Wow, I'm doing Ruby, Heartgold, and Black at the same time... the difference is im not making much progress because I'm only talking about the

Yes mind blown very much so.

Aww man I was really enjoying Heart Gold when I had it. It's been like 10 years since I actually completed Gold and I've basically forgotten what it's like ):

It's pretty wierd experiencing three different gens at once. Black's story is pretty interesting so far though especially considering how dull I'm finding Diamonds. And oh god the battling in Diamond is sooooooooooo sloooooooooow.

Sapphire is best though. I really don't like the weird psuedo-3D badly animated sprites thing the DS games have.

WHY DID ZOROARK NEVER CATCH ON RAAAARGGGGGHHH

Zoroark's pretty awesome in the TCG if you're running a Dark Type deck though.
The online TCG has stolen my soul.

Well I played Dream Radar yesterday, so there

Yeah I've also been playing that for the legendaries. It's so incredibly repetitive and simplistic and dull...

But hey, at least it's not Pokemon Channel.

lol, no. It's not even the best ability they've introduced this generation (Prankster, Sand Rush). Maybe if there was no team preview, it would work better. Being Pure Dark is a shit type for drawing attacks as well, and his stats mean he can't even take a strong neutral hit well.

Eh I wasn't talking about competitively, but if you wanna bring it up...

I actually think Illusion would be incredible (even with Team Preview) on something that's strong but can take a hit (Terrakion, etc). Zoroark's fraility diminishes the ability, but that's the way it has to be, otherwise it would be really annoying. We actually tested the ability it on a CAP (create-a-pokemon) and it was gamebreakingly powerful.

Illusion gets hate because of team preview, but as long as you use it correctly (ie disguising as something that takes neutral damage from SR / lacks an visual cue on their ability) it should work at least once. I've gotten it to work on actual play against good players since nobody expects Zoroark, and people switch on reflex on bad matchups. The only problem is that even if you pull it off, it might not guarantee anything.

As for Zoroark's typing; Immunity psychic doesn't mean as much in standard play because they usually have the coverage moves to take you down, and Dark STAB is eh. But Dark STAB is useful against things like Mew and Cofagrigus (insanely difficult Pokemon to take down) in UU play, which is where Zoroark should be primarily used in the first place. I could have asked for better, but Dark type is fine for the most part.

Do you have any pictures of it? That sounds pretty neat.

I could take a picture, It probably looks a bit shitty, but damn was it fast ;)
It's at my dad's place though so I'd have to go out of my way to get it...

Yeah, Gen 3 is probably my favorite. Though I think HGSS are the most complete games, and BW are the most polished and advanced.

That's the best way to play it.

IMO HG/SS were tremendously effective games. For me they captured the nostalgia and still made it accessible and fresh to new players. And then you got the GB Player...

Also dunno if anyone saw Japan's ad campaign for HGSS. They had adults who played G/S/C in their childhood recounting their memories with the original games. With Pokemon Sunday to market it at the younger players they had covered every possible buyer base for those games without alienating either.

I know you're talking about Smogon crap singles, but I'm guessing there's a reason he's in UU. He's not a great Pokemon and his ability is far from the best in the game because of Team Preview.

In VGC, he's a poor choice. Fake Out terrifies him, he can't take any spread moves because of his Dark typing not resisting any of them, save for something like Snarl. It's tough to put him on a team because he does nothing special aside from his ability and dies to everything. Dark STAB attack wise can be very good, but defense wise it's complete crap.

So he can't play in either standard environment with any consistent success. That's why he's not a great Pokemon. You can talk up a lot of Pokemon to make them sound like they'll be successful, but in actual play, most of those theorymons don't pan out. It sounds like you've played with him plenty, but I don't agree that he's anything special.

Whoa that's awesome. Truly landmarks of a generation.

Yeah i'm a singles player, which is where I coming from when I was talking about Zoroark. It's decent in OU and pretty good in UU. BTW there's no shame in being UU, especially in BW where tons of "good" Pokemon (Mew, Zapdos, etc) are UU.

I don't play doubles, but Zoroark obviously can't function there since team preview + the nature of doubles Pokemon in battle lessens its effectiveness in addition to its frailty, weak STAB, etc. It also can't use set up moves and isn't much of a team player. It just wasn't built for doubles.

