Great but flawed games. Sad that the ideas behind them and the surprisingly interesting world won't get to be refined further; I feel they were steps away from something really special.

Pardon for the inconsistency
and the shitty quickness of the thread
in the picture size, I'm about to head to class. Darksiders reminded me of my younger days playing Wind Waker and reading Spawn (I was a weird kid) Really wanted to know what happens after the first game.

It's the final line in the ending to Darksiders 1. Someone expresses disbelief that War's gonna fight the powers that be alone. And he says, "No, not alone." And it cuts to his Apoca-buddies streaming down out of the sky.

In retrospect, it would have been way more wise to make a Death game that took place after Darksiders 1.

It may not have been the four player game they originally envisioned, but at least it would have moved the series forward. Darksiders 2 was very confused about what it wanted to do with its story.

Loved the franchise but Fury and Strife were/are intellectual and creative cop-outs. Easily the most disappointing thing about the lore.

One of the things I didn't find too appealing in DS2 was the story. Side by stories should be kept in side material or in a single game, in my opinion.

I don't get it. We don't even know anything about the characters except their designs and a couple lines of dialogue in the comics etc.

That line was a "holy shit" moment for me. DS2 not being a direct sequel is really a misstep imo which prevented me from buying the game.

I only played like 2-3 hours of the first game and with all of this I don't have any motivation to continue if the story ends on a cliffhanger or something like that? :\

Isn't this going to be auctioned off with the rest of the IPs? I could see Crytek trying to pick it up now that Vigil has been reformed as Crytek studio there.

The ending isn't a cliffhanger so much as it sets things up for a new story.

Crytek has refused to buy it because they're scumbags.

You will get resolution on the main thrust of War's story - how the apocalypse happened and who tricked him in to starting it.

You won't get resolution on why they did it or confronting the bigger bad at the end of it.

Isn't platinum still idly entertaining the thought of picking up the licence?

That would be the best home for it...

It would be a good home but not the best home. Better than any other option we have now, though. I wouldn't mind seeing it go to Blizzard (mainly because I think their artists could nail the art style) if they could pump out the games faster than they do their other stuff, but that'll never happen.

I don't think they ever were. Inaba just tweeted in a "Haha, I'd like to own that!" way.

I speculated on twitter that I'd like to buy Ubisoft Montreal with kickstarter money, but I don't intend to actually do that.

It feels like we've had this thread so many times already. But anyway, it's too early to RIP it. 36 members from Vigil has been bought by Crytek, right? And the Darksiders ip hasn't been sold yet, right? So why are you all just jumping to conclusions? Hey! There's always hope. Always.

Still find it odd that the second game didn't continue the story of the first game, or at least move the plot forward a little.

So what happens to the IP now in reality though? Crytek didn't buy it. THQ is no more. Vigil, who I'm assuming owned IP, no longer exists.

Where...is it now?

I liked both games.

But I would like to slap across the face whoever decided that the second game should not continue from the end of the first. That was a huge mistake in judgement.

People wanted the second game, partly because of how the first ended. To ignore that was mindblowingly foolish.

I can only assume that someone high up thought it was a good idea as it gave them the potential to drag out the story over many games. They were wrong.

In Limbo with System Shock II right now ;-;

I really didn't forsee anyone who didn't grab the vigil guys and gals to grab Darksiders.
