Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Not open for further replies.
I got a Wii U at launch and I'm definitely a fan of it. I have Nintendo Land, NSMBU, ZombiU, and Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing right now and definitely enjoy all of them.

Target has Ninja Gaiden 3 and Tekken on sale this week and I'm VERY tempted to buy them. Is NG3 really that much better than the 360/PS3 versions?

I'm not regretting my purchase.

Could the menus afford to be quicker? Yeah, probably but that's not life shattering.

ZombiU is fantastic, and I actually appreciate the smaller, lets call it...modest, launch line up.

My new generation resolution is to buy far less games anyway, so I'm happy maxing out ZombiU before moving on.

The universal remote functionality was genius.

I'm not sure if it's ever been mentioned in this thread, but it seems like the configuration of the Wii U, with GamePad and all, would allow for DS-like gameplay that we've been seeing constantly perfected on said portable over the past few years.

With that said, ZombiU has to be one of my favorite experiences of last year. Having bought a Wii U today and fiddling around with Nintendo Land's use of the GamePad as a viewport, I now can see how Nintendo feels that their product can still out maneuver the big boys. Yes, it is less powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3, but I think the thing to take from this is that the configuration of the system allows for some potentially interesting experiences. As a person who hates the word "potential" when buying a system, I hesitantly bought into the fact that I was buying this for ZombiU, and wound up getting the Nintendo Land bundle and NSMBU.

TLDR; I was a big doubter when the Wii U was announced, even used its specs against it as a means to justify me not getting it, but it simply can't be ignored that the GamePad's uniqueness and speed has the potential to have some incredible gameplay experiences that are only on Wii U. I just hope the third parties invest in it this time.

Edit: Is there a GAF community thread for Wii U owners to share Nintendo Network IDs?

Yes, it is less powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3...

Is this one of those things that gets said enough people believe it? Was it because some Digital Foundary articles talked about a few hiccups? Because that's like saying the 360 couldn't do Halo 4 because the port of GUN was average. They managed to port games from a 6-year understanding of architecture and development to a new console with the minimum of fuss and, obviously, effort.

It won't be Durango and Orbis levels, obviously, but let's not really be so asinine as to say lower than 360 levels.

Could anyone see Sony or Microsoft stealing the touchscreen idea (as they eventually stole motion controls)?

I don't want to play games without my Gamepad...

I don't see them doing it since the Wii U hasn't been a hot seller right off the bat. I believe they might have looked to see if it would be a factor going in to the next generation and it is not likely to happen.

The Universal remote is so sweet. I love how I can never lose it when the regular tv controller goes missing. Would love to see an update that adds menu and cursor buttons.

I only played a demo version of NG3 on the 360 and from that alone, I can say it's much better. I found the version on 360 to be a headache with the crazy cameras and the crappy QTE's. Plus I could never tell if an enemy was dead. Now I can tell when I decapitate them or give them some other horrible death. It's not perfect but I really am enjoying it.

No, it's not.
A few trolls repeating this nonsense constantly on GAF doesn't make it true.

Playing Excite Truck with the slightly improved image quality on Wii U is not what makes this game feels fresh again. It's just that it is an amazing racer, even by today's standards. On my way to complete it a second time :)

So yeah, USB Loader on Wii U makes me like the console even more.

Games I've finished the single player portion of on Wii U;

Zombi U
Assassin's Creed 3
Ninja Gaiden 3RE
Black Ops 2
Darksiders 2

This wouldn't have been possible in such a short time without off TV play.

I probably have a roughly equal amount of time sunk into the multiplayer and challenge modes on various titles as well.

So, do you guys think I'm satisfied with my purchase? Hurhur...

I was organising my games last night, and I turns out I have more retail Wii U games bought in six weeks than retail Vita games bought in ten months. I have a smattering of PS1 Classics I've bought for the Vita, and Gravity Rush as a PS+ freebie, but that's it, really.

I don't know about the longevity of the console, but I'm happy enough with it so far. ZombiU is enough to convince me that the GamePad was a great idea; without it, it might not have been one of the best survival horror games in years.

All of this talk of slow loading times is insanely exaggerated. I literally haven't even noticed it. If some of you nerds have a stopwatch and are comparing it to an Xbox, yer it might be slower, but rest assured for anyone who hasnt yet tried a Wii U, its all complaining about nothing.

100%'d NSMBU the other night. Need money. Its a good Mario game, but not one I can see myself playing again.

Where's the best value for a cash trade in? I know CeX give £22 for it.

