Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

Any Vita you buy is a fantastic deal. The system is seriously fantastic.

I don't think there is a sale or anything at the moment. I would recommend grabbing the AC bundle if you can still find it and you want a white system. It looks amazing and has the best bundled game IMO.

+1. My black one looks better with the pdp grips tho.

I mean I want to see more sports games (though I really only care about FIFA Madden which I know both will continue). But sony and japanese games will be pretty much enough for me as well. PSN games are also surprisingly fun (I never played many DD games until PS+)

I just worry that the system will be declared dead by sony and there will be NO support past this year. But I really think Sony's got a bunch more money to throw around before they give up.
sony may be in a different place than with the psp or ps3... but both of those stumbled out of the gate and they continued to support them until they found their footing and both became one of the top 10 selling consoles of all time. Sony isn't going to run away just because the vita is stumbling a bit. They saw how the combination of a lower price and titles people want at the same time saved the 3ds, they will at least give that a shot with the vita... beyond that sony has a habit of beating a dead horse for a while... just look at their tv department. Everything says they should just ditch their tv department but instead they continue to invest in stupid expensive tvs that won't well and will just lose them money lol.

The vita isn't selling psp go terrible not even close and that was officially supported for 2 years. the only way I see sony dropping support for the vita before 2016 or so is if they fully go bankrupt and have to pull out of everything which is highly unlikely.

That's good news for me. I don't really follow sales and what not. I just want to have fun with my system for a few years more.

I'm hoping sony makes a big push at E3 about connectivity with the ps4. That and a few more games announcements plus a price drop could do wonders i think

We will have to see, heck knowing sony I wouldn't be surprised if half of their e3 was a goodbye to the ps2, the next 3/4ths ps3 games, and then the last 1/8th the vita and ps4 lol
:o now I'm confused lol

The phrase means "I agree" basically :D

I see...
I am starting to think that I may need to invest in a Kyon to zulux dictionary as this is the second time something you have said has left me totally lost until you explained it :P

LMFAO sorry. I used to have normal vocabulary when I was on gaming side now I took my real Internet persona and am now using it on here. It just fun tbh.

it's all good, i'll adjust quick enough, it's not like not knowing all of the lingo is something new for me. I am still relatively new to neogaf (i've been an postable member for only like 7 months :P) and still don't know all of the memes/lingo for example lol.

Anyways I really hope the transition to the ps4 is like it was from the ps2 to ps3 where they have some games for the ps4 but they still have a few big titles come out for the ps3 after the ps4 launches.

especially since if the ps4 is as powerful as people hope we likely will stop getting retail cross buy games as the vita just won't be able to handle them. we will likely only get psn digital cross buy titles. Ideally though the ps4 will be powerful enough to be able to stream all ps4 games to the vita though, as that would be a nice bonus for owning both.

I do wonder with the web based ps store coming if I will be able to get ps4 ps+ items with out owning a ps4, as i doubt i will be buying the ps4 at launch.

on a different note I just realized I have more time invested in persona 4 golden then i have invested in any one thing on my 3ds lol

Ok, so I bought both. Bought okami on my sons account so I could buy him a sackboy avatar (can't add 21p to the wallet), and Tokyo jungle on my account. I now have £31.85 in credit on my PSN account. Please EDF be less than that, I'm not adding 14p..
Confirmed as £31.99 I'm afraid. :(

Is there any way to enforce rebuilt database ?
If you hold the power button forever it brings up the recovery menu I think.

If anyone could help me in Knytt Underground, I'd appreciate it. I'm stuck here:

FK6PP.jpg

The image is a bit dark, since the game doesn't seem to allow you to take screenshots outside of that menu. But it's screen 14,12 in the game's map, if anyone would be as kind as to help me. There was some kind of ice-creature there who I'm now supposed to take somewhere, but I simply can't get out of that hole. Is there something I'm missing? Should I not be there yet?
You're still in chapter 1 I take it? The structure of the game is weird, but you'll get a different
form
in chapter 2 and in chapter 3 you can choose between your two
forms
. The map is the same in all three chapters, but it's not until chapter 3 that you can reach most of it.

I like the game, but it really tells you NOTHING. You have to stumble around to find things.

Corpse Party (the first one). I like it, but some of the puzzles are a bit weird. and it has some odd dialogue every now and then.
The entire game is weird. I can't get my head around the structure of it at all. Dialogue is amazing though.

I have been playing Shadow of Colossus via remote play and it is phenomenal. This is my first playthrough! Sony should definitely add more games to remote play. Atleast all the classics hd collections. I would seriously be pissed if ps4 does not support remote play from day 1 for all titles :/

I really want to play it but i have a dingy 23" monitor and i play up close to it and the game looks a bit dated. I try to play sometime on the ps3 also But its perfect for the handheld :p

Finally got approved on GAF!

