Microsoft making at least four new IPs

You don't see how signing a deal that prevents your game from coming to another platform just for the sake of a moneyhat is bad? For gamers I mean.

um no i do not?

A. Your game get's promoted properly
B. help with production cost
C. You make $

Gamers should have no issue because if you're a gamer regardless of the system you will play the game.

It's rising series that's only going to get popular so I thought it would be an ideal exclusive for Europe from MS perspective.

I still think they will sign something from CD Project tbh.

Nah. Witcher 2 is a great game, but it got zero promotion. CD is a small studio. They essentially did a small press conference about the console release that no one outside of gamers that hug forums would have known about.

But as far as promo outside of those circles there just wasn't any. I watched that conference and was amazed at the work the put into making that game special for the 360. I bought it day 1 and can imagine the people that bought it were really core gamers.

But when you see the lack of promo for fhe PC ports you wonder why do they bother sometimes. Not in CDs case, but a game like Metro that honestly in my opinion just showed up one day on the shelves.

But it honestly wouldnt make sense for W3 to be an exclusive. But CD does amazing work and I at least hope they get the point that a simultaneous release w/ consoles will give them more success than they ever could achieve otherwise.

No, I don't.

Now take the MS hat off and look at it objectively. It's a shit thing to do to gamers, and not everyone will buy 2 consoles and/or a gaming PC.

But it's a moot point because it will not happen with CDPR. If they choose not to release on a system it will be because they either can't due to resources, or they'll see something they don't like.

That's cool if you like knowing that most of MS's new studios are going to be kinect/social/F2P driven, for me it's a red light.
I find comfort knowing Joy Ride Turbo came out of that ethos and was awesome.

It would be fallacious to suggest MS don't care about the core when Gears, Halo and Forza pay the bills. They have to be actively looking for the next phenomenon, and are willing to put together super studios like 343i and probably Black Tusk, in order to do so.

How is exclusive deals scummy?

Lol this entire industry is built on exclusivity.

Its not at all bad. Consider it a temporary 1st party dev. People seem to think that there is some honorable badge if a company foots the bill, taxes and all, for a dev studio. It is really odd. If you see something that looks amazing you want it for your system and only your system you get it exclusive. I guess if they paid for exclusivity the very day it was supposed to be released that would suck(because of all that lost work) but these deals are usually done far earlier than that meaning no or very little work on the other platforms has occurred.
Its a moot issue.

They are a contractor dev. Putting random personal feelings on it is the problem. Then again I did get some amazing exclusives during my PS2 days:) But I didn't hate Sony for it. I don't hate Nintendo or MS for it.

I can understand how moneyhatting (i.e. paying another publisher not to release a game that would otherwise be multiplatform on competing platforms) could be seen as scummy, although everyone does that from time to time and people only seem to be bothered when they end up on the shitty end of the stick, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with signing publishing deals with external studios.

why is it a shit thing to do to gamers? it has been done since the beginning of time when it comes to game companys. did anyone have a problem with the GTA, FF,MGS etc being PS exclusives? no. it's a business and developers are a business they should pay the bills however they want.

They likely do share tech, but I don't think Rare needs an engine handed to them. Nuts and Bolts is one of the best looking games this generation, in my opinion, and the stuff they did with Kinect shows they have some incredibly capable developers. Plus some recent tweets indicate that they're working on some very impressive physics based content.

Rare's ability to create a technical marvel isn't one of my concerns; it just has to be creative, visually and in gameplay, unlike Perfect Dark Zero.

Totally agree.

After you said that and I thought about their past games Rare seems to be very up with it technically. Most of their 360 games look really good and I remember reading something (might have been a Digital Foundry article) about how they used big assets or textures for Kinect Sports Season 2 so I doubt they will have an issues with art or compression or whatever.

Rare probably needs no help on anything technical.

I would love a new Perfect Dark game, just hope they are given the time and resources to work on the gameplay and story.

IMO PDZ was really awful single player and great multiplayer.

I never played the single player but I do remember really liking the multiplayer a lot. I only picked up PDZ because some of my friends bought a 360 in 2006 and they all got that game so I got that to play with them. I played a lot of multiplayer on that game.

I explained why it's a shit thing to do in the same comment!

Were those old games moneyhatted or did they choose to release only on playstation for a while for their own reasons? I did not follow the industry 10-15 years ago like I do now. For example I know FF came to PS1 because the CD format was a better fit for the game they were trying to make.

If the choice is a dev's choice then that's one thing, but it's horrible when it's just money that prevents millions of people from playing a game. I didn't think I had to explain something as basic as that, even in this type of thread.

I don't know where you got that from, I'm pretty sure Ryse will be one of their most prominent Kinect games aimed at core gamers.

I think the second trailer looked great, I can't tell what was supposed to be goofy about it. One thing I do not want Ryse to be is Xbox's version of God of War, and that's what the first teaser unfortunately reminds me of.