Also i'm not a theorycrafter! I rarely if ever theorymon, you have to realize that most of what I was talking about came from singles experience.

Question.

I know the tiers of Pokemon and such, but when reading posts when people discuss the tiers I get kind of confused. Does OU (Overused) literally mean that the most used Pokemon get in that tier? or is it based on how good they are?

Keep in mind tiers only pertain to smogon's metagame

OU is entirely based on usage for the standard metagame (singles)
-Pokemon that get at least 3.41% usage in standard are "OU"
-Everything below that is "UU" which is a metagame of its own. It similarly uses a 3.41% system
-Everything below UU is RU, and everything below RU is NU (they all use the 3.41% system)
-Ubers is a banlist for OU & BL is a banlist for UU

Remember! Tiers aren't exactly the end all be all of a Pokemon's effectiveness. Lower tiered Pokemon are perfectly capable of functioning in the upper tiers. There are even some cases where lower tiered Pokemon (Cincinno: RU) are better than upper tiered Pokemon (Ambipom: UU). Ambipom is only higher because of its popularity.

Hmm...well I know that about how tiers aren't always the end-all be-all, but I'm more curious to why it's the most used Pokemon that determine a tier instead of which Pokemon are specifically the best.
Thank you for the info by the way.

I actually have no clue lol.

Tradition?

It's annoying because good Pokemon like (Keldeo & Latias) aren't as used as much as mediocre Pokemon (like Infernape), which messes up the stats.

Probably based on how many heroes are in the pool. Having watched a lot of SC2 and Dota 2 competitively it's easy to see just how different their meta games play out. SC2 is all about innovating are changing style of play within a race. While Dota 2 is much more about hero counters, and group play transitions.

Well, 'best' is subjective in most cases - theorymon takes you so far, but it's good to take cues from how teams are actually constructed and used in real play environments to determine what specifically players find useful.

edit: Ah right - there are some cases where a Pokemon is very much obviously OP - Mewtwo being the ur-example.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
ncBVgts.gif

This is pretty great...and Barry replacing Steely Dan works so well since Lucas/Jotaro is "paying them back".

IntelliHeath

As in "Heathcliff"
I was following Pokemon Smash on 4chan, nothing new this week either...

But, someone posted this thread there:

Sounds a little more focused than previous I KNOW ALL POKEMON RUMORS HERE'S 10 RANDOM DESCRIPTIONS.

:lol

that new pokemon sound like new evolution of metal power ranger pokemon or ninja bug in Black and White

It being a super-hero type character sort of fits, since the movie is taking place in a city based on New York too.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
You know what? Screw starter popularity. The anime makes it a point that Ash always gets a grass starter. This just means forever screentime with Chespin!

JJBA and Pokemon do work wonders with each other.

Yeah, here's a picture Masuda posted on Twitter.

Does the WHF start now?

World Hobby Fair actually started on the 20th in Nagoya. Its second wave was this past weekend in Tokyo, the more accessible date. However, it didn't have anything new there, just the XY trailer, various other Pokémon things (such as Tretta, which is seen on the screen in that photograph), and provided a load of merchandise related to the starters, mostly stickers and some cool hats.

You aren't a Junior anymore.

Time to vote for Fennekin.
Way ahead of you. Need to put Froakie back to 3rd place WHERE HE BELONGS.
The poll was what tipped me off first. =D

Of course I don't want the decapitated head variety. Just the chestnut shell.
You'd expect that that would be the main one you'd find. Or a hoodie or something.

Edit: Just gone back a page and saw Zoroark hate? What the hell is this?
PK Gaming has it right. Mind games and lulz with Illusion ability is greatness.

Lucario evolves with "Happiness" which immediately puts him in the "Lamer Than Zoroark" group.

Holy foxes! Fennekin needs one vote to reach Froakie! Yay!

Also, the rumor about this superman pokemon sounds believable, but I really don't think that the movie will be about that... Also, CoroCoro needs to reveal at least 1 new pokemon.

Fennekin is yellow. Yellow is for friendship and happiness. Froakie is blue. Blue is for depression.
