The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

While I'm not a tower defence fan so I'm not interested in Kingdom Rush specifically, but I think the general idea of iOS quick looks is a good one. There are enough exclusive games on the platform to justify some video exposure from the site.

[insert appropriate deity here] created all games equal.

I'm not gonna watch all of the Antichamber QL because I plan on buying the game but from what I've seen of the game, it looks super cool. Hits all the right buttons for me. I've always loved that super clean, primary colors only art style (also a part of the appeal of Portal and Portal 2 for me) and the puzzles seem interesting. Also, the math nerd in me loves the fact that this game makes something really abstract like non-euclidean geometry more accessible.

Did you play qube? Hits a lot of those same points.

I notice they never quick look any Vita games.

Is video-out impossible on the Vita?

Basically, they've said that they have repeatedly tried to get capture devices but Sony is too uptight about them. Other sites just settle for over-the-shoulder videos but giantbomb thinks it's a crappy way to do a video (they did it on the original vita release video, but refuse to do anything more until they get a capture device).

So was farmville...mega popularity doesn't indicate good quality. Usually it's just the opposite.
What? No. Mega popular doesn't mean poor quality. These are separate metrics that we've seen be at both ends of the spectrum for all sorts of things. Trying to assume a correlation off of one by saying "Usually mega popular means not good quality" is absurd.

Mega popularity has no correlation to quality. My comment points out how stupid either extreme is.

Kingdom rush is a bad tower defense game that is popular because of its simplicity and price point.

Yeah, I'd be happy to find out about more mobile exclusive (iOS + Android) games that actually good. Just don't do 20 Quick Looks on those damn word jumble games. :P

Other than Rayman Jungle Run I haven't really played any games on my Nexus 10. I have a few that I carried over from my phone like World of Goo, Angry Birds, Osmos, and the shitty Android version of Plants vs. Zombies. Other than those I really don't know much of what is out there that's worth playing.

Since they spend a chunk of the podcast talking about mobile games, quick looks of them would help me know what they're talking about.

I've heard that you shouldn't watch any videos of Antichamber if you're interested in the game (danny o'dwyer), and Gamespot did a great look at it without spoiling much.

How does Giant Bomb go about it with the surprise?

Kingdom Rush looks like a PixelJunk Monsters ripoff.

Also, Neogaf app!

Highlight of the Quick Look.

Got through 30 minutes before coming down with what I can best describe as motion sickness. Only a few games have done this to me in the past (kill.switch on the Xbox comes to mind) but I'm so nauseous. What a mind fuck.

My brain was beginning to pour out of my ears. I want that game.

HOLY CRAP, OH WOW

I just now got around to watching the Antichamber Quicklook, and it looks so crazy. I was curious as to why Jeff kept playing that game instead of playing something like DmC, but now I get it. I don't think I'll finish this one. I want to save enough of the puzzles to figure it out myself, rather than watch them go through a lot more of it. Man, so cool.

What's great is that I just started playing it today myself and after an hour I started to watch the quick look as I didn't want to spoil it for myself and I figured I had surely gotten further than they would in the 40 mins. Turns out they just went a completely different way and started running into puzzles I hadn't and I had to turn it off. I don't know how big the game is, but I was amazed.

Wow, really? That's pretty nuts. The presentation looks like it might wear on my eyes after a little while, but it looks like a fun game to play for short bursts.

Watching Hundreds now, and Brad is hilarious. I love how intense he gets when there's a challenge. I want to root for him, but it's so funny hearing him yell in frustration. : P

Is there anything of value in the antichamber quicklook? is it funny? is it annoying? is it insightful? I think i might skip it as not to be spoiled on the game, or revisit if it is worth it.

Other than them getting surprised a lot, no don't watch it if you're interested in the game and want to play it. It's 25% off right now till 6th Feb.

Have you been solving puzzles by actually thinking about them? Watching the first 20 minutes of that quicklook, it seemed like you just kind of stumble around until it solves itself.

There is definitely some of that. That has changed as I've gone on though. The beginning only really plays with more parlor tricks with looking places and whatnot and as you go on some "real" puzzles with switches and whatnot start to emerge.
