Pidgeot's DP sprite really wanted me to find a use for him, but it's outclassed no matter what it does. It doesn't help that all three of its abilities are crap. Amusingly, it's one of the few Pokemon to receive Hurricane. In my fantasy world where they reconfigure base stats in Gen VI, I hope Pidgeot is usable. :P

Several reasons

1) Pidgeot's stats:

HP: 83
Atk: 80
Def: 75
SpA: 70
SpD: 70
Spe: 91

Pidgeot's stat spread was clearly meant to be "balanced" but because of its pathetically low base stat total (469) Pidgeot doesn't end up excelling at ANYTHING. It's hopelessly outclassed by nearly every single bird Pokemon. Even Fearow is better (I had this huge debate about this with my bro when we were kids) because it has optimized stats.
I'm not asking it to have fucking Garchomp's stat total, but GF easily could have given this thing 500 or even 490 BST. It's base stats are poorly optimized too. Even the Unova reboot of Pidgeot had the sense to pick between physical & special attack. No, Pidgeot fails at BOTH. Name a fully evolved Pokemon, and it usually has SOMETHING to offer. Hell, we brought up Pinsir earlier. Sure it's hopelessly outclassed by Heracross, but it's still a passable Pokemon.

2) Useless abilities:

All 3 of its abilities (Keen Eye, Tangled Feet, Big Pecks) are practically useless. Most Pokemon have at least ONE useful ability (usually via Dreamworld ability) but Pidgeot was cursed with a crappy set of abilities. As if it wasn't enough that it had to have bad stats, GF didn't throw it a bone with abilities either.

3) Underwhelming movepool:

Pidgeot doesn't get anything special. It gets 2 of the strongest flying type moves (Brave Bird & Hurricane) but it doesn't have the stats to use them, otherwise its movepool is meh.

There's hope for most of the Pokemon in this game. Either via stats, moves or abilities. I think it's admirable that GF has given some old Pokemon new life with smart additions to their repertoire. Pidgeot is simply not one of those Pokemon. Pidgeot is an example of GF doing NOTHING, WHATSOEVER to make a Pokemon viable in ANY way. It offends me how bad this thing is from a gameplay standout, and it saddens me because Pidgeot used to be one of my favorite Pokemon as a child. I was the happiest kid when my Pidgeot learned Mirror Move, I thought it was practically unbeatablem but it turns out Pidgeot is among the worst of the worst ;-;

Maybe Pidgeot will be the only Pokemon to receive the awesome new ability, Windy Day, which automatically starts a Tailwind when the Pokemon enters the field. It would make him less than useless in doubles anyway..
Still not great ;_;

Even the anime seemed to upgrade the regional birds along with their progression in the games.

Pidgeotto and Noctowl barely did anything major in the show (Pidgeotto I don't think ever won a fight?), but Swellow and Staraptor kicked ass.

And then they got to sucky Unfezant and had it barely do anything once more.

This just means we need a pseudo-legendary bird. Cockatrice? Falcon? Garuda? Dragon Bird? etc.

And yeah fucking Unfeazant sucks. Then again the "best" bird in Gen V was fucking Braviary.

FUCK YEAH BRAVIARY

I really like Mandibuzz
And even Swanna
, but I wish it had a better support move pool to go with its stats. Not that Dark / Flying typing screams defense anyway though.

On the older generation of birds, I always thought of Pelipper as the regional bird of Hoenn more than Swellow. But I don't have any love for Swellow and I like Pelipper quite a bit, so there's that.
Noctowl was always a cool Pokemon in my eyes, but its movepool really wants it to be Psychic / Flying. But of course, Xatu pulled that off wonderfully. I guess I just don't hate many Pokemon. :P

I want to see Delibird get a buff. Little guy needs it.

Oh so Gamefreak is coming up with a bunch of new abilities for almost every single Pokemon? AWESOME

Need to post some actual damage calculations.
I don't believe you.

Adamant Delibird with Hustle holding Choice Band, neutral natures for defenders.

