Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | February 2013 | The most desirable handheld in Japan

As a genuine question (don't think of me as a "hater" or anything) - but wouldn't you guys rather have some proper handheld games on the system?

With games like Wipeout, Uncharted and Killzone - why wouldn't I just play them on a PS3? The audiovisual experience that those games are going for is surpassed easily by home consoles. The only Killzone that would get me excited on a portable is another top down one - using the touch to direct your units or something.

Games like Tearaway, Sound Shapes etc are the games that will make me a buy a Vita - much like how FF:TA, The World Ends With You and Bowser's Inside Story made me get a DS.

No. I want a good mix of both. Personally, i don't take my PS3 out and about with me, so that's why i can't play the same games on there ;)

Err.. Top of the page. Buy Mutant Blobs Attack , Velocity and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD

Killzone is made for handheld, fast paced missions, not too long. Just enough to jump in the bus, play one merc mission, pause game, put Vita to stand-by mode and finish later.

I'm just more of a portable gamer in general, so I fully welcome PS3-quality games on the Vita. I would love to see a new FFT or TWEWY on the Vita though.

So is the game similar to Unit 13 in structure?

Convenience: I feel that if I need to play a console game I need to "setup" myself to play for some 2 hours or something, instead with the vita everything becomes pickup and play (the fast OS helps with this) and I can do it while doing something else like being in the computer or while someone else uses the TV.

Because I can't carry my ps3 on the train/bus/car Etc

Yep, this. Also the ability to suspend a game at any point makes any game mobile since I can just pause any gameplay, cutscene or even loading screen if I need to do something.

And Killzone, oh man, if it is basically Killzone 3 for Vita then it's day one for me. I loved Killzone 3.

This is great. I can't wait for this game to drop! Bring that Vita support yo!!!

Honestly I think we will get E3 announcements/surprises for Vita. Its just a gut feeling I have.

Vita Heaven 2!

Killzone will be great game by Guerrilla Cambridge, but... no one is exciting about Tearaway?

Nope. Need to see that there's some substance there first.

As for Killzone I'll believe the graphics when I see it in video form. I don't believe it'll look anywhere near as good as 3.

I'd be satisfied as long as it runs at native resolution.

Don't know how relevant this is, but the Tapei International Game Show is happening next week, and Killzone Mercenary, Tearaway and Soul Sacrifice seem to be on their schedule.

It's seeming more and more likely that we're definately getting new info very soon. Hype rising.
Never heard of this, but it sounds promising. I can't wait to see the game in action.

Ok, got a small info from my friend:

- Engine is nearly 1:1 from PS3 version
- They added a few new gimmicks to the engine, so they can utilize more PS Vita
- Game is gorgeous, clear and crispy textures, big draw distances
- Character models are awesome, the same with animation
- Stable FPS even with gigantic action inside levels
- Literally - game is like portable Killzone 3, looking better than Uncharted.

And yes, we've got new protagonists, release date and many other thing, but.. I cannot speak about them right now. There's a lot of goodness, believe (I just read whole preview), I'm excited as hell.

Valid Question

What's a "proper handheld game" though? You mention FF:TA and Bowser's Inside Story, but there's nothing in either game that wouldn't be replicated on a console. Hell, a lot of people dislike TWEWY's control scheme and, despite liking the game, wish they didn't go so overboard on forcing the game to use ALL the DS's features.

Hell, take a look at Pokemon. One could argue that nowadays, with the internet connecting everyone, there's no reason for it to be on handhelds anymore. EDF 2017 is just as good on the Vita as it was on the 360, so I don't really see an arbitrary requirement like needing touch controls to make it a proper game for handhelds. A good game is a good game regardless of the platform it's on.

I never take my Vita out. Unless I'm away for the week end or something. I like the standby mode though and find it handy.

I just like the pick up and play but I don't use the portability of it much.

If this is true + Sony makes a proper, PROPER advertising campaign = massive sales and no more "haz no gaems"

It's a good point - and don't get me wrong, I agree with you on your final point, but I mean in terms of format. Tactics games aren't often seen on consoles - Fire Emblem, FF:TA, Killzone, Warhammer, Advance Wars etc - the format of the games "fits" on a handheld if you'll excuse the lazy word choice.

If Killzone proves to be fantastic (and I hope it does) I'd constantly be thinking "but this would look better on my PS3" - maybe that's just me? I don't do a lot of travelling over extended periods so that might be one reason why - so sitting in my room, in front of my tv, playing Uncharted doesn't make sense. Not to turn this "sales-age" but I don't think I'd be alone in that thought either.

I don't have a PS3.

As someone who owns every console, ideally I look for unique games on each, so I have little reason to go for Uncharted/Killzone/etc. But despite the Vita being a 'portable console', it has a lot of niche titles to pick up. Of the two I'd naturally go for Tearaway. Hoping Let's Fish will be surprisingly good.

The announcement that would make the system for me would be Patapon 4, though.

And loco roco 3/4

There is no guarantee for this.

every good developers make garbage games sometimes (ND with Uncharted 3 and Jak 2, Retro with Metroid Prime 3, Remedy with Alan Wake,Yakuza Team with Yakuza 4..ect)

I don't think Tsutomu Kuono work for SCEJ anymore, so I doubt there will be any new LocoRoco ever again.

My hype rocket is on the launch pad.

If Mercenary is native resolution, we're ready to go. Otherwise, scrap the whole thing.

I don´t take the vita out of my living room, well, that´s a lie, i take it whith me to the shitter, but that´s it, and i DO want more "console like gaems" in the vita, sometimes is just more comfortable to me than turning on my ps3/360, just laying in my couch, while my girlfriend watches something on the tv, or while i´m just browsing the web (my pc is hooked to my lcd), fighting my cats, playing with a good pair of headphones...chilling.

Sony NEEDS Killzone to kick ass. And from the what we've heard/seen so far I think it will. Can't wait for this game.

Nice, hadn't read that.

UC3 is the definite low point of the series, but i wouldn't say it's crap :/ Anyway, i'm sure Cambridge will do a good job.

Optional touch controls, or obligatory?

Ragnarok is Xseed in USA ? Didn't GungHo open american subsidiary to take care of their games directly ? (they are doing Dokuro and RO for EU releases themselves).

XSEED published Ragnarok Odyssey and Dokuro in the US before GungHo made the EU announcements.
