PS4 Controller - Dualshock 4 Unveilved

Although I prefer other systems to Sony's, I absolutely love the DS3. It's comfortable as all hell, and fits nicely in my giant hands. I loved the triggers on it, as well.

As for the DS4, I'm going to have to wait and see. It certainly looks beautiful. I even like the gloss around the buttons. I can't wait to get one in my hands and try it out.

GAF -> internet -> GAF strikes again?

No, just the slot is. I imagine the included headset will plug in to there for volume control or other features. The headphone port is the most exciting part to me. It's such a hassle to plug headphones into the TV. Plugging it into your controller is so much more convenient.

not all sound has to be put out on the headset. i think only voice and some effects. the x360 also has a headset port and not all sound gets rerouted to the wired headset. PS3 also doesnt to this with a Bluetooth headset

Neglecting to use the superior stick layout because you don't want to buy a separate controller for a genre such as fighters is kind of stupid though. That said, I'll be looking for an alternative controller that has my preferred layout since I like playing shooters at the best of my abilites.

Once again, superior is subjective in this case. Got it right in the second sentence, noting that it was just your preferred layout though. Really don't want to get into the whole asymmetrical vs symmetrical argument, just super happy that they kept the symmetrical layout.

i know. it makes no sense to me to put those fingerprint magnet surfaces where fingertips would sit the most.

:)

Don't think it is the super glass glossy that say, they vita has. Looks more like the glossy of the current ds3 or the sixaxis. Just looks odd since everything else is matte.

I really wish they would sell the DS4 early and that it was compatible with PS3. I want to use it for GoW: Ascension, The Last of Us, and Puppeteer.

I have to say, I really like the look of the controller. It isn't as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as a Dualshock 3, but it easily looks more practical and comfortable. Even though the D-Pad isn't exactly like Vita's, it looks similarly designed. It looks great. I even like the light bar.

This controller looks fantastic. It seemingly addresses every issue had with the Dualshock while still retaining a touch of the old look.

I can't wait for all of the "DS is perfect" defenders to switch over to this new controller and declare it best.

I'd argue that there is no such thing as a superior stick layout in terms of symmetry -- subjectivity be damned. As long as the controller is designed for your thumbs to comfortable position themselves on the sticks, whether or not your hands are perfectly symmetrical to one another or not does not matter. I'm still baffled that this is mentioned so much, even to the point where people try to argue one or the other is terrible.

DS4 looks so good. I absolutely hate the ds3 even though I spent years with the ds2. Its just that I was spoiled by the 360's superior ergonomics. This looks like they fixed my main issues with the ds3. The triggers are trigger like and look much more springy. Handles are longer and thicker for a more comfortable looking grip. Sticks look improved with better spacing. I dont care for the placement of the sticks. As long as it's comfortable, then the placement is a non issue.

Ah shit it really looks like he's shooting with R1 in the video. Shit man if you can't change the mapping I'm not even going to bother ordering a PS4. I'm not trolling or joking, I play a lot of FPS games and if you give me triggers I want to fucking shoot with the triggers.

So, wait, we don't know what that port right next to the headphone-jack is used for? It's the mysterious Vita port all over again...

Is it just me or would this controller not look very good in white?

I want a white Vita and PS4, but I don't know about the DS4 being white... something about the thumbsticks I think.

It's for a remote on headsets.

Aaah. Like the Turtle Beach and Tritton headsets use?

Where do you live? If your answer is "USA" or "Europe", then you can forget about a white PlayStation 4 :(

Geniunely surprised at how many people seem to think it's ugly.

I think they hit a home run. Might be the nicest-looking controller I've ever seen, from both a functional and aesthetic viewpoint. Really amazing work.

Oh well no accounting for taste I suppose.

Tell me about it. Since the Vita is going to be such an integral part (well, by your own choice I guess) to the PS4 experience I would like the Vita, PS4, and DS4 to have matching colors. I greatly prefer the white Vitas. I don't have one yet but I've seen one in person and yowza. If I get a Vita I definitely want a white one and I want the PS4's colors to match it. But if we don't get white PS4's here in the U.S. I'll have to get a black Vita. :p

I've noticed the distance between the R1/L1 buttons and the face buttons have been reduced... I tried comparing it to the DS3 and it seems so... Wonder if that might cause some annoyances for me since its uncomfortable for me to use the 360 bumpers..

You don't even own a PS3. I can tell.

The R1 complaints are the funniest thing to come out of this demo.

Hahaha i agree. Although I prefer the superior* way to shoot, i'm sure their will be system wide settings that will allow you to change shooting to triggers and vice versa.

*i know this is subjective

Been playing FPS games since PS1, R1 has always been shoot button. Mostly on PS2 as they werent that common on PS1.

Shooters on PS platforms have to have mandatory R1 shoot, L1 aim. Anything else feels forced and like shit. There was a game that I played with R2 shoot and it was horrible. It was soo bad, I think the devs had to make a patch to make R1 an option. Forgot which one though.

Do we know if the pulse detection stuff will make it into the contoller this gen. It was mentioned a year or so back when someone found a patent sony filed. Could that be a reveal at E3? of do you think this is the final feature set.

They'll have alterante control schemes but the anti R1 shoot people are complete crazies.

Garnet on Weekend Confirmed made some really good points on why the PS4 controller needs to change. In the PS1 days, they shoe-horned those sticks onto a controller where the d-pad was the primary control. When games shifted to analog, Sony never updated the controller scheme to fit, they stubbornly kept the sticks where they are.

I agree 100%, the dualshock sticks have always felt awkward to me, its time for Sony to get with it and put the sticks where they naturally, and ergonomically need to be. Especially for someone with big hands - unless there's a good 3rd party controller that puts the left stick in the right place, I'm holding off on PS4.

I hope you can use its Move capabilities to operate a reticule on screen.
I was hoping they would show it during the Killzone demo, perhaps it´s a bad control scheme.