I got the Liberations bundle for a birthday present last month and bought myself P4G and a 32GB card. Since I already have PS+ I've got a great library for my Vita. Totally loving it! I just need more people on my friends list, so please add me!
PSN: hi-fi_famicom

My god, thanks for the video. Definitively will not buy, frame rate is unbearable and I've no problem playing NLKS.

Hmm. I love EDF 2017, but the framerate does seem quite a lot worse than the 360 version. Might fire that up later to check.

EDF for 31.99 isn't too bad, only 1.99 more than I expected

Boo. Not buying then. It'll be discounted pretty quickly, is a potential PS+ title IMO and I have tons to play anyway. Will (try to ) resist

I would do a ban bet that there is no discount in the first 6 months

Why is it developers don't realise that people will be more likely to take the plunge and buy an unknown cheap game, than an unknown expensive one.

Its almost a self forfilling prophecy.
They price high because they believe not many people will buy.
Then not many people buy because they price high!

I am no businessman, but even I can see the flaw in their logic.

it really depends on how quickly you need the money.
Lets say 5k people would buy a game at $40
10k at $30
20k at $20
30k at $15
40k at $10
50k at $5

keep in mind that taking the game from $40 to $30 after launch won't net you an extra 10k sales but the difference in sales so 5k more at $30.

so lets assume that would be day one sales if they launched at that price and no copies of the game would sell after that day unless the price was dropped. it's not how reality works (so please don't get hung up on the numbers i am using to give the example of my concept :P) but it's less messy then assuming large day 1 sales and then low next days sales until there is a sale.

so day 1 you could have
200k if you sold it at $40
300k if you sold it at $30
400k if you sold it at $20
450k if you sold it at $15
400k if you sold it at $10
or 250k if you sold it at $5 of those the $40 would be the worst case for value, but if you did that $40 sale, and then dropped the price to $15 you would make 200k plus 375k or 575k which is higher than any of the single totals.

my point being that while yes the price is high and it will make the game sell less that doesn't mean they lost sales, but that they won't get those sales until it reaches the price point they want. They will have some people wait for a lower price than they would have paid day one had they launched at that price but in general for a really niche title like EDF it's not a horrible idea to start high and trickle the price down with sales try to get each person who buys it to buy it at as high of a price as possible.

If you need money right away it's not a good plan, but with such a niche title it's not like you need to move as many copies as you can while you have marketing going. A good example of this would be titles on steam. They tend to follow the exact model I am talking about. The start the game at a high price lets say $40. They sell some copies and their sales trickle off so they put a 25%-50% discount (so down to $20-$30), their sales boost up again until the sale is over and then go back to a slow trickle of sales. The next time they put it on a bigger sale and sell even more copies again. It's a process that has been proven time and time again, with plenty of companies reporting that when their game is 75% off they often get as much if not more revenue then when their game first launched.

for the to long didn't read. If all they are worried about is day 1 sales then yes they need to lower the price to move copies. if they are worried about maximizing profits over long term though starting high and working their way down is the way to go.

Ideally we start seeing the console digital distribution become more and more like the PC, where we have regular good sales on items. I would say since the introduction of plus sony has gotten a lot better about it, they aren't there yet but it's not like decent sales are unheard of anymore. Microsoft is also not terrible but i don't feel they are quite as good as sony with the deals. and nintendo... well I think there has been 2 like 15% off sales in the history of the eshop so yeah.....

anyways... one long, mostly unasked for thinking out loud rant over :P

Just finished off Mutant Blobs and I am waiting for delivery of VLR.

As someone who didn't play the original, is there a recommended video out there that one needs to watch before playing, to catch up on story?

It's not as simple as that.

The hardcore EDF fans will buy the game no matter what the price. Thus, they get more profit by selling it at $40 instead $20, which would require double the amount of sales to earn the same amount. And unless you can guarantee those sales, it's actually smarter to start at a higher entry price and gain a higher profit at launch, then lower the price to grab whoever wasn't willing to bite at $40.

Alternatively, "why price it at $20 right off the bat when people are willing to give us $40 for it?"

Edit: Beaten hard by zulux.

They pretty much explain what happened in 999 throughout the game so I don't think watching a video or anything is necessary.

While playing 999 isn't required for VLR, there are a lot of scenes that become much more meaningful if you do play it. You could, at the least, look up a lets play or something and skim through it.

