People thought 8GB was unlikely because of the costs involved. As others have pointed out, they've essentially been able to get 4Gbit GDDR5 to replace the 16 2GBit chips they were planning on using. And they'll either eat the cost or have a higher price. It wasn't technically unfeasible.
That other "leaker" is full of shit. There is no could be.
Unless you actually think Microsoft is populated by idiots who couldn't find a more elegant design than creating a monstrosity with two identical APUs bolted together.
It's not the same thing though buddy.

If MS doesn't explicitly say: 'these are our specs etc etc', but says something like: 'we've got a very powerful system', you can bet your ass all general rumours are true (ie. 8 jaguar cores @ 1.6/1.2TF GPU), because they don't want the comparison to the PS4.

Wouldn't a dual APU require to also create two distinct pools of DDR3? Otherwise, the not to chabby 68GB/s would have to be shared between both APUs resulting in a 34GB/s bandwidth per APU... Could the DME serve ESRAM correctly with various DMAs also eating that bandwidth in these conditions?
Or am I just wrong and this is not how it works (or how it would work...)?
Yeah, I think this is very likely. If anything is clearly superior to PS4, we'll hear about it.

Maybe read up a bit on how a new console is rolled out to devs.
They are progressively rolled out in about 3 or so different stages until they reach the final one which is generally a vision they are working towards.
They do not go and put in another motherboard and APU for kicks.

Are you talking about dev kits? If you are, then all the leaks suggest the Durango is only now in the last few days/weeks getting the second (Beta) dev kit.
Seems quite surprising actually that Durango has made do with just the Alpha dev kit since mid/late 2011.

I wonder if this "rumor" suffers from the same misinterpretation that many other rumors have suffered from. Microsoft appears to be hyping aspects of the console that end up being rather standard features, see gpu architecture, and "insiders" are buying into the hype without filter.
Perhaps the Durango does have a second CPU? Maybe it's just an ARM core for low power mode. Just like the PS4.
He specifically said "dual mainboard", not dual mainboards though. Could still be a false rumor.

Does he/she not realise that devs will be using dev kits now with comparable specs to the final system? By his thinking, MS will just surprise devs working on launch games and be like 'So...the dev kits you have been using...are in fact...50% weaker than the final system. Great news huh?'

That sounds boring. We already know those numbers and it has kinda been played out. It would be much more exciting if it was completely different.

I think it's a question of costs. Why using a more complex APU when you can just stack 2 or maybe even 4 APUs together? Rumors are saying MS is secretly working on a 4D-Stacked APU solution.
