Has it been confirmed that you'll be able to play Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 on the gamepad only?

My biggest fear going forward is that developers will underestimate how popular that feature is, and throw silly features into their games that prevent them from being played from the gamepad.

No for W101 for sure simply due to how it plays

TVii still doing the same shit FTML!

Just spent 30min on the phone with Nintendo trying to get my NNID unlinked from the old console, told me i have to wait 1-2 business days to get a call back from an ADMIN :( really hope i'm not going lose my NNID name :(

Pikmin 3 was played from the pad at E3. I'm pretty sure Wonderful 101 was played from the gamepad too because you had to draw circles using it. So unless they removed that function both games should use the gamepad.

I'm wanting to know if you can play those games from the gamepad exclusively. No tv involved.

Wonderful 101 is apparently an asymmetrical game like Nintendo Land and ZombiU, so off-TV play support seems unlikely.

Didn't know there was a demo for nba. There's also a Zombie U demo up on US eShop, sweet.

This WiiU actually makes me feel like an idiot. There are really simple interface things from the Xbox 360 and the PS3 that I simply don't know how to do on the Wii U. I'm not necessarily knocking the system because I really dig it. However, there are annoying UI/interface quirks that I'm willing to plead ignorant to, provided they're my fault...

1. So I just bought COD: Blops 2 and it's fantastic on the WiiU. However, I just wanted to EXIT the game. That's it. Exit and eject. How on earth do you do that??

a. I hit the HOME button, which seems to work on every other Wii U game, but the "You no can do that icon" came up, stopping me cold. I backed out ALL the way to the main menu within BLOPS. Nothing.

b. against my inner gamer judgment, I simply ejected the disc, which promptly told me to re-insert the disc. Didn't think that would work, but what could I do? I re-inserted for fear of breaking the damn thing.

c. thinking of no other option, I simply turned the power off via the game pad. When I turned it back on, guess what? The Blops 2 game was STILL on.

d. So i reached behind my WiiU, which seems to be the only consistent way of solving problems with the system...and i pulled the plug. Upon restarting the game, I'm back at the real WiiU home screen, and finally ejected the disc.

*****
It really shouldn't be this complicated. Any idea how I could've handled this differently?? I've owned nearly every gaming system since gaming systems began, and this is the first one that actually makes me feel incompetent. Suggestions?

This is apparently getting patched, but yes, the deactivation of the HOME button in BLOPs2 is maddening.

Option a. works (backing out to the main menu then pressing HOME). I think the HOME button only works during campaign and on this main menu.
Option c. Should work - this turns the console off then on again - returning you to the main menu

It was the same in Wii versions of the COD games.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought it was me. Since the HOME button is deactivated until patch, how are people actually exiting the game currently?? I was on the MAIN MENU and the HOME button didn't work. Maybe I'll go into CAMPAIGN and try it from there.

Either way, thanks both of you.

Is there any way to change the games tiles that show up in the plaza on your main home screen? I have a lot of games that I don't really want there that I would like to switch for others.

I don't think so. I was under the impression that they represented the most popular games/apps of Wii U's connected to the internet. Am I wrong?

I'm hoping that over time it will just show the last 10 games you've played. I really don't like the idea of seeing games that aren't available in my region.

i guess i am happy with it. But its is very odd that I feel my PS3 is more "new gen" than it. I can only imagine how Ill feel like when 720 and Orbis come out.

They are regionally sorted, no? I believe you can change your region, but don't quote me on that.

Possibly. I'm in Australia and see Trine 2 which I know is available in UK (PAL) and is not available here or in New Zealand (both PAL).

I ended up getting one on launch day for no other reason than the store I was in had one

Now I have 4 wiimotes, pro controller and 6 games (plus some eshop stuff)

It got out of hand.

I really do like it despite some issues

Ah, I think the regions are PAL, Japan, America(s?). That is awful and bizarre that you cannot get those games down under.

I also have that feeling tbh. I bought one of those new slim bundles around the same time as the Wii U and it feels way more modern than the Wii U. I've been playing Asura's Wrath, Vanquish, Bayonetta, and Persona 4: Arena on it. The games just seem more visually impressive (and have better production values), which is depressing as it came out the machine came out in 2006 and the Wii U is a product that just came out in 2012. It's honestly a similar feeling to playing my Gamecube while playing with an Xbox, the Xbox comes off as more technically impressive.

