Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

AC3L is one of my favorite Vita titles. I don't know, I'm not as big into JRPGs and stuff. I prefer western console experiences and the Vita suits those well.

So many decent games get snubbed and slagged here. I don't have lower standards, but I feel certain titles are too harshly derided and written off. NGS+, CoDBLOPSD, AC3L, Sonic Transformed, Resistance, NFSMW and such come to mind.

You have very similar tastes in games to me. I haven't played a lot of AC3L (although I have it), but I much prefer western titles, which is why I think Vita's lineup is superior for me to 3DS's and continues to be in the known future.

So much knowledge to take in with HSG. Too bad my heads exploded and I'm still hitting bunkers on this second course. SMH.

Yep, HSG looks like a "casual" game, but it's actually "hardcore". It's pretty difficult, and it requires alot of skill. And it's quite punishing if you accidentally hit the ball in a bunker, or water, or out of bounds. That's how golf is in real life, though. You should consider playing it safe, and aim for a shorter distance if it means there's a better chance of landing on the fairway. Good luck!

(analysis clipped)

Everyone who worked on this game is to blame for their bad judgement.

You have many valid points in your great critique of the game. (Even supported by screenshots, Vita rocks for this!)

However, I take a bit of offense to the last comment. (Quoted above)

To ship anything (including a bad/mediocre game like this!) is a HUGE accomplishment in itself.

Don't rush to proclaim the entire dev team to have poor judgement, when the odds are it's only a small portion of the team that messed it all up. Not everyone who works on a dev team has equal say in every decision.

Unfortunately, it seems that some fundamentally bad decisions were made on ACL, and those decisions were bad enough to leave many players disappointed.

Yes, big decisions about development (like the dynamic shadows you pointed out hurt the performance) are usually made by multiple people. But sometimes they are dictated by only a couple of people at the top. Many small decisions, made by only one or two people, can also add up to a big difference in the quality of the game, for good or bad.

You paint everyone on that dev team as "to blame for their bad judgement" in making a game that's "janky", "gimmicky" "tedious", and "hilariously ill-designed". That's just not fair to those people.

Whoa, just platinum'd Sound Shapes, HOLY SHIT! I loved the game until Death mode, it was challenging, but after spending An hour or two on Galaxoids, I got fed up. Stuck with it, felt good to get the double plat.

Gravity Rush is next, I think. I cant find a copy of New Little King Story, which sucks. I saw one a few weeks ago, but I hadnt decided if I wanted a Vita at that stage. Loving this system!!

Friend me anyone : Abylim

Well, I finally unlocked a character beyond Yamato and the beginner girl. Tried training mode and keep WOOP! WOOP! WOOP! *doesn't go in* backdoor putting the cup. Which annoys the hell out of me. Still can't read the putting grid at all to great effect. :(

Also, how does Remote play work? Can I play PS3 games on my vita? I tried it out, and all I get is "Content Cannot be played in remote play." Am I doing something wrong?

I'm looking it up as we speak but not finding a lot of info.

Only a few games support it. Basically PSX games and some PSN games.

Oh man, yeah, putting is super difficult. I think that's true in real life, too.

I find it easier to putt uphill than downhill. When putting downhill, you have to tap the ball lightly and let it roll slowly, which means it will be more heavily influenced by the topography. That's all I can think of.

Well that and I still can't multi-task on spinning during the shot. I hold the button and forget to tap for impact (so I cancel my shot) or I tap my spin and then can't perfect impact. ARGH.

I prefer western games too but AC was just not very good. For all its production values it runs bad and is way too shallow for all the jank it has. It's a lot like the console games there.

I feel like it could have been a lot better with six months extra development time.

I also agree about a few points for AC3. Game did not needed gimicks: letter opening, light puzzles, gyro movements, back panel rowing [but that can be avoided] etc. But touching enemies to select target was cool and amazing.

Also self shadowing was not required. Game was good for a handheld! The vast size of bayou and the town and all those side missions were fun.

Multiplayer is shit and grinding. I am on level 7 now and have no intention to continue playing. Having all the other trophies only this one is left. :(

It probably would have. At the very least it wouldn't have been so buggy maybe. It definitely still would have had all the problems that all of the AC games have though because that's just how they make those games.

On another note I'm definitely getting into Persona a lot more. It has a lot of little charming moments where even though the game is written in a very simple manner it's easy to enjoy in a lighthearted way. I'm already in November though :(

edit: Well "already" isn't the best choice of word I guess. I am 51 hours in after all lol.

How is the Metal Slug Anthology on Vita? It has a few rough reviews, but for fans of the series, is it worth it? I'm on a Metal Slug kick right now.

Also tried Sine Mora demo again today. Man do the dpad controls suck. This does not bode well for playing with an arcade stick on the PS3.

It'll take you like 6 hours. You have to do like 400-700 battles. It's doable but boring. Do it while watching TV or something to get your mind off the mindnumbingness of it.

