Monster Hunter 3 WiiU has region locked online multiplayer (NA/EU cant play together)

Today has not been kind to NintendoGAF.

I survived the idiotic segregation in the Wii version, so if I ever get a Wii U I doubt this will seriously hamper my gameplay experience, but it's still fucking stupid to not even include an "international" server for those that want or need one.
But Germans >>>
They have skill and good taste.
I take it you have never played with/against me in an online game.

Well, yesterday Wii U lost Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge.

It was never a system seller. The impact is small.

I bet it's just capcom not wating to deal with lag and balancing, and being lazy all-around. It may be Nintendo's severs, but it is capcoms's GAME.

Also, you can play with randoms. 70% of my multiplayer experience in Tri was with random players and I had zero problems with it.

I don't want to play with randoms, I want to play with my friends. So do most of the people in this thread who aren't happy with how things are going to be.

If it wasn't co-op then I wouldn't care, but being that communication & teamwork is paramount in this game, it's fucking ridiculous that I'm forced to play with other gamers that I can't understand.

You're forced to play with other games you can't understand?

Did I miss something?

Yup, kinda sucks but it's not a game/deal breaker for me...Still gonna play the shit outta MH and I'm gonna like it!!!

..after all there's hardly anything else to do on Wiiu anyways..

Correct. Unless I've arranged a game prior, I'm forced to play with European gamers that I cannot understand. 9 times out of 10.

Ahh. That's a bummer but there's very little communication involved in MH3U.

All I ever used was the shortcuts with randoms.

Anybody expecting different probably hasn't followed development, or played Tri. Saw this coming a region-locked continent away.

The fake outrages is hilarious. Monster Hunter Tri was the same way. Was anyone expecting otherwise?

I'm somewhat surprised people are surprised by this. The feeling in the Ultimate thread since it was announced was that this was inevitable, even if we had some hope things would maybe be different.

It's not and I regret using the phrasing "for the record." There's no real record to put it on.

I will say I was told about this a few weeks back and heard the same "Well, it's just like Tri" stuff then, too. I tried finding out reasons, but didn't get anywhere.

Ah right, I see. Cheers for clarifying.

Even if MH Tri was region locked, that really doesn't justify this. Very bizarre move from Capcom imo.

You know which Monster Hunter games allow you to play online with different regions?

The PSP ones.

Pretty much.

Voice chat, keyboard support, and a decent (international) lobby system to boot.

It's sad to think that the PSP + AD-HOC party version of MH is the best players can hope for as far as online features go :p

Well, on the upside, since we didn't get 8-10 player rooms, having a big regionless group of us jockey for 4 slots in a city would have been (more) awkward.

Since forever? The 3DS version didn't have online because it was (probably) planned to be Japan-only during development. And Japan doesn't care all that much for online in MonHun.

What on earth does Reggie have to do with anything? Jesus, dude.

Andrex with the double flawless victory.

Uhhhmmmm.... Are you guys smoking fucking pot? This doesn't matter. This is a good decision.
Have none of you ever tried playing a game online across oceans? It's typically not the most enjoyable experience. Pings are typically at least 100ms. Now, we've got a game that's extremely fast paced in the sense that it is highly dependent on timing specific dodges, and failing to do so more or less means you fail as a whole.

And we think we want to have a laggy connection on that?

They aren't doing it because they are fucking assholes, they're doing it because 200+ ping sucks ass, especially on a game like this!

And short of a small group of people it doesn't even explicitly stop anyone from doing anything. One in like 20 people will be explicitly saddened by not being able to play with someone across several hours worth of ocean. On PC I can barely stand to click on a server further than Chicago and I could freaking drive there.

Actually I have played PSP MH games with people in Japan using ad hoc party. Sad to say that lots of people in Japan have better internet than lots of people in North America. Also, MH has not been a game that sensitive to moderately high pings (~200 was still okay when I was using xlink kai).

Maybe it's less true with Tri/Third since they've made things (hunter and monster animations) slightly faster, though.

This isn't surprising news in the least. Capcom, just give us off-TV play! You've already cannibalized sales by releasing 3Ds and Wii U versions at the same time. You may as well make the Wii U version sweeter since few people will care for the 3DS version due to its lack of online play.

3DS version will outsell the WiiU version.

I live in Australia, I'm regioned with Europe so the biggest playerbases are on other continent anyway. Go fuck yourself you moronic shitbird.

I can understand wanting a large user base to connect with, but why is it critical that you be able to play with Japanese and Europeans? Do people love having lots of online lag when they play games online together?

as some people mentioned its probably due to lag, tri only synchronized the players a dn big mosters and even so there was lag every now and then, its not a game where you can screw too much due to lagspikes., it was frustrating see a monster teleport all over t he place

It was a joke post.

I should hope that my normal posts are different enough to tell the difference...

I'm a shitbird for forgetting AU's playerbase? That hardly seems civilized. Yeah, I know I asked if we were smoking pot but that's just insulting.

At any rate, I stand by my position; having a large playerbase isn't necessarily essential for Monster Hunter, each mission is only 4 people at max, and I know plenty of people happy with 2 or 3. Having said that, I can see in Australia it sucking a little bit more than the rest, but it's not like this is just some horrible, terrible decision on par with pissing on people's faces.

My only concern is that I don't think there will be a lot f US players, so if I can't find players in the US servers, I can't even look around the rest of the world :P most likely the online will die very very quickly.