That leaked concept art was very tasty, however, but it turned out it was for an unrelated project.

I'm with you. I didnt think it was goofy at all. It funny seeing people make up reactions like it was the laughing stock of E3. When it was t at all. Try simply showed a teaser and by the winter of that year we found out it was pushed to next gen.

It's always the devs choice , what are you talking
mindblown.png
? it's their choice to accept financial support or not isnt it? but anyway let's get back on topic.

Tried the demo, it appears like it will be good for those quick bursts of play.

More like they want to get their studio name out to the general public and to do that they need to be on both console platforms.

Microsoft would be stupid to not dabble their feet into the F2P market.

Signing an exclusivity deal with Sony or Microsoft would probably benefit them more if they're trying to break into the mainstream. They're probably more likely to get a decently funded advertising campaign from Microsoft or Sony, than they would if they remained 3rd party and stayed under Atari.

Atari still publishing it?

There are games that come out on a single platform because a platform holder made a deal, and there are those that do it for other reasons. No platform is exempt from that, Xbox, 360, any PlayStation, Nintendo's consoles, you name it.

I agree, it would be ideal if all games came out on all platforms whenever it makes sense (i.e. when a game is not taking advantage of platform-specific features), but we're not there yet, and perhaps we never will be. Poor gamers will always have to buy multiple systems if they want to experience both Sony's and Microsoft's games, for instance, so it's not like moneyhatted deals create some horrible imbalance that otherwise wouldn't be there. It's always money that prevents millions of people from enjoying all games that they'd want to, think about that for a second.

Yep, it also allows developers to take more risks with a fat paycheck from a platform holder. Gears of War and Mass Effect seem like surefire hits now but when they were first coming out there wasnt much like them at all.

Just look how Mass Effect went totally shoot-bang after they went under EA's banner.

I'm sure to have both next-gen platforms so nothing for me to get angsty about, bring on the exclusives.

I know others have done it and it's just as terrible as it is when MS does it. It was only brought up now because of the mention that they should sign CDPR exclusively, for consoles at least. Which really shouldn't even be discussed as deeply as it has since it has such a small chance of happening.

No way, I think Gears still goes on their listing hinted at working with epic. besides i think we need a actual action game.

Yea, I fully expect another Gears.

It will be strange though (if as I am expecting) for Durango to launch without a Halo or Gears. Well I guess that happened with the 360 too? Don't remember at this point

Just because companies have been doing x since the beginning of x doesn't make it a good thing.

Yes many people had a problem with GTA, FF and MGS being PS exclusives, people still whine over MGS4 not being on the 360.

People whine about everything from my experience.

This is interesting that you are accusing him of not being objective and having a 'MS hat' on because he doesnt agree with your opinion.

Kinda like the Pot calling the Kettle black.

MS isnt the first and wont be the last to secure exclusives timed or otherwise.

Nobody cried wolf when Final Fantasy XIII was a timed exclusive in Japan. This literally was the most impactful 'Moneyhats' of this gen, but like others have noted, you never know why developers choose to go this route. If it helps them as a business move or promotes the game then more power to them.

What's interesting is how now it's sh-tty for gamers because 'not everyone will buy 2 consoles and/or a gaming PC', but then when people talk console exclusives, they supposedly don't count because they are on PC.

Hopefully they'll start banning people that say this, unless you're going to add something insightful or productive to the conversation don't post.

Well at least they're moving past saying they're all Kinect games. It's a start right?

See the problem i have with this is, in the PS2 era Sony fans did not see it as a "bad thing" and often bragged about all the 3rd party exclusives that Sony had in comparison to the Dreamcast or Xbox. When i as a xbox owner expressed my disappointment at certain games not coming to the console, i was quickly told "just buy a PS2". Seems they weren't looking at things objectively then.

yes, the first party lineup for 360 launch was PGR3, Kameo, and PDZ.

I expect this year's launch to be very similar...

PGR5 and 2 Rare games

(maybe) Alan Wake 2 and a Lionhead game as well, the timing would be right

I do think Alan Wake 2 could be the ultimate showcase for the new system, imagine the amazing lighting and particle effects!

Is there even a link to accompany the image in the OP? I gotta say, MS fans are really grasping at straws if this is exciting news for them to hear. A single image, with no source, date or name given, vaguely referencing 4 new IPs. It could have been created by a 12 year old and posted on 4chan for all we know. Is there anymore information buried in the thread someplace?

A game like Witcher 3 as an exclusive won't gain Microsoft marketshare in Europe. The only game powerful enough to do that is having Fifa as an exclusive for an entire gen.

Sony's dominance in Europe goes back to the worldwide dominance of the PS2. But, MS gained alot of marketshare out there and we see the moves that they are taking to gain more.

Whatever it is that Rare is working on, I believe we're going to be seeing it very, very soon. They just finished putting together a 'demo build' of one of their projects! https://www.twitter.com/andybastable/status/307528561592528896

wow we must be extremely close if that's the case