Also, why the fuck is there no easy way to stream video and turn off the Wii U game pad screen. Why do I want to drain my pad's battery with just descriptions of the videos. It sucks when I want to watch hour+ long videos on it because then I worry the battery is going to die. Why can't I just use the Wii Remote for the Wii U video apps. Since I can't use any other controllers it totally removes any possibility of me using the Wii U as a streaming device. *sigh*.

I'm getting more disappointed every day. Pikmin 3 & Monster Hunter 3 can't come soon enough.

Managed to get a new premium Wii U for 225 pounds so I figured I'd ask a few questions.

In the european eShop, are there any demos of eShop and/or retail games?

NSMBU any good? Playing NSMB2 currently but I hear U is a lot better?

And ZombiU has been getting some mixed reviews so I don't know about that. Is the action any good or do I just smash my cricket bat again and again the whole game?

NSMBU U is excellent - maybe wait on it though if you are playing 2?

There are a few demos - ZombiU, NBA and Rayman, if I recall correctly.

ZombiU is excellent but don't expect an action game. It does not - deliberately so - empower you as a player. It is a survival horror game. The action is good though, incredibly tense, and you do get better weapons than the bat, though the bat will be used a lot throughout the game.

So, I have a Japanese Wii U and have since launch, but between work and going home over the holidays I haven't played it too much until this week.

1. NSMBU is super, duper fun and, regardless of the technical increases over the Wii version, looks really good on my TV. I do wish multi-player could be played on a combo of remotes, even if I understand (maybe) why Nintendo did what they did.

2. Nintendo Land is a great idea, in theory, and while a tonne of fun, it is not going to appeal to the same demographic that Wii U Sports did.

3. Donkey Kong's Crash Course is the devil. Pikmin, Metroid, & Zelda are great multi-player co-op games. Have had a lot of fun playing them with my partner.

4. The Browser is awesome and, above all, functional. I'm so used to the 3DS browser, though, that I was surprised that the thing could use multiple tabs and I keep having to remind myself. Zooming using the right-stick is functional too, and removes any concerns I had about a lack of 'pinch-to-zoom'.

5. Miiverse is good fun, and while it's still early, I feel like it could catch on and become a really fun and important part about playing games on the system, especially when integrated well, like in NSMBU and Nintendo Land. I hope that the friends/follower limit is increased over time. The ability to check and post in foreign communities is great too. As is the ability to see who/who has not got the game.

6. The eshop in Japan is crap right now - we have no indie titles (like Chasing Aurora etc) and only the F2P version of Tank! Tank! Tank! to download other than retail games and Hulu, Youtue, and Niconico.

7. Batman performs fine for me so far (~2 hours), although I switched the system to 720P.

8. Hulu on the system is a great addition. Since it first launched here, the library has grown quite a bit and I've got quite a bit of enjoyment out of it so far.

8. Zombi U looks great from far away, but iffy close up. It's a good lot of fun though and I've been scared multiple times. Hoping for a sequel eventually!

9. I wish Nintendo would hurry up with the Virtual Console & that games I have/had for 3DS would be 'cross-buys'. I don't mind saves not carrying over, although it would be nice. Even if they didn't release all the games at once - just as they became available on the VC would be fine.

10. I wish Rayman, W101, Pikmin, and Lego would hurry up and get dates for Japan.

11. I am looking forward to trying the DQX beta, even though I've never played the series before.

12. Wish it was slightly faster to load stuff, but not having too much trouble with it. Sometimes Miiverse will load in seconds, other times it's 10+.

13. Only had one hard lock with Hulu, but that was when trying to exit the program while a video was playing so I can imagine it's a software issue for that application.

14. I hope the usage-tracker gets updated to be more robust, like the 3DS one. It's an awesome feature on that system.

15. Other than a few minor gripes, I'm really happy with what is essentially my first console purchase with my own money and I look forward to the games (1st and (maybe) 3rd party alike) that will come to the system.

I guess someone here will know the answer to this, in Europe with the whole 11PM-3AM thing can you play games outside that time or do you have to play it inside that time as well as buy it in that time?
I'm always sleeping at that time :(

if you have the home button activated that means wiiu can access to miiverse, youtube and the webbrowser while the game is being on hold. this functions uses up 1 GB of the RAM. maybe companies disabled this feature to be able to use the full 2GB?

Nice price! :)

No eShop demos yet I believe but two or three of the games have had price promos/sales so far. Current retail demos are Zombie U, Fifa and Rayman, I believe.

Can't comment on NSMBU as I've not played it.

