Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I'm at 300+, though my wii u has been packed up for the past week or so due to traveling during the holiday.

I've got just over 200 hours logged on mine. It's spread out over a number of titles. So far I've completed Zombi U, AC3 and Ninja Gaiden 3.

425+ Hours on my Activity Log still have a huge backlog to go but I want to see some release dates soon or I'll be pissed

Well, damn, that's a lot of hours! I'm sitting at a little over 250 myself. I did notice that the Daily Log didn't record a few of my sessions (Internet Browser in particular) when I would power the system down via the button on the console. Just the other day, I didn't use the Wii U for anything other than the Internet Browser (to watch Youtube videos) and powered the console down while the app was still running. The very next day, it showed that I had no activity. It's not a big deal but I hope this doesn't happen with the actual games I play, haha.

Aside from the heavy Netflix usage, I've put in 25 hours in NSMBU, 20 hours in COD:BLOPSII, 12 hours in Nintendo Land, 10 hours in Ninja Gaiden 3 and 4 hours in Nano Assault Neo. I'm still working on getting all the Star Coins in NSMBU, still playing multiplayer in BLOPSII and Nintendo Land, will play through some levels with Kasumi in NG3 and will try to top my high scores in Nano Assault. I also have ZombiU that I've yet to play. I'm thoroughly satisfied with my purchase and the games out now will keep me busy until Rayman Legends hit in late February.

Bought mine tonight, absolutely loving it.

But who the hell wrote the Amazon Prime App?

I have had to login/register my account on my machine three times now, and it keeps logging me out. Getting really angry about it.

Anybody know what gives?

Possibly the worst "nailed it" candidate I've ever seen.

Oh, I hardly think so.

Denial sure is a powerful drug. Look, I'm
a die hard PSP fan. I own a Slim, a launch Phat and stacks of UMDs, both domestic and import yet I have little desire to get a Vita because of terrible BC non-support (don't feel like the choice of rebuying a limited selection of the UMD titles I already own is an acceptable option) and Sony doesn't care at this point and you know it. I realize it's an attractive system in some ways, but I don't plan on getting one unless Sony starts moving faster than the devs who are jumping ship on it. And thanks for mentioning the stupid new proprietary memory cards they greedily came up with that make all the memory sticks that I bought useless, forgot about that. There's another potential additional $100 tacked on to the price if you want a worthwhile one with above decent storage. And no, I don't want to buy a Vita bundle.

remote play is abysmal currently on the Vita

Thank you, I think we're done here now as to what's actually relevant to the discussion. No really, we're done now because I'm not going to derail this thread re-explaining obvious things that have already been covered in a million other Vita threads on the current state of the system. I'm glad you love yours though and hope it succeeds in spite of what's dragging it down at the moment (which is mostly Sony and poor sales, not talking about game quality).

Close to 90 hours now, 50 of which belong to NSMBU and Zombi U. I love the system and I love the GamePad. It's like the controller commands me to lie down on the couch or bed every time I open it.

There are a LOT of issues though. First and most important, there's mist ahead for the system - are we going to get proper ports? Where are the rest of the games? Is this going to be on life support pretty soon? Second, Nintendo needs to fix a lot of the system's technical issues, starting with the slow OS.

All in all, I'm a supporter, and MiiVerse and the Off TV/ assymetric gameplay are the best features I've seen in gaming, in a long time.

Chest infections are rough, hope you feel better.

Thank you. They're not the best are they.

I'm just wondering but for the people that were disappointed with their WiiU purchase, what were you expecting? I'm really just curious, maybe I should go read the other thread. One of my friends was with me as I was buying my WiiU and he was on the fence about getting one too. He has a 360. I told him the games that are out now for the WiiU that he would like are already out on the 360 and cheaper. So he should probably stick with that or wait until he sees something that he really wants on WiiU and compare everything with the other 2 upcoming systems. He's waiting haha. You should kinda know what you are getting into before putting down 350+ on something.

I made this point in another thread, but I don't think the "you should have known what you were getting yourself into" line covers all circumstances or all eventualities.

