Need for Speed: Most Wanted Wii U Demo!Dat EA support.[Alex Ward of Criterion Games]

Ah that makes alot more sense then :p really didnt know what the buzz was about. But only have youtube for comparison, pc is.. Old.

NfS looks nice, might buy it for the off tv play

This is how you make a Wii U port. Easy, smart tweaks that make the game far better. Developers, please take note and start doing this. I want to play more games on my Wii U. I'm glad I waited to play NFS on this platform.

As much as I want this game to do well, I know it probably won't. All those people who complain about shitty ports and third parties not giving a damn should check this game out and put it on their radar.

well theres a threadfull of people here who probably wouldnt have given it a second glance who are now planning to get it, hopefully this will be replicated elsewhere

Here's a simple example.

Well it's a racing game with casual appeal, and the fact that it is actually made by criterion and is clearly the best console version, will appeal to the more seasoned/core gamer as well... but it's still a late port, on a platform with a small userbase.

I already have and beat it on PS3. But the better fidelity and added gamepad stuff makes me want to double dip. Plus you can never have enough games for a new console!

Co-Driving through Need for Speed: Most Wanted on Wii U

Since the tail end of 2011, a core team of engineers at Criterion has been working with the Wii U. The final hardware launched in November, and Criterion started to scratch its collective noggin and figure out how it would work for Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

This meant missing the Wii U launch, but Criterion Games' Alex Ward was fine with that during a preview session last week – if Need for Speed: Most Wanted had been at launch, it would've lacked all online functionality.

"The reason we didn't do the game for launch is because the online side of it wasn't very clear to us," said Ward. "We weren't sure how much we could do online or how it was going to be, because obviously Nintendo were making a lot of changes up until their run-up to launch. So we didn't want to bring the game out at launch on Wii U with no online play.

The extra time was not spent in vain, something that became obvious once Most Wanted was up and running on a television. The Wii U port pulls in the PC assets and immediately sports a much longer draw distance and better frame rate than its console cousins. Having played my fair share of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, the work that went into this Wii U version was clear – and not just in graphical fidelity, either.

"When we got the final hardware in November, we started to look at it, to really experience it, and start to think that just a port isn't going to cut it. Like we'd be embarrassed if we didn't do anything extra; putting something out, any team could do that."

I'm pretty tempted to pick this up. Especially considering I haven't played a NFS/Burnout game since the 6th gen.

Isn't this the 1st Criterion game on a Nintendo hardware since Burnout 2? Damn, I just want a Burnout game for Wii U, an HD release of Takedown would make me cry!

I already own the game for 360, Vita, and recently even grabbed it for PS3. I'll probably buy this version as well.

I'm a huge racing game fan, and particularly Criterion racing games. I'm also insane.

This sort of seems to me like a Sonic and the Secret Rings moment. I could be wrong, but I think I remember that game being one of the first Wii games to show the system stretching its legs a little.

Oh, Core Criterion working on it, I thought they were gonna give it to N-space or some shit like that. I bought it for practically free some im gonna give it to a friend on his bday.

It's sad that not all developers can be this excited about a new gaming platform. I'm glad the guys at Criterion are hard at work and putting effort into something that will turn out great.

It's doubly sad that it seems as though it did not require a very large team or a lot of resources from Criterion to create what is going to be a quality port that takes advantage of the hardware in ways that makes sense, yet we still aren't hearing about plenty of other 2013 games coming to the platform from pubs/devs who have similar resources at their disposal

I wasn't planning on getting this but after complaining about shitty rushed ports I have to put my money where my mouth is on this one. And it's getting clearer and clearer every day that the fault for the shitty ports rests on Nintendo. Why does it sound like every studio got their final kits so close to launch?

You're not remembering wrong, it was the first 3rd party Wii game that looked like it wasn't developed for GC. Most other near launch games for Wii didn't even have proper widescreen before Secret Rings.

True that. I'm hoping EA markets this well, though, I doubt they will.

I'm loving this quote from the IGN Developer Commentary video: "The Wii U is a very powerful piece of hardware". :)

Alex and Criterion are awesome! Gonna buy this even just to show the love I have for these guys and the stellar effort they put into everything, doesn't hurt that the game will be fantastic fun too!

they actually put some work on this version... this was the game I wanted so badly

I am so happy right now, I think I might buy a discs version if the eshop download is not day 1

oh gawd, does this need to come out at the same time as Lego Undercover and MH3U?!

Very good job making a better port. Deserves some love.

definetly interested in this version of the game. skipped it one the 360, but this effort has to be supported, looks very good

Pre-ordered. I just hope this sells at least *enough* for Criterion to consider a future Burnout or another NfS in the WiiU.

You mean to say if a talented third party developer actually takes the fucking time and learns the hardware, they can make a game on WiiU with IMPROVED visuals over the 360/PS3? Get outta town!

This is horrible news. Now, I have THREE games to buy on WiiU in March.

I'm gob smacked that I'm even a gob smacked about this.

Not only that: came back with a small Wii U team

And in two months.

Their Vita version is also quite good.

Too bad no one else really puts in that effort. Though the MK Vita port runs very well and is full of content, bad textures aside. Maybe Injustice will run well on the WiiU as well
