I can only hope NT continues to improve and takes over the DMC series going forward. Capcom will just RE6 it otherwise.

Oh come on. This isn't true at all.
Why do games like Persona 4 or Dark Souls or even visual novels like Virtue's Last Reward get great reviews if the press is so anti-Japanese?

Of course it is not true. The western press LOVED Bayonetta as well.

But, one has to acknowledge that there is one thing that the press loves even more than japanese games. And that is the drama... :P

isn't just grasping at straws, its smells like paranoia.

I would say that this game should review better than previous DMCs or equivalent games because reviewers are probably well within the target demographic for the game. I get the feeling that reviews for very technical games (fighting games especially) can't really comment on mechanics so they end up giving scores based on features included or graphics. This game gives them a lot to write about, so they don't have to rely as heavily on canned "long-time fans will probably like this or that" observations. Hopefully.

Though I'm curious what the most negative reviews will criticize about the game. I don't imagine it would have much to do with franchise history and comparing it to previous games.

yeah. i think they actually describe a 7 as "average", or at least they used to. i mean, maybe it deserves the 9. but i'm sure as hell not going to make that decision based on the word of fucking GAME INFORMER

They have been open about the fact that they compare there scores to the US grading system where 70 is average. Nothing wrong with that as long as they are consistent in that usage.

This is true....never understood why people took issue with the 7 to10 scale

Its the same as A (90-100) B(80-89) C(70-79) scale used to grade in the US

They more use the 8.75-10 scale than anything else. They're great for industry scoops and previews but they're reviews are definitely affected by their relation with Gamestop.

Metacritic. Game Informer can do what they want, obviously, it's more a larger issue with the entire industry in general.
 
It's not anti-Western bias that's making them like this game, a lot of them probably do. What's amazing is the almost uniform characterisation of DMC fans as zealots that can't adapt to change and non-white hair. My guess for the last one is that they know they're inadequate to review the new game and can't admit it because it puts the whole institution of games journalism in jeapordy.
 
I would say most reviews are fine thus far.
Sorry to say but Pro DMC players aren't exactly a big selling base. I've went through 1 and 3 with relatively little skill on normal mode and I'm sure a bulk of the consumers have as well of the earlier titles.

Now should someone who's really technical in DMC put out a review? Of course, but you're kidding yourself if a review of that caliber comes out prior to release.

I don't know why everyone doesn't just do this. I hated how shitty I thought the game was. I thought the combat was horrible and that donte was one of the worse characters of all time. I didn't start enjoying the demo until I stopped comparing it to dmc 3 and 4. People would really enjoy the game if they stopped comparing it to the old games.
