Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

You people have to realise that there was no marketing for xenoblade. Now that Nintendo knows that they have a big hit in their hand they will probably market the shit out of it .
With great marketing this could easily become a million seller for Nintendo.

There seemed to be an overall underestimation of the appeal of Xenoblade. Weird.

Which version do you prefer?

Thanks to the increased saturation I just noticed that the coral-like growths which appear at another point in the trailer are present in that shot too.

They're pretty big up close...gives another idea of the scale.

you know after reading your quote it's really very hard to resist not playing this game.

Someone once told me something similar, comparing FFXII to Xenoblade to get me to play it (faster than I would normally have), so I'm glad it left an impression on you. :)

Subdued palette, guns, no outrageous designs, clean, industrial look, multiplayer. A game more for the Mass Effect crowd, not so much the Final Fantasy or Tales crowds. That's my early impression at least. The 3DS RPG by Monolith Kyoto is probably their RPG for the Japanese market.

I believe someone in this thread brought up that Japanese impressions (on NicoNico, anyway) were pretty positive, and I've been told more or less the same from a few Japanese friends. I know, that's anecdotal at best in the larger scheme of things, but I think in the end X'll be a game that appeals equally to both the east and the west. That's the vibe I'm getting, at least.

It should do pretty well as long as it hits worldwide by 2014.

The big thing holding it back was lack of marketing in the West and the graphics not being HD.

Now you've got a game that looks very good graphically and a game coming off a lot of good word of mouth/reviews for Xenoblade. The online co-op should pull in some folks as well.

The only thing really working against it is it being a Wii U game and the much smaller install base than the Wii.

To be honest that comparison picture is not all that far off from the difference in the Youtube and eshop trailers. Seriously, watch it on the eshop if you can and haven't yet. Everything just looks better.

I don't think that area looks bigger than Eryth Sea (maybe similar in size), but I'm not sure that counts since that area was primarily just empty water. So this game definitely gets the advantage.

Makna Forest is probably also somewhat comparable in size, but it's kind of split up into two chunks and again, one of them is full of water.

Although I could be remembering wrong, when talking about Xenoblades sales in the west, I think it was said to be the most pirated game in 2011, or something and not everyone who pirated is likely to have bought it. Maybe I'm just crazy.

I imagine that X will be out in the West, and much sooner than Xenoblade.

Umm...can you explain? Trippy isn't a word I'd associate with BK. The only thing 'trippy' is Mira's awesome theme. :)

Ugh, it's been YEARS since i played this, so... going from memory, i remember a tedious maze that flipped you upside down, there was a "candy town" that had a really strange vibe, there was a journey with a ship (of sorts) when you first meet Mizuti (had to google that name), all rather psychedelic imo... And i'm no fan of fixed cameras.

Xenoblade had a lot of overhanging rock structures. Some in Colony 9, the ones on Bionis Leg are probably the most the most iconic, and Eryth Sea had some. Can't remember if Makna Forest or Valak had any.

Sword Valley didn't have rock structures obviously, but it still had a very vertical, layered layout.

Won't be surprising to see designs like that here since people really liked Xenoblade's environments.

I think it depends on the area, in the beginning you can only see mountains, sand and water, those have naturally less saturated colors.

Look at this:

Edit: Those enemy models are really good.

Just a quick image I threw together:

What do you reckon?

That's the Bionis' shoulder, yeah? Silent_Ocarina pointed out that the spot where the Doll flies off from would be that particular section of land. And from what I've seen, the Bionis' shoulder would be much, much bigger than that.

Here's the video once again:

*Enya's Caribbean Blue! That's what the first thirty-one seconds of the trailer kept reminding me of! :P*

Man, this is GIGANTIC.

Why didn't they include this?

I really hope they don't trade HD detail for smaller maps, exploring in XB was the best. I want the bigger maps possible, don't really care about extra detailed grass physics or whatever.

Also you guys made me realize the game is a bit too brown/grey. :(

Yeah, global appeal would be even better. From Software kinda managed to achieve this, maybe Monolith can do it as well. That's probably what Nintendo would want, too.

The monster animations, too. Well, some of them. Animations in general were the biggest problem I had with Xenoblade visually, and X is a massive step up in that regard.

