Great post. I feel the same about the industry. Outside of Nintendo, innovation and creativity seems to mean the same stuff, just with prettier graphics. I've been playing games for 20 years and I just don't care much for graphics anymore. That Killzone gif is the perfect example, same old game with a new layer of paint, I just can't bring myself to care.
In no other medium can the creative minds behind it afford to be so lazy and get rewarded for it, else Transformers and Avatar would be considered the pinnacle of movie making.
Yes, because the PS2 has as significant a technical advantage over the Gamecube as the PS4 does over the Wii U.

Most people buy a Nintendo system for its 1st and 2nd party support also after seeing the PS4 conference we know that the focus is again on the same franchises I didn´t care on PS3 like Infamous and Killzone. Especially in the FPS genre we got so many games this gen that I couldn´t care less. Knack was technically good looking but artstyle and game concept don´t appeal to me. Also while there is a graphical advancement compared to PS3 it didn´t impress me, like PSX to PS2 and PS2 to PS3 - so I´m not hyped and won´t be an early adopter.
I can't wait to play Pikmin 3.
And Da Gamez, they are going to be polished like fhat not, steadily streaming, like 3 ground breaking titles per month from day one, never seen before material.

Zelda is a total unknown as far as how big of a seller it is. No game in the franchise has been put into a position to really take AAA sales since Ocarina of Time. It still possesses huge name recognition. It has potential. They just need to put the proper development time behind it.
I completely agree. I have been getting so tired and bored of gaming lately. It has consistently been the same stuff over and over with slicker graphics.
Even Nintendo has been a bit like this of late, but they still try for new stuff here and there.
Mostly, the true innovation in games of late has come from indie developers, and so many of them have been saying that the Wii U is an awesome platform for them, so I think the Wii U will see this more.

3rd Parties can port whatever they wan't if they're willing to do so. One of my complaints is that without proper support they won't ever create a good base for them, it's a vicious circle, some risks are inevitable to brake boundaries, same goes for Nintendo efforts.

Capcom's game looks the most impressive but not only is it probably not gameplay but the creature designs in most modern games still aren't very inventive.
I guess they are going for sort of a "realisitic" vibe but you can go much crazier and original than that.

If I see another game like Knack I'm throwing a fit.
No doubt in my mind that it's real-time, but it doesn't prevent me from thinking that it's extremely unimpressive. It's just a guided cutscene. The buildings are 3D blocks with textures thrown on top of them. You don't get to fly around those buildings and do shit. When you can, I'll find it impressive as fuck. That's what next-gen will be to me.

Sony has and continues to put out new IP as well. So someone harping on Killzone for destroying the industries creativity is just ignorant.
The conference confirmed that Sony isn´t any better, the biggest difference is that Sony is doing their rehashes mostly in generally incredibly filled genres like FPS and racing games, while Nintendo with a few exceptions basically is the only one that delivers competent 3D Jump and Runs, etc..

Yeah, this industry is basically creatively bankrupt for the most part and Nintendo does innovate when they want to, but let's not act like they do not rehash games and ideas over and over just like the other guys. NSMB on Wii U didn't exactly look or play drastically different from the previous entry on the Wii or the DS. Aren't most of the Zelda games pretty similar? How many 3D Mario games are there now? Where are we now with Mario Kart? Number 7 or is it 8? There is another Smash Bros coming out. Pikmin 3. Wii U does have Nintendo games which is definitely a plus for it, but we are in a different generation of gamers now and I am not sure if that is enough anymore. We will see.

Say what you want about those franchises but they are very unique. Unless you can name me games comparable to Zelda and Pikmin in both style and quality. They also only come out like every five or more years for those who keep saying Nintendo milks their franchises yearly, the only one really milked is New Super Mario Bros lately.
That's not really comparable to fps and fps everywhere with a hundred games every year. Though the new Killzone trailer at least has some colours, it seems they found a way to implement more than grey and brown and a little red for the blood, I give them that.
I should add that I'm only talking about the big developers and AAA games for the most part, smaller developers and indies try new things.

Same as before. Roughly current gen. Much like PS4's beginnings as many of the games shown were up ports and one of the hopefully better ones is coming to WiiU, even if it won't look as good, while the most impressive looks like Crysis 3 x COD. The gulf in specs doesn't seem to translate to games that truly look like nothing you've seen before to a meaningful extent.
Sony's approach of the social features will probably make them more eager to update the Miiverse and relevant services, even if they never actually add video sharing functionality since they probably don't have the hardware resources for that aspect. Though I think Sony oversold that. I can share just fine on my PC but never so far cared to, even with games that had the functions built-in. I have to say though, I like the idea of a separate gaming network more than being bound to the existing ones. I don't wanna flood my facebook with game status updates so. Sony should make their own Miiverse.