Bought one for my daughter (and me) for christmas. Bought more games for this at launch than any other system. Counting Nintendoland I got 6 games, usually get one or two at launch. Played about 6 hours of Zombi U, haven't gotten too far yet, few levels of BLOPS2 and a few rounds of multiplayer, got though the first 2 levels of Mario, played a little Nintendoland and still have yet to take the wrapper off Assassins Creed 3. Only game I haven't played is Just Dance 4 because well, no one wants to see that.

Overall so far I'm happy with it, have yet to have a lockup or game crash like others. Can't wait to see games truely made from the ground up for this thing.

My brother got his 360 with Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo at launch-era and it was way more impressive than my OG Xbox. He never bought any of those uglier games. While the OS was really basic it was speedy and functional. That's pretty much the exact opposite of the Wii U so far. I really hope Nintendo fixes the issues, but they doesn't have the best track record in this area. Didn't it take them an eternity just to add SD card support on the Wii? I don't even think they added proper SD card support on the DSi. I have little faith when it comes to Nintendo fixing the bad Wii U OS. You shouldn't say that just because MS and Sony modernized their console's OSes means Nintendo will too. Microsoft and Sony are known to be much more competent when it comes to updating their consoles, and Nintendo is known to be pretty backwards when it comes to a lot of things, this being one of them.

Well past performance is not necessarily indicative of future performance but I would not criticise your cynicism in this particular matter. I was merely pointing out that the Wii U's issues i.e. lack of games, lack of ZOMGIMUSTBUYTHISNAO!!!! games and nascent o/s and online are typical of a just launched system. I think that's fair comment. We'll see where they go from here. I prefer to keep an open mind and keep my fingers crossed whilst not holding my breath as I know their past performance in these matters is not exemplary but each to their own :).

Having to do that once I start any video is a big hassle. I'd rather just turn on a different piece of hardware then start up the Wii U if that's my only solution. Do you know if the Pro controller works with the Netflix/YouTube apps?

I see. I have not used that option as I have not had a use for it but at least you are aware of it even if you choose not to use it. I have no knowledge about the pro controller at all, sorry.

Yeah I ended up buying a bunch of launch games and apart from Tekken I'm not feeling any of them. I'm really burnt out on Mario games as I played SM3L and NSMB2 this year, and NSMBU isn't different enough to make me care. CoD: BO2 makes me feel sick as I have really bad motion sickness with some first person games (only fast paced ones like CoD). I recently beat Super Scribblenauts on DS so I don't want to start Scribblenauts Unlimited so soon after. I really want to play Zombi U but I'm such a pussy and get scared easily. The game seems really good though.

I share your feeling about 2D Mario games. I bought the recent 3DS game and haven't really ever got into it. I don't have motion sickness thankfully but I've tried a couple of COD games in the past and decided that they're just not my sort of game. ZombieU is very good despite its technical issues. Is there a demo on the eShop in your region? That gives a decent taste of what the full game is like. Nothing wrong with being scared in a game! :) In fact, in ZU that's where a lot of the enjoyment comes from. It's often an uncomfortable edgeofmyseatohmygodIcoulddieatanymomentifImessup feeling but it can be very satisfying as a result.

I'm not even sure I want Pikmin 3 either, it's just there's nothing else really coming out on the console. Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is one of the few reasons I bought the console so early, along with the promise of a new 3D Mario and HD Nintendo franchises.

Both of those are on my 'want' list together with Aliens, hoping that that one is good. However my 'meh' feeling about games is not necessarily a fault of the Wii U per se as I often get this. When this happens I just do other things with my time instead. I've got lots done on my 'to do' list since I stopped playing ZU :). In a few days, hopefully, I'll fire up a 'new' game and I'll be off again.

Buying the premium package and buying most games through the eShop got me two codes worth 5€ for which I bought Little Inferno, which made me very happy :)
(Yay for Premium Payback Stuffy Stuff!)

Seriously, Little Inferno is great, although way too short. The fire physics are awesome and there's actually a small story in there, too.
It never was more fun to burn stuff in your fireplace :)

I'm in love with my system, got it at the launch in NY... but, just like the Wii, i'm sad about the shop. Thing is, i'm Brazilian and i got back to Brazil last Sunday to confirm i can't use my credit card to buy stuff from the store.

Does the GAF hive-mind knows a way around it? maybe a service where i can buy prepaid cards and get the codes only?

Thanks in advance.

Are you saying you can't use your card on the Brazil store, or the US store?

If you want to buy a prepaid card, go to maximuscards.com. They email you the code.

The better option, is to use the Canada store. It should accept international cards. You just have to enter a random post code and it works.

Haven't gone a day without turning on the Wii U. Be it play NSMBU with the GF (who's a big fan of the game), ZombiU Demo, Sonic Racing Demo, or as my go-to Netflix/Hulu device. I'm playing with it more than I did with the Wii at launch.

