisingly awesome. This being the case because my nephew was playing. I had the chance to correct A LOT of his mistakes.

The Wii u is really at its full potential when kids/nephews/nieces are involved.

Otherwise still enjoyable on your own, especially if you still have that child in you.

I've really been enjoying the system. MiiVerse exceeded all expectations and really makes me turn the system on every day, like my 3DS for streetpasses.

That said, off screen play hasn't really been something I've used. A couple of times I've played Mario, or Nano Assault on the pad only because the television was taken, but I will always opt to play on my much nicer television over the Game Pad.

Love the system, love NSMBU, love posting and looking at all the art on Miiverse, love watching Youtube flawlessly streamed in the best Internet browser ever seen on a home console and the Hulu and Netflix apps rock too. I really want to try Scribblenaughts, Tekken and Madden 13 and after playing the demo I definitely plan on buying Rayman Legends. Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 will be awesome and I can't to see what EAD Tokyo and Retro have planned.

I dont get it. lots of people saying gaming off screen is amazing...just get a Vita? Besides Nintendo games, what am i missing exactly?

Right, I don't get it either. You'd think that more of the people in this thread who are enjoying their new dedicated console with fully supported and instantly accessible out of the box off-TV play would instead be jumping at the chance to spend an extra $250-300 dollars on a pricey, poorly supported standalone portable that's been all but callously abandoned and sent off to die by its own company on top of a $250 + six year old home console.

I love my Wii U. All that needs to be fixed is the loading times and the account system so it can be loaded in another console in case of a replacement, but I trust both of those are coming.

Nintendo Land is amazingly fun, NSMBU is gorgeous, ZombiU is surprisingly good, and spent quite some time with Just Dance 4.

Don't regret my purchase one bit.

It needs to be noted that this function is not standard, but up to the publisher. Just Dance 4, for example, doesn't let you post screenshots.

No regrets on my Wii U! Fun, exciting console.

Wish I had a bit more time to spend on it, though. Hope to change that soon. Gonna hit NSMBU hard soon, hope to snag some eshop and Zombi U soon.

Off TV play is a fucking revelation.