Re ZombieU vvvvv = yes. It is a game that goes for tension and atmosphere over all out action. An encounter with even a single zombie can go seriously wrong and end in the player's death all to easily. I have played it for 70+ hours and even now can still die from such an encounter if I'm not concentrating properly. Also, even after all this time, the cricket bat usage has still not become perfunctory for me as the risk of mistiming its usage and resultant player death is always there and it is probably the most visceral killing of a NPC I have ever played in a game. It really can be quite thrilling. Further, the cricket bat is not the ideal weapon to use on more than one zombie. Even a couple of zombies at a time can be very tricky but anymore than that is just asking for fail. I know this to my own chagrin from trying to over hoard projectile weapon ammo when I first played the game. Lastly, the risk/reward from using a projectile weapon to make encounters easier but create more noise in doing so which will attract more zombies never gets old, for me.

If you are intrigued by the game you can do far worse than try the eShop demo. I played it last night and it is a decent vertical slice of the game that gives a fair representation of its experience and gameplay. It is however tweaked for ZU newbs so the demo is easier than the actual section in the full game. Probably a wise decision but still something to bear in mind.

We get FIFA rather than NBA in Yurop :).

No, it's purely to watch and/or download 18+ rated content to comply with German law. You may play the actual content whenever you like once it has downloaded. I played the Zombie U demo early evening yesterday after downloading it overnight, for example.

That would be a plausible explanation if that same game did no run fine on less than .5G RAM elsewhere. I can't imagine it requiring more than 1G on the WiiU.

Most likely the issue has to do with some networking 'non-shareability' where a game can claim exclusive access to the network (same as with the 3ds), and home menu gets disabled so you would not try to launch other network apps.

You have answered your own question there. Very early, launch software on the Wii U in comparison to a machine that has had years for the devs to get up to speed. Remember the launch 360 titles that were up-ressed XBox tech games? Remember the o/s and online functionality of the 360 and PS3 at launch in comparison to what it is now? Yes, devs and console manufacturers should do a better job of getting their shit together for launch since they know they are going to launch a new console years in advance so it is hardly a surprise. When do they ever though?

Have you tried turning the gamepad off via the home button controller options?

Now that's one thing we can agree on! :) i has three Wii U games sitting here [discounting Zombie U which I've finished the campaign of twice and am feeling rather burnt out on] and I'm not currently feeling the urge to play any of them :/.

Just tried playing the Rayman demo for the second time. Of course it prompted me that I was using one of my 30 plays for it.

Anyway, once booted it seems I cannot play it again. I have no audio, and it just keeps looping the intro video

Is this a known issue?

It's probably a lot faster to turn the console off then on again, but I usually go back to the main menu (where you can select multiplayer/campaign/zombies) then press the HOME button. Annoyingly and confusingly, to do this if you are in multiplayer, you have to select to go back to the "campaign" menu. Hope this makes sense.

Finally got TVii to work for me, this is what fixed it for me:

In order to fix this error, you should Enter DNS Settings manually:

Go to your Wii U System Settings.
Tap Internet Icon.
Tap “Connect to the Internet”.
Tap “Connections” in the top-right corner.
Select the connection you want to configure.
Tap “Change Settings.”
Tap the arrow on the right and select “DNS.”
Tap “Don’t Auto-Obtain” and enter in the DNS info as follows:
User 8.8.8.8 for Primary DNS, then press “OK” to return to the DNS screen.
Use 8.8.4.4 for Secondary DNS, then press “OK” to return to the DNS screen.
Tap “Confirm” to return to the manual settings screen.

I'm trying out the Zombi U demo and it didn't take me very long to adapt to having to switch from the TV view to the gamepad view. I guess all the hours spent on Nintendo Land do help with this after all. It has become just as natural for me as holding a classic controller or playing with a keyboard and a mouse.

I was also a bit anxious at first as I can be susceptible in motion sickness in games where you are in a succession of corridors especially if the fov is pretty low but so far so good. My guess is that the fact that the fov isn't too zoomed in so you're not staring at walls half of the time and the constant switching to the scan view helps a lot.

The demo is pretty good and has pretty much convinced me of buying the game. The emphasis is on exploration and good planning rather than pure combat. The developers seems to have nailed the survival part, it really does feel as you are barely holding on to life and that you could die at any moment and this is where the tension comes from.

A few reviews have noted issues with the touchscreen not being responsive enough. I've had no issues with this at all. It is pretty responsive, dragging and dropping items, moving items in the inventory and selecting them feels natural. The only issue I had was when I was trying to tap the small dots on the map to show scan information, sometimes this didn't feel too precise.

