NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

I'm not gonna lie. I'll slap two grand on 2 if it OCs like what people are saying it does.

Yeah me too. Although I would have to wait another month to get my 2nd card. Hopefully what people are saying is true, and this is no longer a limited run. It might be hard to get a 2nd one after the first initial batch sells out (might be months). But I would be okay waiting, as long as this is a continued product - and I can get a 2nd card later down the line. I just don't have 2 grand to drop in one go. But I have the grand, easily.

With a bit of searching you could buy a SLI gtx680 for the same price, and get a little more performance.

Those overclocking abilities though are just way too intriguing.

680 SLI would be less expensive, but that's not what they are targeting with this card. It offers strong compute as well as great frames with a single GPU. It's kind of a middle ground between a workstation card and a gaming card, but with an eye towards enthusiasts (as in, hardware enthusiasts, not gaming).

If you want the best performance for the $, SLI 670s will theoretically be outperforming this if the speculative info from Anandtech is correct.

Man. I've been following this thread and I'm starting to get antsy. My computer still runs a lot of games just fine on my piece of shit GeForce 285, but I've gotten my tax return and I'm really trying to figure out what to do next. SLI 2 680s, go for a Titan, or just wait for the new cards at the end of the year and hope they're comparable to the Titan, but a few hundred cheaper. Decisions, decisions.

What's your monitor like? 1080p? Multi-monitor 1080p? Larger resolutions?

Upgrading to these beasts is very dependent on the monitor situation, imo.

I just like tech in general, I can "waste" a grand on this no problem, but I really don't need it xD

It's hard to resist the urge, sometimes. That's why I'm looking at alternatives, just for the sake of it.

A two-way gtx680 or gtx670 will get me short of the Titan's price tag (with a 10-20% savings rate). So it's either Titan or nothing at all xD

It's currently 1900x1200, but I'm thinking about upgrading. I'll also be doing a ton of downsampling, so I'm not 100% sure yet.

Really crazy to me that a $1000 card can't max out current games with 120+ frame rates. It seems that the best way to go is to go SLI or to just buy mid range cards to save money.

Max AA/detail isn't something that everyone wants/needs.

I'll lower just about any setting until I'm having consistent 8.3ms frametimes. The illusion of motion at that frame rate is much more visually impressive to me than less jaggies or depth of field.

Agreed. There was some type of fix for Borderlands 2 that cut out some of the jaggies but it came with a 10-20 fps hit and during motion it isn't noticeable at all. I've got a 570 now and might upgrade to a 670, then again maybe I'll wait for the 700 series but who knows when that will be out. Not sure if it's worth upgrading yet for a 10-20 fps boost in frame rate.

Switch to the SMAA Injector for Borderlands 2. We did a big tweak guide for the game and that was my favourite technique at the end.

Wait, double performance is not nerfed? I didn't expect that. If true I may actually be able to talk someone into buying some :P

Full 1.3 teraflops, just like the Tesla K20X.

Definitely use SMAA for Borderlands 2, the result is completely amazing ( Due to the defined edges ) and the FPS hit is tiny.

Hardwareluxx posted their sound and energy measurements (German)

only 12 W more ingame than a GTX680 ? not sure what to think about that really

they don't post which game they use unfortunately...

also from reading around I get the impression pretty much every Titan boosts to around 1 GHz ... so I wonder if the Nvidia slides show performance at regular or boost speed ?

again from hwluxx (who also mention a 1.2v limit)

Code:
P-States der GeForce GTX Titan
875 mV	324 MHz
887 mV	327 MHz
1000 mV	836 MHz
1162 mV	1005 MHz

Some of these places have had the card running almost 1200MHz on the core, sounds like there's a ton of headroom.

Oh and by the sounds of the reactions in the thread, not many people are going to get one :P ?

I have been at work all day, so doing some catch up reading in this thread. As of right now, I think there are 3 of us for sure that are locked in. You, me and Rayge (sorry if I spelled that wrong or am completely off). I think Mkenyon bowed out, but who knows when benches are released. lol

All I know is that they BETTER make that AMAZING looking SLI Bridge available. They never made the 690 one available that was in all the press pictures, but I really hope they make the one they pictured for the TITAN's available. Oh and WATERBLOCKS need to come out for this thing like NOW! If the rumors of Overclocking are true, Water will keep these suckers super cool and super fast.

don't get too excited about those clock speeds ... I remember pretty much every review GTX670 doing close too 1300 MHz core, which was certainly not true for every store-bought model :p

also EK already has blocks as you can see on anandtech :)

Review Titans are most likely higher binned hence the generous overclocks.

However, considering the chips are most likely K20 rejects, they might still be of high enough quality to get some decent overclocking in. Then again, I'm probably just talking out of my ass.