Nintendo definitely has something here. I can only hope that E3 will reveal more goodies, particularly the Wii U Virtual Console, which I'm most interested in. That, in addition to my Wii backlog that includes Xenoblade Chronicles and Last Story, I'll have enough to satisfy my gaming appetite for the entire first half of 2013.

PS: no hard locks yet. I think the previous update might have helped.

I've had the system since launch.

I'm mostly fine with the system, although I hope that future firmwares decrease the load time between apps and games. The gamepad is comfortable and easy to use. I'll definitely be looking into that Nyko high-capacity battery, though. I purchased it with Nintendoland and SMBU. I don't have anyone to play local multi with so Nintendoland is kind of boring. They really should have put online in that game. The single player versions of those games are reminiscent of smartphone games and I don't like those either. So I'll be selling that soon. NSMBU is pretty good, actually, and the only thing I'm really playing on it.

Overall they just need to get some more exclusive games out for the thing and I'll be happy. I know those will come over time so I'm not worried. I don't care about the third party situation since I buy all multiplats for PC or Xbox anyway. PS3 and Wii(U) are for exclusives only.

That's about as much as you can expect. You'd do much better selling it locally (£30 if in mint condition).

anyone know whats up with ninja gaiden 3 in the UK? its not available to buy on amazon, hmv says it isn't released yet (but had it in store saying 'releases 11/1/2013', but no stock), and it doesn't appear in the Europe miiverse.

It is in the eshop, but only available to buy from 11pm to 3am, and costs £50 which is crazy.

is there a disc release or not?

ShopTo and Game claim to have it in stock.

Better get DNS servers from your provider and enter those (for example go into a command-line by starting cmd.exe and then enter nslookup to see the DNS servers of your notebook/PC). I think Wii U has a problem getting DNS settings, not using the provider DNS servers.

If you enter 8.8.8.8, you are using google DNS servers.

Just tried that and got this:

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

I must say, I'm shocked, the Pro Controller is a thing of beauty. The rumble is great and nuanced, the ergonomics are perfect, the dpad is the best I've ever controlled.

Hopefully someone will write PC drivers for this thing as I seriously love it.
Also the batteries are seriously long living. I was doubtfull, but from my current experiment (playing COD exclusively with it for a time) I got 36 hours and it's not barely at half charge.

Comparing that to the measily 20 hours i get from a DS3 it's just great.

The banned site has put up a release date for Bayonetta 2, June 14th. They seem pretty confident, even offering £5 if the game doesn't make that date...

Enjoying the console and Mii verse etc.
however I have a question.

Whenever I press the home button on the gamepad a header pops up.
"You have recently downloaded content" or something like that. Is anyone else getting this message? It won't go away. Also pressing on the message doesn't take you anywhere. It's getting on my nerves like a "you've won an Ipad" sort of vibe.

I did download FIFA demo, a week ago. Hardly recent.

Anyone else getting this?

Nice price! :)

No eShop demos yet I believe but two or three of the games have had price promos/sales so far. Current retail demos are Zombie U, Fifa and Rayman, I believe.

Can't comment on NSMBU as I've not played it.

Re ZombieU vvvvv = yes. It is a game that goes for tension and atmosphere over all out action. An encounter with even a single zombie can go seriously wrong and end in the player's death all to easily. I have played it for 70+ hours and even now can still die from such an encounter if I'm not concentrating properly. Also, even after all this time, the cricket bat usage has still not become perfunctory for me as the risk of mistiming its usage and resultant player death is always there and it is probably the most visceral killing of a NPC I have ever played in a game. It really can be quite thrilling. Further, the cricket bat is not the ideal weapon to use on more than one zombie. Even a couple of zombies at a time can be very tricky but anymore than that is just asking for fail. I know this to my own chagrin from trying to over hoard projectile weapon ammo when I first played the game. Lastly, the risk/reward from using a projectile weapon to make encounters easier but create more noise in doing so which will attract more zombies never gets old, for me.

If you are intrigued by the game you can do far worse than try the eShop demo. I played it last night and it is a decent vertical slice of the game that gives a fair representation of its experience and gameplay. It is however tweaked for ZU newbs so the demo is easier than the actual section in the full game. Probably a wise decision but still something to bear in mind.

We get FIFA rather than NBA in Yurop :).

No, it's purely to watch and/or download 18+ rated content to comply with German law. You may play the actual content whenever you like once it has downloaded. I played the Zombie U demo early evening yesterday after downloading it overnight, for example.

Okay, that's dumb but not that bad.
Thanks!

Have you accessed your download manager? Doing so might resolve the issue.

Press the blue download arrow after hitting home. Check to see if there is an item pending installation.