That is an excellent summation of the game if I may say so :). Which given you have merely played a demo means that the demo really did its job or you are an astute chap, or both :).

Glad you enjoyed it enough to encourage you to play the full game. Hope you enjoy the fear! :D

I had issues with the touch screen but the game was clearly rushed for launch so I can forgive it for that. Hopefully the game does very well and we can have a nicely polished sequel!

Better get DNS servers from your provider and enter those (for example go into a command-line by starting cmd.exe and then enter nslookup to see the DNS servers of your notebook/PC). I think Wii U has a problem getting DNS settings, not using the provider DNS servers.

If you enter 8.8.8.8, you are using google DNS servers.

Love my Wii U. Been Playing Ninja Gaiden 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Black Ops II and Zombi U recently :D

I have loved every minute with this machine.

Never heard of it being a problem.

Why did you bury this in this thread? Wii U problems get new threads all the time you'll get your answers faster.

Hm, I had this problem too. Have you tried turning the TV on? :)

I cannot stop playing this thing.

A total impulse purchase on New Years' Day, I came home and didn't even play it until the next day. And then when I played it, I didn't know what to play first, and went with the Captain Falcon game in Nintendoland. Maybe that wasn't the best choice, as I got pseudo-motion sickness and didn't find it all that impressive.

I didn't play it for three days after that, and then finally sat down for a few hours to try everything out. After that, I was hooked. Every game in Nintendoland uses the pad in a cool way, and nothing feels overly gimicky. It's just fun. Playing the multiplayer games are even better--I just wish I had it when I was younger when it was the norm to have 4 or five people over for marathon gaming sessions.

The entire experience with this console is very streamlined and impressive, and I enjoy all the small details in every corner of the OS. It's slow at times, but it's not a big deal. It's not a deal breaker by any means.

I don't know why I am writing this, but if anyone on the fence sees this and it convinces you to take the plunge, then great! I really think you'll enjoy it.

My brother got his 360 with Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo at launch-era and it was way more impressive than my OG Xbox. He never bought any of those uglier games. While the OS was really basic it was speedy and functional. That's pretty much the exact opposite of the Wii U so far. I really hope Nintendo fixes the issues, but they doesn't have the best track record in this area. Didn't it take them an eternity just to add SD card support on the Wii? I don't even think they added proper SD card support on the DSi. I have little faith when it comes to Nintendo fixing the bad Wii U OS. You shouldn't say that just because MS and Sony modernized their console's OSes means Nintendo will too. Microsoft and Sony are known to be much more competent when it comes to updating their consoles, and Nintendo is known to be pretty backwards when it comes to a lot of things, this being one of them.

Have you tried turning the gamepad off via the home button controller options?
Having to do that once I start any video is a big hassle. I'd rather just turn on a different piece of hardware then start up the Wii U if that's my only solution. Do you know if the Pro controller works with the Netflix/YouTube apps?

Now that's one thing we can agree on! :) i has three Wii U games sitting here [discounting Zombie U which I've finished the campaign of twice and am feeling rather burnt out on] and I'm not currently feeling the urge to play any of them :/.
Yeah I ended up buying a bunch of launch games and apart from Tekken I'm not feeling any of them. I'm really burnt out on Mario games as I played SM3L and NSMB2 this year, and NSMBU isn't different enough to make me care. CoD: BO2 makes me feel sick as I have really bad motion sickness with some first person games (only fast paced ones like CoD). I recently beat Super Scribblenauts on DS so I don't want to start Scribblenauts Unlimited so soon after. I really want to play Zombi U but I'm such a pussy and get scared easily. The game seems really good though.

I'm not even sure I want Pikmin 3 either, it's just there's nothing else really coming out on the console. Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is one of the few reasons I bought the console so early, along with the promise of a new 3D Mario and HD Nintendo franchises.

Listen to this man. I recommend against using Google's DNS servers in most circumstances as it usually results in you being pointed towards the wrong Akamai cache/other local caches for your region. They run a nice and fast DNS, but it can and will result in a much less pleasant Internet experience for many people.

For clarification here, the intro to the Rayman Legends demo is not gamepad-only. Once you actually start a level, then you can focus on just the GamePad if you want to, but the intro and such makes use of both screens.

I just bought darksiders 2 last night, and I am liking it so much more than I thought I would. I wanted a 3d adventure game and this game has satisfied my cravings so far.