I have a GTX680 sitting in my ft03 mini and there is only like 1/4inch of space left. Getting it in there was such a nervewracking experience, i was SURE it wasn't going to fit. I too would like to see how they arrived at this.

I was thinking the 7870 would fit without a problem because it was shorter than the 680 and at the time I was sure it was "just" 9.5 inches. I don't dare think how it is to put a 680 in there, I had to push pretty hard against where the PCI brackets go. Doesn't make it better when the web page says 10 inches while the box says 9.8 on some sides and on one side 9.5 inches as max length ^^

Aren't rejects usually not that good? Don't the 7850 and 7950 overclock a bit worse than the 7870 and 7970 in general? Not thinking about how much over stock, but how high they overclock compared to their big, fully unlocked brother.

Normally yes but you have to remember, the K20 are insanely expensive professional cards that require the highest binning and quality. So a 'reject' chip for a card like that could still be of much higher quality than say, a normal 680 chip.

Then again, it's all speculation for my part with the reject chips and whatnot.

My mom doesn't allow this filth :(

SMH.

I'm trying to beat down my hardware boner, you come in here and get me all bothered again.

I don't see how I'm going to avoid this.

Get two. The 7990 is a joke. AMD CF? C'mon son. You know they're the CURRENT single GPU king...but beyond that? No.

Toms hardware has a good writeup: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-titan-gk110-review,3438.html

Pay the same $1,000 for a GeForce GTX 690 if you only want one dual-slot card and your case accommodates the long board. It remains the fastest graphics solution we’ve ever tested, so there's no real reason not to favor it over Titan.
The Titan isn’t worth $600 more than a Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. Two of AMD’s cards are going to be faster and cost less. Of course, they’re also distractingly loud when you hit them with a demanding load. Make sure you have room for two dual-slot cards with one vacant space between them. Typically, I frown on such inelegance, but more speed for $200 less could be worth the trade-off in a roomy case.
Buy a GeForce GTX Titan when you want the fastest gaming experience possible from a mini-ITX machine like Falcon Northwest’s Tiki or iBuyPower’s Revolt. A 690 isn’t practical due to its length, power requirements, and axial-flow fan.
Buy a GeForce GTX Titan if you have a trio of 1920x1080/2560x1440/2560x1600 screens and fully intend to use two or three cards in SLI. In the most demanding titles, two GK110s scale much more linearly than four GK104s (dual GeForce GTX 690s). Three Titan cards are just Ludicrous Gibs!

Was little disappointed, but ability to tweak voltage rekindled my interest. Couple of Titans could end up being better solution than quad-680.
I am definitely grabbing two, just hope I manage to buy before they sell out.

Just waiting for a response back from Lutro0-Customs about what pins I need to buy for sleeving a Seasonic Platinum and it's time to start purchasing. Getting 2 of these with EK waterblocks. Still haven't decided on a damn monitor. It will be the last thing I buy. Waiting on 1080@120hz refreshes Samsung, but I will go with ASUS' 144hz monitor if nothing comes around by then. I just hate they tacky "3D" logo stand that it's on. Samsung always puts out classy looking products

I definitely won't even think about upgrading until Einstein hits.

also EK already has blocks as you can see on anandtech :)

Are they just drawings of the 3 models that you can choose from or do they have an actual block made already? I was looking on their development site and they have some awesome ideas that they look like they're going to implement down the road. Dat polished Acetal son!

Have we heard when EK will have Wateblocks for sale for the Titan?

I read 9AM Thursday today somewhere.... I don't now if it's for reviews, release, or both. I'll see if I can't find the link around here.

Yeah: Read on Anandtech's stickied thread for this release that it's for the lifting of the NDA. I don't know if things will be going on sale then or not. Hopefully it does so I can hurry up and get this shit out of the way. Carrying my laptop around this area for the last week has been kind of a hassle. Can't wait to get back to the states.

I really want to know if it OCs like a beast.

From Tom's:
"This is significant because Nvidia enables overvolting on GeForce GTX Titan, explicitly affecting the card’s ability to hit higher GPU Boost frequencies. Maxing out the voltage settings exposed through EVGA’s Precision X software, we were able to increase our sample’s clock from a typical 876 MHz to nearly 1.2 GHz—all while keeping the GPU’s temperature under a defined threshold of 87 degrees Celsius."

That's using just air...

Guru3D:
Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX Titan - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX Titan 2-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 800 Watt power supply unit as minimum.
GeForce GTX Titan 3-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 1200 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock your GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

As for me... I'm definitely going with a 1000W Power Supply now.

Glad I opted for the Seasonic SS-1000XP on this built, however that still requires an upgrade in case I want to get a third Titan down the road :(
