VGLeaks Durango specs: x64 8-core CPU @1.6GHz, 8GB DDR3 + 32MB ESRAM, 50GB 6x BD...

Without a significant time to market or price advantage, I doubt Microsoft will find a lot of third party exclusives that are even for sale. Certainly not from the big publishers, or even from most major independent developers. Maybe they can find some more marginal projects and teams to fund, but they'll be defacto 2nd party titles and not sure fire hits from "big" names.

Oh man so there's no way this Durango project is a good thing for Microsoft, right?

I still believe there are many aspects to the hardware story that we have yet to unover before passing judgement on either machine...

I have a feeling Durango will end up far better than what the majority expects...

Follow your own advice.

I could start a list war to prove my point but that would be off-topic.

Fact is that Sony improved the first party output in the last 7 years that they are in a different league now than Microsoft. Microsoft would need to pay a lot for many exclusive deals and that would destroy the point of the entire new system if the leaks are true.

As much as we do not like it, this makes great business sense for MS. Kinect Dance, karaoke and party games along with DLC will be a big part of any new xbox launch. It has been clear for years now that MS wants to chase some of that family Wii market, which is possible with the WiiUs lack of impact on the market.

Saying all that I will buy the new xbox at some point, but looking at the studios developing exclusives for each console, it looks like the PS4 will be my first next gen console.

This sums up my feelings except I probably will still get the new xbox at launch and ride it out and maybe a ps4 at launch as well. Then I won't be sad.

i didnt, i said including cell and its related stuff, would be, not to mention different manufacturer of GPU to add to back comapt issues
Including Cell on its own shouldn't affect Sony to be honest - they already produce it for PS3, and it has obviously got cheaper to produce, and should continue to do so. Provided they produce it in large enough quantities they could probably include it in PS4, but it'd undoubtedly raise the price of the console for customers and they'd have to be careful of that.

I can't see them going for both Cell and RSX for BC - they'll either start making that USB stick they patented (which would be my preferred solution) or implement Gaikai in some way.

Moneyhatting.

This is true..., up to a point. Sony simply has the superior infrastructure when it comes to developing and publishing first party titles.

MS will always have bundles of cash to spend but Sony's first party group will be their strongest asset in this upcoming gen.

Last time I visited this thread it was all wizard jizz talk, now it is MS is doomed. What happened?

This is what GAF is like during new hardware launches.

Give it a few hours and MS will be winning next gen hands down again.

You have no way of knowing how things could turn out in the 8th gen though. Zipper Interactive was considered to be a talented dev last gen. Where is the studio now?

Edit: I don't want to start a a list war. I'm just pointing out that anything could happen.

Yes but by losing the "better multiplatform version most of the time" card they will be in an even worse position as far as the core audience goes in the majority of Europe as they lose a selling point.

Also keep in mind that besides the UK the rest of Europe severely lacks features in Live, marketing is weak and Xbox as a whole is way behind in brand recognition when compared to the Playstation here.

By not caring for this they simply make their platform less charming to a market that's not the most friendly to them.

I think Europe will be MS goal next gen. Phil Harrison is probably going to play a pivotal role as to how Microsoft can push their philosophy in Europe. I still believe MS has to drop their paywall in order to see greater profits for their ecosystem in the US and Europe.

What does Zipper have to do with anything we're discussing?

What happened to Bungie?

Chelsea won the Champions League and were knocked out of the competition this year before Xmas.

So what?

Many people in this thread are acting like these rumors are facts. Might want to wait till we get the real specs before we decide the winner of next gen.

This is a copy+paste out of documentation folks.

May not be the newest documentation, but much as with their Wii U copy+paste job, it isn't made up.

Not really. 6-8 SPEs at 28nm would take up a pretty modest amount of die space on the APU. They wouldn't even need to expose it to developers, just provide audio, video and other features with an API. You could get audio processing, video scaling, compression, decompression, free MLAA, or even accelerated physics all for "free", plus backwards compatibility and robust security.

Yeah, including not the whole PPE + SPEs but just the SPEs may be feasible and would add a lot of raw power to the console.

and even then most of us won't be able to understand what that'll mean for games. So lets just wait for those.
