I still don't understand this thought. The human body is symmetrical. A pair of human hands are symmetrical. Why does it make sense for a controller to be asymmetrical?I agree 100%, the dualshock sticks have always felt awkward to me, its time for Sony to get with it and put the sticks where they naturally, and ergonomically need to be. Especially for someone with big hands - unless there's a good 3rd party controller that puts the left stick in the right place, I'm holding off on PS4.

I'm surprised at how many people think the new controller is fugly, I think it's sweet, sweet controller porn. It's beautiful.
What interests me the most is how ergonomic it is. Are there any hands on impressions with it or hasn't Sony allowed anyone to use it? (except for Fallon who doesn't know shit about gaming)

Sadly, he also admitted we won't be able to touch any of it anytime soon. "By E3, I think" was the best he could offer. He blamed Sony's hardware folks for not allowing access, despite him pleading with PR to give hands-on time. "I was just asking our PR team can we just let you touch this stuff. Our hardware guys don't want you to find out some detail that ..." he said, trailing off. "Some dirty secret?" we asked. "Of course," he responded with a smile.
Garnet on Weekend Confirmed made some really good points on why the PS4 controller needs to change. In the PS1 days, they shoe-horned those sticks onto a controller where the d-pad was the primary control. When games shifted to analog, Sony never updated the controller scheme to fit, they stubbornly kept the sticks where they are.

I really love/hate how this controller looks.
It looks ugly as sin, but extremely comfortable. I'm really pleased with how they handled the light, that was the one thing I couldn't stand about the prototype.
I get the feeling that the stereo will be a really cool addition. Sound is super significant in games but no one really notices.
I don't know what kind of mutant hands people have but symmetrical sticks aren't any more or less ergonomic than asymmetrical. Look at how a hand clenches into a fist, or holds a ball, or grasps onto most objects. Your hand naturally separates the thumb from your fingers, if your right thumb isn't killing itself for using a right stick all the time, then neither is your left. That's his opinion. Not everybody agrees with those thoughts as indicated by the responses he got on twitter. People claiming that one is better than the other are just stubborn princesses not willing to adapt. When I first held the 360 controller, it felt awkward but I adjusted to it and it felt fine. Switching between the PS3 and the 360 layout was a matter of moving my thumb in mere centimeters.

No. There's people out there, myself included, who's hands simply don't fit the dualshock controllers. The dualshocks are flimsy and awkward and cramp up my hands. It's dumb that they continue to use the original PS1 frankensteined design.
Do you have deformed hands or something? Anyhow, as you can see from the image above, the size of the DS4, namely the handles, seems to have enlarged somewhat. The whole thing looks more ergonomic too.
The DS4 does look more confortable just by virtue of it being larger - just wish they ditched the 15 year old stick layout to something that isn't awkward.
Different strokes for different folks. I prefer symmetrical sticks, and it's actually more beneficial for certain gameplay, i.e. Ni No Kuni trials (mimicking both player controls) or fps where you're using both sticks in tandem coupled with the triggers.
This would have been so much harder with asymmetrical sticks.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the black circles around the D-Pad and Face buttons. It makes it look a bit awkward.

I don't follow how the size of the controller and stick layout benefits someone with one arm, can you explain it please?I have a friend with one arm, he cannot play one handed with the DS3 unless its a game like The Walking Dead. I really hope the DS4, with its larger size, will work for him. The 360 controller is perfect for him, given the triggers and offset sticks

You're definitely just tired.I'm probably off and just tired but I feel there's possibly more to this controller. The way they elongated the handles...makes me feel they can separate and be used independently.

What's interesting is how further apart the dpad and PS buttons are from each other, same with the analog sticks. I guess that's to address the issue big-handed people have when steering the left stick to the right while pushing the right stick to the left (thumbs bump into each other and cause slippage).
The triggers are obviously more trigger-shaped and angular, but they're also actually closer to the L1/R1 buttons in the sense of where you'd be resting your fingers on them. Speaking of L1/R1, they're much larger. It's not illustrated too well in the gif due to the angle, but the fact that it's an oval shape might make pressing it a bit easier.
Now the most significant change is obviously the grips. What the've done is reduce the angle of the dive that each grip takes from the main body, and at the same time made each grip wider/longer in doing so.
Can't wait to get my hands on one, or at least hear some impressions from E3. As far as I can tell, it's an excellent evolution of the DualShock.
