Well, I think that before adding new types, they must add some new type combinations. I mean, Gen 5 was all about balancing the until-then under represented Bug type.
But I think that if Gen 6 brings more pokemon with some atypical combinations like fire-psychic (we've seen ghost-fire and ghost-water in Gen 5) and some new pokemon evolutions to past gen pokemons it will be enough for me in terms of innovation.
And of course, new attacks and new abilities. I can't think of a new meta-game addition to perfect the battle system. Maybe that the status-changing attacks get affected by their types?

Well in the press release they did mention new battle mechanics and kept emphasizing growing a stronger bond with your pokemon. So maybe happiness or something somehow affects stats now.

Damnit fan art is starting to make me like yveltal more than xerneas. Im still Team X and Chespin though. Granted I was team fennekin but fan art made me quickly switch over to Chespin.

There's a massive visual overhaul to the battles. It's just as likely to refer to the aesthetic restructure as it is a mechanical one.

We just have nothing to go on at this point.

If I had to place bets, I'd say that "new battle structure" is definitely just referring to the 3D.

To me, this just reads like a euphemism for the pokemon leveling up. :\

I'm sure the core of the battle system will be the same as ever, four attack slots, type matchups, abilities, etc...anything with "strengthening the bonds" would probably go towards more of the non-combat goals, stuff like the pokemon contests or whatever else they come up with this time around.

I dunno, most of the Steel combos I've seen are easy to take down. And said three powerful types are the common ones anyway.

In any case I agree with Berordn that GF generally wisens up with each gen for moves and type combo.

But yeah, legacy hurts them with their move/ability balancing (stealth rock anyone?)

Types are fine the way they are. If further balancing is necessary it needs to take the form of new techniques and abilities.

I wouldn't mind say, Bug or Poison having a weakness/ineffective removed or something. They need everything they can get since they're so low.

Any bug pairing with anything other than flying or rock is usually pretty decent. Bug/Steel is strong and Scizor tends to be a centralizing force no matter what metagame you're playing, Heracross fears flying types but still packs a wallop, Volcarona is... well anything short of amazing doesn't describe her well enough.

Poison could use a little help, but with a good pairing or with a good ability, it'd see usage. Take Toxicroak, who spends his free time destroying lifelong dreams.

The new male mc literally looks like an ugly Hilbert with disastrous hair, and his ingame model looks awful

They hit perfection with both characters in BW, and it all crashed into the side of a mountain with BW2. The new female isn't that bad, at least.

Stuff like this really gets a cynical eyebrow-raise out of me. I don't know that anybody felt "overwhelmed" by the way the initial trailer looked, but the one that really gets to me is door #3. So we get to...feel as if we're playing with other people? The internet is a very capable thing, here, what would have been wrong with actually playing with other players? All this does is confirm to me a lack of co-op like some people here had been discussing, and that any sort of worldwide battling tool will probably treat it like previous games, where you can upload your team for other people to battle with but won't actually duel live with people unless you link to them specifically.

I'd like to hope I'm just reading into this too much, but...

The game fills you in a bit, and Version 2 doesn't have much story to it.

Black and White have a pretty predictable story anyway, it's mostly the way the game presents it that's interesting.