Just started playing it a few days ago, its a gigantic game and ive only made it to the third area. Its probably due to lack of time that it wasn't finished. Ive yet to even fully explore the very first area in the game and do all of the requests for the villagers. I can barely comprehend what they could do with a system that has over 10x the memory and 10x the power with an even larger storage medium than before. What really gets me about the game is that its almost every bit as vertical as it is wide.

That Xenoblade music gives me goosebumps. That Colony 9 theme was in the trailer that made me decide to definitely buy Xenoblade if it came out here.
This was the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtTlUcjtqTY
The video is awesome; the beginning with the camera swooping over the Bionis and zooming in on Shulk and friends was amazing, but the music blew my freaking mind.
Can't wait for that to happen with "X"!

It makes me mad that a simple announcement of a Mario or Zelda title trumps this amazing looking game. All I hear is garbage another 3D Mario or Mario kart but they get all pissy when I tell them they have been playing the same game for the past 20 years and are to dumb to notice. This game looks amazing and I got goosebumps just looking at the trailer (very rare). It just a shame Americans are too stubborn to give this game a try.
This, besides being patently false, is extremely childish and insulting.

I finally get why the pop-in looks so weird in this game. Unlike in most (all?) other games I've seen, it's all batched in sectors. It's either drawing all the foliage and gravel in a sector or none of it, based on proximity, so everything pops in at once. Probably more efficient that way, and I guess it's something that can be further optimized.

I am glad that "X" will have huge scale like Xenoblade. I can hope that it is going to be even bigger like x2 of Xenoblade whole scale since we have Mech to fly at high speed.

So can anyone think as to why Mr. Tetsuya Takahashi may have chosen Hiroyuki Sawano to compose the music? Sawano does a lot of TV drama and has done quite a few films, also anime...

According to Soraya Saga, while he's still good friends with Mitsuda, he wanted to try something new and he likes Sawano's works.

No idea. But if there was ever to be some kind of Xenoblade director's cut, you can be damn sure I'd buy the game again if that was included in it!

It's a wonderful area. I actually created a Riivolution patch for the Japanese version, switching the map with another in the game, so all I had to do is instant travel to a certain point to land in the maps large lake.

Other than the treasure chests and low resolution fruit textures it's pretty much the same quality as any other area in the game. I personally reckon it was cut due to the colony more than anything; they'd have had to create NPC's for it, or write story to take place there. I can't see there being any other reason for it, especially since they claimed to have entire maps completed in a single month or so; a few alterations shouldn't have taken a week if that.

1. Takahashi is looking for a specific direction with the music and likes Sawano.

2. Because Sawano is very popular right now, scoring a number of high profile anime over the last couple years. It was only a matter of time until he started working in video games as well.

Definitely going to have to experience it first-hand on my next playthrough of XB.

Makes sense. Though, it seems like such a waste to just leave it there rotting as junk data... Do you think there's any chance they'd reuse its designs for X? Also, what's this I'm hearing about Takahashi hiring a novelist to write for X? D:

Takahashi is usually very hands on with the music and he see's it as very important so it makes me wonder about what direction he wants to take, could mean anything really... but I hope it means more story from Takahashi.

Who knows? If the game is a sequel or set in the same world it's possible, but they'd likely remake the entire area anyway if that were the case. Unless they make a HD remake with extra content we're unlikely to see it, and even then it wouldn't be exactly as it is in the data (as far as the story goes, all colonies not seen or heard of in the game were
destroyed before the battle in sword valley
).

It was probably left in the game because they didn't have to remove it. They left other things in the game too, like a debug weapon for Sharla (a gun made out of white boxes) and Fiorung's original model (shown in the first trailer). Of the two, Sharla's gun can be used with a slight data edit, same as the map.

I see. Well, that's very unfortunate. :(

Dat saturation!

Okay. I can't be the only who sees a giant chameleon with big-ass lips that has a jaekelopterus rhenaniae clipped to it. D:

Oh, right. I thought all that stuff was cool. BK isn't really a 'trippy' series, though it does have some unique things. BKO had some clay town where furniture talked IIRC lol. But it's 'normal' otherwise. The candy town Parnasse in BK1 is one of the most unique towns I've seen.

Baten Kaitos made marvels with the fixed 2D background paradigm. I still remember how I was completely in awe when I played the game the first time.

This in HD would be almost too much for my heart. If only Yoshi would have gone that way instead of making everything out of yarn.

Yoshi Yarn > that by farrrr.