Before I bought my Wii U, I didn't know:

1.) That I was done with 2D Mario platformers. The most enthusiastic I can get about NSMBU is that I'm overwhelmed by indifference towards it.
2.) That I would dislike Nintendo Land more as a single player experience than I actually thought
3.) That my friends and family wouldn't like Nintendo Land anywhere near enough to ever play it again multiplayer
4.) That the image quality of Sonic All Stars Racing would be absolutely appalling
5.) That the OS would actually be as slow and irritating to use as people said it would be
6.) That The Wonderful 101 would still have no release date by January
7.) That Pikmin 3 would be pushed to Q2 2013
8.) That the Rayman Legends demo would do absolutely nothing for me
9.) That I'd end up using Off Screen Play way less to play something like COD than I do my 3DS or iPad in the same TV-less scenarios
10.) That I would lose all interest in Miiverse after a week
11.) That the disc drive would prove distractingly noisy and be a problem for my Off TV Play sessions
12.) That the GamePad range would extend no further than the front room in my house

That's 12 things I learned about after launch, or that I was expecting the opposite of to happen, that have soured my experience with the Wii U. Some of those things might sound trivial to others, but I think they're all examples of things that people couldn't have known about prior to launch week.

There is a caveat here in that I'm only selling my Wii U because I'm building a gaming PC, and am managing to sell my Wii U and games without losing a penny from what I paid for it all, which will go quite a way to helping me with the PC. If I was going to lose money or I wasn't building a PC, I might have kept the system and slogged through the launch issues and underwhelming launch games (particularly from Nintendo), but as it stands the trade value of the Wii U is worth more to me than the Wii U is. Should I have waited? Absolutely yes, but I didn't on the basis that I wouldn't encounter the above 12 issues. I bought it expecting to like it, expecting a certain level of quality from the hardware and software, and expecting to like more of the games I tried than ZombiU and a Call of Duty I already owned elsewhere. That's the sort of stuff you can't account for unless you buy the system and try it yourself.

something changed in the way they are doing the set up I did not have this issue before until tonight I was shocked that after the first week and now a month has passed that it saved and I was asked to put this code again. How can something just work for over a month and just starts to go bad? Maybe it's the year change and Amazon updated something on the website side that needed a redo.

Amazon and Nintendo are not buddies but I really doubt Amazon wants to go a burn this app and lose out on money like this so hopefully what every the issue is with them they get this fix

Ok my satisfaction post:

Pretty satisfied. But I was sold since a long time (GBA/GC) with the subscreen concept.
Launch line-up miss Pikmin 3 to me. NintendoLand and NSMBU are pretty hard, yeah I'm part of the problem but because of this I don't play as much as I wish. It's hard to beat Wii Sports/Twilight Princess on Wii on play time!
Miiverse is awesome, and I didn't have a single hard lock. But I'm always lucky when it comes to Nintendo.

Only (major) con about the system, everything is slow as f**k. Except the web browser.
I don't understand how is this possible.
Back at the Wii iwata asks, they reveal Iwata wanted the Wii to boot a game in less than 5 secs. They did it, but I think 5 secs is still too much ^^
The Wii U is way slower than that, and it takes forever to launch Miiverse (even when it's 3secs it's forever). How is this possible with a 3 cores CPU and 1 dedicated GB of RAM? I don't know.

For the downsides since this is the fitting thread:

- too long (not unbearable but it's a stark difference compared to Nintendo previous systems) loading time when starting an app.

- unfortunately the signal won't reach my bedroom but just wall outside it (but I was aware that it wasn't guarantee to reach it).

- overall I like the youtube app but it's very silly I can't watch a video/navigate only using the gamepad (yes, I know I can use the browser).

- as always for a system launch: more software (that interest me) is needed sooner rather than later.
For now I'm content of Trine and Nintendo Land.

- no VC support on eshop is a bit disappointing.

- It's stupid that after the Wii->Wii U transfer I cannot play those wiiware games on my original Wii.

EDIT:
About the loading times:
I accept a few seconds for an app that need to set a connection online like Miiverse but it's ridiculous to wait this long only to access the console settings.

I'm enjoying it.
But I have a problem GAF and I need help... I want to like Nintendo Land but I just can't, I tried all games but I'm just not feeling it. BUT I'm having a blast with Zombi U, I love it even if I'm scared all the time :P

I've had mine since November and I really like it. Like the OP, I didn't buy this for 3rd party multi platform games, so I really don't care how little the 3rd parties support it.

I'm enjoying it.

The Donkey Kong game will be your gateway drug.

Play ZombiU campaign.
Then when friends come to your house:
+ booze
+ friends
+ Nintendo Land
= success (?)

Happy with NSMBU at the moment, having Mario in HD is great. I might pick up ZombiU as well this week as that looks decent, after that I fear a bit of a drought though.

I would love Nintendo to give some of their classic titles the HD treatment like SOny has this gen. I would be all over a Zelda HD collection. In the long run they need to get me a new Mario Kart, Zelda and 3D based Mario.

Also mildly annoyed that here in the UK it is not possible to buy a White Pro Controller :-(

Loving my Wii U. I haven't noticed any long loading times on the apps like miiverse. It is all relatively quick. Plus I really love how the social aspect is integrated into the console.