Brick Break vs 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar 95.05% to 112.87% HP damage
Ice Shard vs 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp 98.88% to 117.32% HP damage
Seed Bomb vs 252 HP / 0 Def Swampert 109.9% to 129.7% HP damage
Aerial Ace vs 4 HP / 0 Def Heracross 212.58% to 250.33% HP damage

Or if you are a real boss, you Sub Punch with Delibird.

Note: Delibird may require 1) Team support in the way of Tailwind and paralysis support. And 2) Big Balls.

Hustle is really an amazing ability
Delibird is killing all those Pokemon for 4x damage and barely killing most.
. It can even turn a Raticate into a killing machine. My favourite is Entrainment Durant making Archeop's ability Hustle and then crushing a lot as I proceed to miss all my Rock Slides. Gravity and Evasion lowering / Accuracy raising moves could help a bit, but that's a lot of setup.

guys. guys.

OH GOD YES CHESPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN. This animation confirms that I have I have made the best decision.
If they screw up its evolutions I will cry a thousand tears.

Ho. Lee. Shit.

That's amazing.

Golbat used to freak me out so much as a kid and it was all because of that sprite ._.

Definitely one of the best. I really don't like Combee though, it looks really, really wierd. Why can't it just have one face? It would be cute then :|

All this fanart for Chespin is making me want to raise one due to it being just adorable. I was going to go with Fennekin or Froakie.

Dreamworld-Ability? What does it mean?

Pokemon gotten through the Dream World in B/W or B2/W2 have an ability that they can't be found with normally in the game. This allows for some Pokemon to get interesting abilities that they normally don't have.

This is called Hidden Abilities.

That's a fan name for Hidden Abilities, due to the fact that they were only really accessible via the Dream World. They're a special, third, ability that usually allows for massive new strategies. For example, Venusaur gets Chlorophyll.

Pokémon with them can be obtained the following ways:
A few in-game (Darmanitan/Musharna in BW, Eevee/Deerling/Mandibuzz/Braviary/Jellicent in B2W2)
Hidden Grottos in Black 2 & White 2
The Dream World
Pokémon Global Link Events
Pokémon Dream Radar

We've got them all listed at my site, but I don't believe it's right for me to advertise it

I was a hipster and used Fearow.

I used Fearow too. Mostly because it introduced me to Mirror Move, which I found cool at the time.

I don't think I've ever raised one of the token bird line in any game until my current White 2 game. Now that I think about it, when did I even capture that Pidove anyway?

Even though most gen 1 sprites were yucky, I still think Nidoking and Gyarados look pretty cool:

I dropped Pidgeot for Articuno in Yellow... can't even remember my team in Red other than Charizard, think I switched around too much.

These sprites actually look pretty OK. Still, I still prefer everything Yellow and beyond. The original originals were just... bad. Let's not even get started with the original original originals.

Too true, hehe. Even BW has some stinkers though. One reason I'm looking forward to 3D is so some of my fave pokes don't look rubbish anymore... Zapdos, Charizard, Mew and Espeon come to mind.

Perspective doesn't work that way xD Makes me wonder whether the pixel artists back then couldn't even trace.

I like how XY manages to capture the "feel" of Sugimori art.

I was originally going to use Broakie, but I've really come to like Chespin. Hmm...

I can see by your Musashi avatar that you have good taste. You should join team Broakie.

Chespin will get you. You will be Chespin. Mwahahahahaha!

How can people obtain these (the ones from promotion) now? Since the promotions are over.

How does this works? Are the pokemon's there legit or not? For example: The Kanto DW starters.

Even the ones that are legit are tagged with a special ribbon, which will signal they're not 'legit'. You can use Pokecheck for breeding down IVs / Abilities though. Just don't plan on downloading an entire team and then running into a tournament with them.

You can also download the pkm files and edit them in Pokegen. You can bypass the ribbon issue that way and they may pass hack check. But I wouldn't recommend it.
