I was going to respond with thinking I had seen this fact somewhere, either in an early anime episode from Gen1 or something.

But this explains it much better than I would have described.

To me, a rival doesn't have to look like he got ripped out from some angsty RPG. These Hoenn guys fit the "nice guy" bill perfectly, and it was a nice change of pace.

No I agree and hence why I liked Pearl(Barry), Grey(Hugh), Bianca and Cheren.

But the problem is that the Hoenn rival don't do anything that make them feel like a Rival.

May was basically a combination of Dawn and Blue and would have been a good rival but some reason she just gives up and flies home.

Furthermore she doesn't evolve her Starter all the way and can't be re battle but yet Wally can despite the fact you battle May more than that wimpy kid.

Wally however is far worse since he is basically the guy who teaches you how to catch a pokémon, once Wally catches his Ralt he just walks off and you don't see until Mauville City where he challenges you to a battle.

After that you don't see him again, unless you visit his Uncle's house in Verdanturf Town, until Victory Road where he battles you.

Compares to the others rival He makes very little impact hell he doesn't even have a rival music and is why I don't consider him as a rival, he's basically N but done wrong.

Which is why I am hoping that if Hoenn ever does get a remake they fix it so that Wally's story is at least fleshed out and actually battles you more than 2 and that May actually evolves her starter and re-battles you.

I love how Poke Balls are smaller in the game art than in the anime. In the anime, I've always thought that Poke Balls were quite beastly:

They grow in size when ready for battle, actually. They start out small and increase in size before they're thrown. I don't know why, but this is what I've observed from the anime.

You know the detail I liked in the manga? When the tops of pokeballs were seethrough so your pokemon could look up with you. I dunno I liked that from a interacting point of view.

yeh I know. Plenty of time to see if you're worth keeping around by the mods. If you get banned as a junior you're fucked permanently so better not get emotionally invested for the next 3 months. Try to keep a low profile is all I can say :P

Well I'm a quiet person, so it should be -hopefully- ok.

When we get to best Elite 4 member, I just want to say I once waged war with tiggerkiddo over Shauntal vs Caitlin. I fought bravely for Caitlin, but I think I was defeated in the end.

There is A LOT of fanart in the Community thread for those two. Hahaha. Starting here and going for another 100+ posts.

Hey guys, remember when Ash used to catch Pokémon? Yeah I don't either.

They should bring that back. After all, it is one of the fundamental aspects of the whole idea of it. Instead all he does is find a new friend in some wild Pokémon who then wants to come along or wants a fight to get "captured". So lame. Seeing that concept art of Pokéballs above makes me miss seeing Ash find a wild Pokémon and try to catch it. There's no tension or suspense anymore. You know the ball will bong these days because the Pokémon want to tag along...

On topic, go Chespin! That gif is amazing.

And thus this will be the first time I've touched a Pokemon game and completed it since the original red version. Now I need to pick up a 3DS before this game comes out. ^_^
