Darksiders Memorial Thread

I speculated on twitter that I'd like to buy Ubisoft Montreal with kickstarter money, but I don't intend to actually do that.

tipping VG247 off as we speak

I didnt like DS1 or 2 but I still kinda feel sad that we arent going to get that eventual sequel with all 4 kicking ass together

Another cliffhanger ending that will never see resolution. ;_;

Does anyone really care about the story, though? I literally zoned out during a lot of the cutscenes in the first half of the first game.

The Legend of Darksiders: Four Soul Adventures.

I don't get it. We don't even know anything about the characters except their designs and a couple lines of dialogue in the comics etc.
The characters are based on Horsemen of which there are four. Could you list the Innate qualities of strife and fury? Especially fury. I feel those changes were made because a game about hunger and pestilence would be a creative challenge.

Played the first one recently, liked it enough to finish it without pausing for more than a few days.

Too bad Vigil just finished the second game before THQ crashed down, someone would probably have bought them if they had something just before release...

Easily one of my favorite new IP's this gen. Absolutely loved the Art, Lore and Games themselves. Here's hoping that the franchise finds it's way into someone's hands who actually cares and gives a shit about it.

Loved
Loved
Loved this series
Really solid mechanics....perfect video game art....really nicely designed characters and enemies...such great games

Death comes to us all...

Darksiders is a very derivative series, but its always been more than the sum of its parts, and more importantly it was always a fun time.

Meh series. I don't understand the love for it.
Saying Darksiders is better than recent Zelda games also gives me a laugh.

The premise of playing as the four horsemen of the apocalypse had great appeal.

The art direction was refreshing, the lore and game world felt neat to dig into, War & Death were badass main characters, and the combat was fun and engaging.

Those are my reasons at least.

So what did they straight up confirm no 3 and 4? (I know the conpanies done etc).
But isn't there still time to buy the IP if someone wanted to?

I don't know if I'd say better than Zelda. But it cut a lot of the fat from the incidental animations and little rituals. War opened doors faster. Opened treasure chests faster. Hauled heavy stuff faster. Climbed faster. Called his horse faster. Everything moved at a better clip.

The creative and technical teams are scattered to the winds. Does it matter if there's a 3 or 4 now?

darksiders 2 bored me before I got to the 4 hour mark. No narrative, no story, no world building besides dwarves, and just no motivation to enter another dungeon to do a whole bunch of nothing. I liked the first one much better despite the first one being a little rough around the edges. Shame about the shitty pc ports.

This game was damn good, and like many other posters here have said, was on the brink of becoming something very special.

Too bad, I really hope Vigil is bought and new IP is made from the remains.

As a Zelda fan, I really loved the first one. Just clicked with me. DS2 I'm playing through now, gathering the dead/dread lords in the dead world area...and man, this game is killing me to get through. Making it a sidestory and trying to not make it such a blatant Zelda clone didn't help the game at all. It feels like it's far too large (and long) for the amount of content they give you.

I'll still finish it most likely. Did anyone play through the Season Pass DLC? I picked that up for cheap too.

1st one was a cure for insomnia. 2nd one had better combat, and was enjoyable to a certain extent.

Despite Vigil's efforts, Darksiders 2 just didn't click with me after playing it for some hours. It lacked that secret ingredient. I don't know how to put it, but maybe what it lacked was a solid sense of direction. I say this because the game felt like something I'd enjoy immensely.

There's potential though, and perhaps the team should hire a different director if they ever plan on continuing the series.

Crytek just opened a new studio there and hired the core group. In essence, they "bought" Vigil. Joe Mad is the only "true" creative force behind the franchise that left. I could see him coming back now that they're stable.

Crytek has refused to buy it because they're scumbags.

Has something happened that I missed, or is it that they just didn't buy the rights at the auction? I could see them doing it this way as it would be cheaper, in the long run. At least with Homefront, they bought it since they were already working on the IP, and might as well cover their ass. With them opening up a studio and bringing in the Vigil guys, I could see them purchasing the IP cheap at the next auction.

Ending of DS1 had me so psyched for the sequel, was always a little disappointed that DS2 was a side story. Still one of my favourite new IP's of the gen.

Really like the first one - the second one was even better for the first half, and dropped to a series low for the second half. Was hoping the series would redeem itself in its third entry but I guess it's not to be.

I thought Darksiders 1 was stellar. Darksiders 2 hasn't grown on me in the same way. I still think Darksiders 1 is considerably better than Skyward Sword, but not as good as Zeldas before that.

I'm at the same spot in DS2, and it's not grabbing me either. Something about the game just isn't grabbing me the way the original did.

Damn, the shadow of Zelda is everywhere here. Add me to the party, the only thing who bothered me is this "dark Zelda" thing. In fact it bothered me a lot, not to the point to see the franchise dead of course, but at the time I was pointing out the fact that a series that consists of two games can't really be compared to a 25th years series. Hell, one year later DS is dead.
So even if the creators wanted it this way, I think DS fans should not just refers to DS as the "dark Zelda".
I can easily see in a few years "Darksiders what?" "Oh, the dark Zelda who died with THQ! Should have tell me dark Zelda earlier!". It will be kinda sad.

As I'm playing Darksiders 2, I'm finding that its biggest flaw is that it's not Zelda enough. I'd rather have leveling over getting heart pieces, but the random loot killed any need to explore. You go through all this effort to get to a hidden chest and...oh it's full of shit you don't need, and some cash. Great. I'd rather that the loot wasn't randomized. If there was a huge loot table, and items were hand placed in chests (like in a regular RPG) that would be awesome. Going out of your way to a chest rewards you with a kickass piece of gear? I'm down with that.

Odd series. I liked the first one a fair bit although I'd never consider it an A tier title. It was simply a competent Zelda knockoff with good art and a decent if somewhat standard story.

The second one was an over ambitious game with some good things, a few really neat locations and a whole lot of barren, pointless crap in between. It was a game that didn't have the budget or polish required to sustain the massive frame the developers were attempting to build off of.

Hopefully the developers land on their feet but I can't say I'm sad to see the franchise die.

I would have liked to see the team tackle something with a more intimate scope that lets the art really shine. Maybe a third person action title or similar.

If it gets cheap enough I can buy the Darksiders IP!!!

LEAVE IT TO ME GUYS

Now I just gotta break open that piggy bank under my bed.
