We were assuming the types will be:
grass/dark, fire/psy and water/fighting based on the move used in the trailer.

He made Golurk and Mandibuzz, your argument is invalid. And Vanilluxe is awesome.

And unlike other people the designs of Pokemon aren't just what-you-see-is-what-you-get. I mean, if we people to do fakemon, that's generally the case. Also they somehow can't into final evos, especially when one realizes that all final evos of starters look menacing or larger, but somehow they just keep insisting that "cute starters always stay cute".

Typhlosion, Meganium, Serperior, Infernape and Swampert don't look menacing.
And starters aren't always very large. For the most part they stay in the 4-6 feet tall range. Hell, Infernape is 3'11. Even Charizard, who is normally depicted as being huge, is only actually 5'07 and less than 200lbs.

I don't really subscribe to the thought process that there's set rules to this kinda stuff. I could very well see either Chespin or Fennekin being "small and fast". Fennekin reminds me of Snivy and Chikorita in that I just can't see her turning into some menacing or masculine looking Pokemon.

Middle Form Starters are the best...Pignite and Grotle are two of my favorite Pokemon ever, for instance. Bayleaf is the only member of the Chikorita line that looks good, too.

Only one I don't care for is Servine. It's fucking ugly, especially its face which never looks right, be it sprite, model, or anime.

The 3 kanto pokes are good, It's just that dumb fatigue thing and auto switch upon death that screws them up.....and ivysaur taking more knockback from all the various fire attacks in the game lol.

Lucas is the only character I can beat boss mode with on very hard.

Slow characters in Smash all suck. Mewtwo's lack of speed ruined in him Melee too.