New Super Mario Bros. U is just a joy to play and ZombiU just scares the bejeesus out of me.

Fifa on the GamePad is incredible. It allows me to play in semi assisted mode for most settings, while benefiting from manual runs, passing and shots. I'm 40 hours on it already, starting being good at mixing touchscreen/usual gameplay. My GOTY, I haven't touched any other game since I've had it.

I played the demo and was mighty impressed with the use of the game pad in the game. Just wondering though that every shot i took when shaking the gamepad and touched the goal I scored...Just wondering if that could be a bit overpowered?

I had the gamepad in my hands for the first time yesterday at a store. It immediately struck me how light it felt. It felt good in the hands.

I've got a quick question. If I bought one, and decided I didn't want to import my Wii virtual console games right now, can I do that at any time later?

Yes, you can do the Wii->Wii U transfer whenever you want (or even not doing it).

I've decided to wait a year so I'll know what direction MS/Sony are going in with their next consoles. If they're expensive, poorly engineered pieces of crap at release, like they were for the last cycle, I'll likely pick up a WiiU.

Yes, the Youtube app is garbage. Watch YouTube in the Internet browser which features full Gamepad/Off TV support and streams flawlessly. Avoid the app like the plague.

Honestly? I feel like i shouldn't of bought it so early, i have this feeling when every new console comes out because i play the launch the games and then have nothing to play for months.

It literally hasn't been turned on since the first week of its launch.

Youve finished all of the launch games within the first week of launch? Thats pretty good going!

I tried it yesterday. It's really, really cool.

I love the controller. It feels solid. I am not really that interested in the motion part, but I love the idea of hiding the HUD on the controller to keep the TV clutterfree. thats a fantastic idea. The analog sticks was not as nice as 360 Controller.

If Microsoft could create an xbox 360 controller that contains some 4-5 inch display, that would be wicked.

Zelda co-op is seriously awesome, but my personal favorite is Metroid Blast (Ground Assault single player). Don't really care for DK, but I seem to be in the minority there lol

I remain very satisfied. Launch day was an ugly experience, but I have made good use of off screen play, and have put a good amount of time in Sonic All Stars and Zombi U single player, and have had quality multiplayer time with NintendoLand, Trine 2 and NSMBU. I was kind of regretting getting NSMBU until a couple of multiplayer sessions on Sunday and New Years Eve. My wife unexpectedly loves being the tablet player, which is a key thing because she doesn't like video games at all.

There's some good titles on the horizon I plan to spend a lot of time with. So long as we don't hit a bad drought post 'launch window' I don't see myself cooling on how much I like the system any time soon.

So far no hard locks since the update.

Loving the system. Nintendo land is addicting and Donkey Kong's attraction is absolutely hilarious when you blow up.

Hope you don't mind me asking but the above caught my attention - what can't you do on the pad that you wish you could?

My satisfaction level with the WiiU? Zero.

It is slower than most 286 computers I have seen in my days.

The GUI is retarded, non-intuitive. No games that would make it stand out of the crowd. None. I remember buying the N64 launch copy of the EDGE magazine (1996). It was just so fresh. WiiU is like mashed up worms that the mother bird has regurgitated once and now the chicks have thrown it up once more.

The loading, oh my god the loading.

You're comparing the WiiU to a copy of EDGE? How does that work?

Games that make it stand out: Nintendoland and ZombieU. If you'd played them you would understand.
There isn't a single person I know who hasn't been impressed with the multiplayer --this-- is what makes it stand out from the crowd. The only problem the console has is getting that message across.

They didn't include an optical audio output on the U, right?

Why?

Nope. And what's worse is they made it so you can't use the audio from the component cable and the video from the HDMI. Hopefully they can patch that later. If they care. Given that the Gamepad remote functions can't even control a stereo receiver, I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, but it's local only multiplayer. Nintendoland not having online is a crime; Nintendo seriously fucked up there.

Maybe I didn't find the option but I couldn't display the video on my gamepad.

Also the buffering could be better (some long video failed to start in a reasonable time span).

Quick question: Will my GF and I be able to play all of the multiplayer Nintendo Land games with the following collection of controllers:

1.) Gamepad
2.) 2 Wii Motes
3.) 1 nunchuck

Do we have everything or will we need a second nunchuck for any reason?

Overall I am definitely satisfied with my Wii U. Having virtual console titles available with Miiverse and gamepad would be the icing on the cake though. I really hope Nintendo is proactive with updates and new OS features.

Also put me down for the zero hard locks since day 1. I guess I should consider myself lucky.