Well, technically, yes Deep Down (if footage was 100% real time which I think it is) looks far above what I play today and the lobby cutscene in Killzone wowed me, but I am really interested in knowing how this will translate in more engrossing and engaging experiences. I fear that Killzone will have a generic story and Deep Down might fail at instilling this uncomfort-you-love when you play a tense game.
On the other hand, X, with its mecha controls and open world nature (and Monolith pedigree !) is more attractive so far to me. Remember the context, we are comparing X to first-gen PS4 games we know nothing of aside some cute videos. In no way the outcome of what title I might like more will decide what console I will like more down the road.

While the best looking PS4 games are undoubtedly beyond what the Wii U can do, I wonder how many games are even going to reach that.
I mean, am I the only one who remembers how many studios went out of business this gen because the cost of making great looking HD games was so high? And now games need to be even bigger and prettier.
Outside of a handful of guaranteed sellers, I think it would be a mistake for most third-parties to try to compete with the likes of Killzone.
If I were a third-party publisher, I wouldn't be so quick to bloat the game budgets again. I might decide that most games will be made to run on Wii U, and then ported up to the PS4 and 720 to take advantage of the things that are relatively cheap and easy to implement, yet still have a major impact in making the game look better - lighting, particles, physics, that kind of stuff.
That way you get the game on as many systems as possible, and you keep budgets down.
...But I doubt many publishers besides some smaller Japanese ones will see it that way. Budgets will bloat, games will flop, and studios will close.

I don't think Wii U owners need to worry, with Sony's sorry arse financial situation and that GDDR5 memory, you'll need to be 50 Cent or someone to afford one. They won't be in the same ballpark price wise. And let's face it, apart from Watchdogs, I didn't see anything 'must buy'. Killzone looks like the usual Helgan bordem fest. Juding from the bulldemo, did Sony put a special chip in the PS4 to make enemies even more dumber than they are this generation?

Pretty much the same shape. That's some really interesting tech but honestly - who didn't expect better tech? We all knew it, they all knew it. 8GB of GDDR5 was the only real surprise anyone offered.
On what the other showings actually offered, a good deal of them struck me as merely titles I would never have picked up the console for, multiplatform ports, one of which is on the Wii U, and the par-for-the-course set piece shooter which will only look nice while it looks to play like complete ass, which seems to progressively be more of an issue the more graphics press the boundaries. InFamous 3 is the only title that interested me but even that showed very little. I was left incredibly lukewarm for the entire ordeal personally and I feel vindicated for holding low expectations on next-gen offerings in thus far. In that regard, I feel exactly the same way as I did when they announced Wii U.
Then there's the problem of Durango. Unless developers hope to suffer large budget cavities by pushing the PS4 tech to it's absolute limits then multiplatform isn't going to generally pay off that much considering how PS4's specs seems to outshine Durango's in every way. I have a feeling a lot of multiplatform games will use Durango as a lead platform, essentially lowering the ceiling and making games a lot more viable for a Wii U down port.

I think it is irrelevant. The Wii U will stand on it's own two feet or it won't. PS4 and Wii U appeal to different types of gamers.
I'm more interested in the Wii U myself. Graphics are nice and all, but I don't find myself all that impressed anymore. I'm happier to get games with good gameplay and the PS4 reveal hasn't shown anything that really pushes that, although there were some nice social/friend features that were interesting.

It seems more attractive to me now. It will be cheaper when the PS4 comes out, and the exclusive games are far superior than those by sony.

The Playstation Meeting sent pretty strong signals that PS4 won't be a factor in Wii U's successes or failures. Remember Vita's super strong showing at it's first E3 and how the 3DS seemed to be in a pretty bad spot, but then Vita shows up at the following TGS and essentially craps the bed? The Playstation Meeting was more the TGS show than the E3 one; we got sequels no one wants (Killzone), new IPs without a target audience (Knack, aimed squarely at children who can't afford a $500 console), and multiplats (Watch Dogs, the generally agreed upon "game of the show" will be on literally everything). The PS4 lacks any coherency; it's got features for seemingly no reason other than to check boxes. Why is that touch pad there? It wasn't shown even once as far as I remember. How do you even use it while holding it? They "built the system around remote play" but it requires a Vita so it will literally never be used? 8GB of memory, sweet! But that only matters if PS4 ends up as the primary platform and not the XB3, which seems like a long shot following this generation.
Then there's the pessimist that says, if this is the best first impression they can make, what happens when the other shoe drops (all the things they don't want to talk about)? Paywalls, required internet connections, price, etc.