ACL is a better "game" than AC3. After coming off the later, ACL was the best game ever made to me. I liked it enough to get an improved sequel down the road.

Alright, let's do a MotorStorm RC tournament and I'll update with scores here and maybe do a video of the stage so people outside knows what's up.

What stage should we compete on? I recommend one of the earlier stages/events so all people will have acces. It should also be of the type: Time Attack. Are we doing it through the campaign or isn't there a separate Time Attack mode if I remember correctly?

You should add those who want to compete on your friend list so that you can keep up with the scoreboard.

The plan is to keep it going for 1 week.

I'll join up

Ugh, I can't get past these bunkers without a +1/+5 stroke count. I really don't want to unlock easy mode, but maybe I need to unlock it until I unlock better characters and clubs. D:

P4G complete with true ending. Will do a max social link run for new game plus.

Time to go back to LBP for a while.

What's the benefit of a max social link run other than seeing every character's side story? Is there a greater....thing? I ask this because I am in October on my first run and have 2 of the mains maxed with 3 more at 8, and a few of the side characters at a high level but others at a very low level. I feel I can max a lot of them but some of them I just don't find interesting

Did anyone else know that Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus 2 is coming out next month? I had no idea until I saw it listed on Best Buy.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Ninja+Gaiden+Sigma+2%2B+-+PS+Vita/7501041.p;jsessionid=9E97D286999AA8346E3D4BEFFB0A89F5.bbolsp-app03-37?id=1218848529457&skuId=7501041&st=ninja%20gaiden%20sigma%20plus%202&lp=1&cp=1

I didn't see it posted here on GAF, or maybe I missed it.

Anyway, I may pick it up. Never played NG2, so I guess now's the best time for it.

oh noes, and there is Sly, haven't finished p4g too

I actually just bought it again having prior owned it on PSP.

Basically from what I remember, the criticisms of it were against it's then UMD based loadtimes. Once you ripped it via CFW, it was pretty much non-existant. Same goes now with Vita. Looks absolutely glorious on dat OLED too.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

SHIT Sly too. Yeah, that's getting pushed back for me. God damn this quarter is too brutal. I hope these asshole publishers all get fewer sales than they were expecting; there needs to be some lesson learned about loading EVERYTHING into the span of a couple months.

So do you guys think the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus OT would benefit from a section for beginners?
Outlining basic strategies and things like on-landing ultimate techniques.

Or should I not go through the effort since nobody reads OTs anymore?

EDIT: I remember asking this before
a month or two ago
, but I think now is a good time with recent interest in NGS2+.

Don't do it,not many would read the OT.

to be honest, I doubt there will be many people playing Ninja Gaiden for the first time with NGS2+

it might be a nice gesture, but probably unnecessary

Vitabros I nave a questione for LBPV players: si there a quick way to make your level being visited by fifty players? I need to gran the last trophy in order to grab the platinum one ^_^

It's like comparing Morrowind (Uncharted) to Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (Assassin's Creed Liberation). I'm exaggerating, but there's a massive difference in quality between both games.
.
Meh, Assassin's Creed is an open-world game and it suffers from open-world game problems (that usually get patched a few times, but Liberation probably won't given the platform it's on), the fact that a probably small team could get a game like Liberation with as few compromises on Vita as they did with the small budget they probably had is pretty remarkable. It's a decent enough version of Assassin's Creed with some silly touchscreen & other gimmicks. If you want to experience a TRULY horrible POS handheld Assassin's Creed, try the PSP game Bloodlines. Liberation can be argued to be a mediocre game, but it's still very much a playable game that a lot of people could find some enjoyment in. Bloodlines is shit through 'n through.

Anyone have some serious issues with sonic all stars when it comes to water? Half the time my boat flips when I land a jump, it's incredibly annoying. Granted there is very few characters that do this but it's really annoying while trying to level every character up while completing the world tour. It's by far the worse when playing as beat, but others do it as well.

Also, without reading fully through the OT and this thread, is ragnarok odyssey worth a purchase? THe reviews are extremely polarized and since I'm a loot whore I think I might enjoy it ( until I import pso2 hopefully). Is there still an online community?

There is a semi alternate ending, certain extra scenes and a bonus dungeon tied to maxing specific social links in golden. If you're not striving to do everything possible ( make all the personas) and see every side story there's nothing wrong with not having all the links maxed out by the end of the game. I didn't do everyone my first time, just the people I was most interested in and the person necessary for bonus dungeon. I want to do an everyone maxed run for new game + because I am curious about the stories I didn't see the first time around.

A nearby game store has SH: Book of Memories on sale and I was wondering if it had any redeeming qualities. I'm not the hugest Silent Hill fan (I like the games, but don't have the guts to actually play them), so the lack or a horror game feel isn't a deal breaker for me.