Well in NPD thread highest selling 3DS title from 3rd party is Angry Birds and that was 20$ from start.

edit: also if you guys didn't see NP thread COD sales > UGA sales (slightly) so i guess we have a new best selling game on Vita

But a lot of them may have been willing to spend $40 on it :P It makes sense to sell it fr $40, catch all the sales you can from that, then drop the price.

Same reason hardware launches at a high price and slowly drops

I said in the first part of my post that they have no incentive to go for a lower price at launch cause they aren't guaranteed double the profits as a result. Angry Birds doesn't have that problem because it's Angry Birds, c'mon.

Hell, they probably could have gotten away with $40 seeing how they released retail console versions at $60. :|

If there was an EDF game where I could shoot thousands of angry birds instead of bugs I'd buy it straight away.

What's going on Carl? I haven't being follow your marketing the developments.

I’ve had a Vita from the (EU) launch, and since then, I’ve been lurking Gaf. It is an honour to finally walk amongst, and be part of the league of extraordinary Vitabros (and Vitamuffins). Looking forward to contributing to this community :)

Soul Sacrifice demo has been keeping me busy recently. Boy, am I glad that the demo has enough content and replay value to buffer the agonizing wait. Easily my most anticipated game since Gravity Daze/Rush.

Did anyone mention that apparently Alien Breed is getting a native Vita (and PS3) version, as opposed to just Playstation Mobile? Coming out in February

Most interesting part is it has co-op, including with the PS3.

* Team up on either PS3™ or PlayStation®Vita via cross-platform play
* Cross-Platform Continuation Play, carry on your PS3™ save game progress on your PlayStation®Vita, or vice versa!
* Ad-Hoc and online co-op multiplayer for PlayStation®Vita
* Local and online co-op multiplayer for PlayStation®3
* Leaderboards and trophies

The screens that were released are basically the same as the PSM version.

:P

I find the whole aspect of sales in this way interesting... it's a shame people get hung up about big early numbers and judge a games success solely on those. I mean it's really the question of what is more important, Big early sales or turning a bigger profit. A game could turn a million sales in the first 2 months but if it needed to sell 2 million copies to turn a profit is it more of a success then the game that only sold 50k copies but turned a profit?

it's just like how people get hung up on sales numbers for the consoles. does the install base factor into how likely it is your game will sell, sure. the more unique individuals that own the system the more likely there will be individuals that your game appeals to, but that is just one layer of the big gaming picture. For example people on the 360 tend to love shooters. despite the wii having a larger install base it makes way more sense to make a 360 exclusive shooter than a wii exclusive shooter. By that note even if the vita doesn't catch fire and is always far behind the 3ds, it's not like it's not likely that certain games won't sell better on the vita over the 3ds. Especially given there is a high likely hood the attach rate for the vita will be higher than the 3ds for two simple reasons. A. it's more expensive so the people who own it are more likely to have money to spend on games. and B. it's owned by an older demographic. The big sellers on the 3ds are going to be stuff that is in general rated E, and in general franchises like mario and pokemon will attract a lot of kids (they can be enjoyed by adults just fine but they are at heart kids games) the vita big sellers will likely be the more mature games rated T or above. Meaning in general it will be an older group playing them. meaning that it is completely possible that a mature game could have better sales on the vita instead of the 3ds despite the 3ds having a much larger install base.

anyways... I seem to be in a chatty mood tonight... I apologize lol.

I've been playing Table Top Ice Hockey. You can tell a European studio made it. Fans are separated (no hockey game I've been to, or seen has done that) and it's slow as hell. Like slowest hockey game ever.

It also has a trophy that requires you to play local multiplayer. Fuck you too.

Stranger's Wrath is so awesome!
I already loved that game, but it's growing even more now i'm playing it on the Vita :D
I generally don't like 'shootin, but I do like it in this game. Love those crazy chipmunks.

Weird thing though, bought the game three weeks ago. Played the tutorial, retrieved some good memories and went back to LBPV (you can't play everything :P). But I had some framerate issues, like it was switching between 30 and 40 all the time. I didn't have that now. :/

And man does this game look pretty. It already was one of the best HD'fied game on PS3, next to the MGS Collection, now it's the best on Vita. Certainly makes me wanna see more HD collection thingy's on this thing. Imagine a portable Precursor's Legacy, oh my.

Already sold my copy of Sonic Racing. It's a pretty solid game, but with a basically dead online community it eventually just becomes a boring grind through singleplayer races against the AI. The framerate issues and the somewhat related feeling of sloppiness don't help either. Would be a nice PS+ title, I think.

How do you feel it's sloppy? :/

I think it's a really solid game and the best kart racer I've played in a while. Had no frame rate issues either...
