DmC Review Thread (Release Date - 1/15/13) Embargo is over!

Can't really watch it at the moment due to shitty mobile connections. What were you saying?
That the hit pauses during/after the attacks slow down the combat when in fact the moves themselves aren't that much faster/slower than previous games. When you start adding up all these pauses and lag times it leads to a slower combat overall.

LMAO @ that OT.

Ha Ha, computer accurate! Well done!

While we are waiting for the OT, might as well take a trip down the memory lane to 2008

Ah yes... the good ol' days of big ass OTs for games.

Can't do that anymore. Also all of my links are now banned. Back then you could use those sites to upload images, not anymore. Things have changed on GAF...

It will have more weapons, more enemies and more emphasis on story than any previous game, and thus will be the longest and content wise, the biggest.
HAHAHAHAAHHAAHAAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAAHAA

DmC OT will have a Tips and Tricks for Newcomers as well. It's a DMC GAF OT tradition.

Dahbomb:

"LOCKING ON

A very essential part of the DMC combat. The Lock On (activated by R1 or Right Bumper) allows you to lock on to an enemy and basically synchronize your movements to the perspective of that enemy. It also lights up a target reticule giving you an approximation of the health remaining for that enemy (blue reticules in a circle). "

Wasn't it the DMC HD Collection "here's a giant mothafuckin' guide on how to play the game" OT that broke the camel's back on that one

My favorite OT

"Devil Hunter mode is targeted at the core DMC audience, the fanbase. This is also the difficulty of choice for challenge addicts and for all intents and purposes"

DH mode challenging

sure dahbomb

Please bear in mind that the OT was made before anyone actually played the game. Pretty much all the info was what Capcom had given us.

Reading that paragraph again I felt like I did a good job in convincing the fans that this is the difficulty they should be starting with.

With all the statements from Capcom and NT guy pertaining this game, it's prime material for greatness like the OT for dragon age 2. Regardless of DmC's actual quality, too much hilarious stuff has been said. The feel of 60, too many FPS can hurt people, etc etc.

So the Ninja Theory tweet refers to genuine reviews. I was expecting that this game would review well even if it wasn't satisfactory to DMC devotees just because it's built to be accessible and that would be received well by most reviewers. But are there fake reviews going up for this game somewhere? If embargo hasn't lifted yet and these high-score reviews are appearing, are reviews under a certain score waiting until embargo lifts, or does Capcom not operate that way?

Print media has first dibs on the reviews. The online reviews are embargoed till monday.

The review in question that caused NT to speak out on twitter came from a site that no access to the review code. So it was either using a preview code and pulled information from other sites to fill in the blanks, or it had no access to the press copies at all and just pulled outside information to make a review. Either way, it was said by Capcom and NT that it was not legitimate.

Thanks for the clarification - so there is a fake review out there. Oh my lawd, the controversy! The lead-up to this game's release is weirdly entertaining. Everything's so contentious.

Top right one is some navy blue/black Vergil pallet swap? I reckon the bottom right one could be the DMC1 costume supposedly shown in Famitsu. Or it could be that earlier revealed white hair version of Dante, unless that's how he looks at the end of the game?

Edit: Dante in Converse is fucking LOL. Worse than the Diesel clothing from DMC2.

So I read the Game Informer review which is surprisingly tiny going by the two pages.

Apparently only the final boss
(which we know to be Vergil)
is the only good boss fight in the game. Though I'm sure we knew this already. They too regard the rest of the bosses as a bit wank due to some of them requiring platforming to beat rather than outright skills.

They also say that the final few missions gives the game a 'running on fumes' feeling as they do not surpass the high bar set by the earlier missions. As if the whole shapeshifting world gets a bit tedious towards the end.

A bit disappointing as I was hoping NT would save something special for the final missions.

Review reads a bit poorly though. They basically love the combat, find Limbo and the ideas behind it breathtaking but otherwise a poor end game, shit DT (which is well known already) and shit bosses are their low points. Nowt much else in the way of new info.

LoL... awww.. i'm loving that.

Also.. if there is one good thing to come from any thread about any part of DMC past or present it is the glorious youtube combo searches that get done.

This... is how you do air fighting in a Devil May Cry game. I said Gawt Damn.

These outfits are just all the more funny based on Tameem's comments about old Dante:

“The essence of Devil May Cry is all about ‘cool. It’s about Dante being cool and making you feel cool when you’re playing it, and so the combat and the style system and everything is integral to that. But, you know, what was cool 12 years ago — I think that was when the first game came out – isn’t cool anymore.”

“If Dante, dressed as he was, walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he’d get laughed out."

Maybe I'm going to the wrong bars, but I do not think those DLC skins, let alone his actual skin, fits with the statements above. This, by the way, is why when people tell me the game is a parody of itself I have a hard time believing it. The game comes off to me as desperately wanting to be cool and Tameem thinks it is.

I'm not saying I haven't bought some pretty shameless DLC skin packs in the past - I am no saint in that regard. At least they're. . .cheap? Appropriately priced for DLC?
they should be unlockables, but that trend has pretty much gone forever.

EDIT:

the praiseworthy said:
The left outfit look really cool IMO.

I guess Tameem may know his demographic better than I do
