The DmC Bug

I played through and beat DmC on the 360 over a weekend. It was a fun time, coming from someone that was never a big fan of the originals.

I then played some Shank, which I've always had problems with, and completely destroyed it. I felt like I was playing DmC - same with Shank 2.

I then went back to the Metal Gear Rising demo which I had a hard time with, and again, I completely destroyed it.

DmC seems to be a good trainer for playing other hack n' slash style action games. Even though DmC was a bit easy for me, it did require a lot of twitch mechanics. I think the forgiving health system gave me time to learn the controls and move-set, which was different than how easy it is to die in Shank and MGR.

Has anyone else come across this? Maybe with a different game or genre?

So you're asking for 1 game that taught you how to play all the others in its genre? I sort of have one for me

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves came out pretty early for the Wii. I beat it and it was a very good at showing me what motions the Wii expects versus what you, the player, think it is expecting. A good example is when playing Wii Sports Tennis, some people think that you have to do a 1:1, real life tennis swing, where the truth is you can do a minor flick of the wrist to achieve the same thing in-game. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves taught me this and I feel that I had a better grasp of motion controls for all Wii games after.

This excludes WiiMotion+ of course, I actually have not played any games that feature it.

I sold Ninja Gaiden (xbox) after trying several times to beat Alma in the church.

Later on i bought Ninja Gaiden Black and learnt how to actually play the game, thanks to the more forgiving Ninja Dog mode, after that i beat the game on normal without too many problems.

For the record, i still suck ass at videogames, though.

Now play DMC3

Then DMC4 for true gameplay

And then Bayonetta for perfection.

I preffered DMC3, DMC4 and Bayonetta over DmC. DmC was still fun though.

After you get destroyed in DMC3, DMC4, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden Black, play some Arkham City. Dat Free Flow Combat.

I can't play Bayonetta on a PC, and that makes me sad. Platinum lack of PC support is my biggest knock against them, in fact.

DmC is a good action game and very enjoyable. It's just nowhere near the top tier of action games due to its incredible simplicity and ease of progression through all difficulties. It's far more casual than I'm used to.

However, I would like to see more from this DmC universe. It's an intriguing one.

Going along the lines of the OP I cant remember if playing a bunch of Sonic 2 on my iphone one night made me loads better at DKCR the next day or vice versa. Its one of the two. Kinda weird either way

Try Enslaved. It's got one of the deepest, most intricate combat systems in the genre. There are some really impressive videos out there with some insane combos. The only downside is that the platforming can be very, very tricky at times.

C'mon this was supposed to be a positive thread
