Halo |OT15| Beta-tested, GAF approved

Two Betrayals is by far the best campaign mission. You work so hard to get those phase pulse generators destroyed. No to mention that amazing battle for the Banshee.

I think the first mission in Halo 1 is the best. Halo shines when you are in cramped spaces and must rely on reflexes and a quick trigger finger. No vehicles, no wide open spaces. Just you, your weapon, and your will to survive. Every Halo mission should be modeled after that.

What about the wide open spaces and vehicles?

I like it because it's still to this day the best 3-way battle in Halo. You walk outside in the middle of a Covenant-Flood battle happening and you can either watch who wins or join in yourself. You don't get that anymore in shooters.

The status of being a 3-way encounter doesn't automatically make an encounter awesome.

Except that it does.

Except in Forerunner in Halo 4. The status of being a 3-way encounter doesn't automatically make an encounter awesome. Good use of 3-way battles can add plenty of flavour to awesomeness, though.

The Halo Waypoint web team is just trolling us now. RIP Assault

So was it ever explained why grifball made it in and not assault? I mean grifball was originally based off the assault gametype soooo

Bandwidth? 100+ teams? Trust Us? At this point I would bet they just ran out of time. I mean they cut loads of things from the game that were present in previous titles. The general assumption seems to be much of this was cut because they rand out of time/manpower to implement everything.

Oh my - 56k peak population on a Saturday, 54k on a Sunday. Halo is dead. Long live Halo.

Halo 4 comes to a close second with Halo 2 in terms of being rushed. So many things that were released month after launch and were cut that just doesn't make sense. It's obvious that 343 was pressed on time. I can see why though. Halo 4 had to be released Q4 2012 because it would get no attention with the new Xbox out and 343 probably started development on Halo 4 before the new Xbox had a developer kit. They were in an awkward position.

Would it be possible to add a bomb in a TU? I don't know if you can add objects into the game in updates.

Didn't, in an interview, they said that TU's for H4 were treated differently than other games. Like Minecraft, they could add content and make major changes to the game? That's why I held on to the idea of a TU being able to fix this game, but I guess they either lied or aren't taking advantage of it.

edit: can't they just reskin the ball?

They'd then also have to disable the throwing mechanic and change its physics so it doesn't bounce around like it does currently.

Doesn't seem like anything insurmountable, especially since there are arm/disarm time options in the Grifball settings, but I wish they'd taken a different approach. I hope at some point they take a couple weeks or a month and just go nuts making new gametypes (read: old gametypes), maybe sacrifice some of these fluff playlist updates we've seen in the past to do so.

Ugh, I didn't think of that. I really think they can pull this game out of the ditch it's in, I mean they have the first party status and money. They may be making Halo 5 right now but that doesn't mean they can't work on improving the communication with their fanbase and incorporating feedback.

So two things:

I'm finally out of the vault (thanks in part to a dead overseer... I think that could've gone better).

And now I see the origin of MEGATON. I apparently, HAVE been living a hole...or something. Everyone has heard of Megaton.

Yes, I am joking. Halo to me had been about putting the player into a environment that supports the ability for both and player, and AI to have unique behavior, and a fun battle. Whether that be through movement either on foot or in vehicles, or areas that support unique weapon encounters. Ultimately though, this all comes down to how well the scenario is created, and to a degree, scripted. It doesn't matter if you have created an extremely interesting and diverse environment if I as a player, and the AI don't posses the tools necessary to utilize it. Enemy placement, vehicle placement, friendly AI placement, and to a degree, mission objectives all feed the encounters and determine their success and fun factor.

Fallout 3 is so good...you make me want to go play it again.

It was definitely a time crunch issue. You can tell things were scrapped and cut just by looking at the file names.

This is what shows up when you look at how many Crawler kills you have:

Another one is hunter-specialist.png, even though we only face a single type of Hunter in the entire game. Also to annoy DemonCarnotaur and Flipyap, here's a couple pictures of what Grunts and Jackals look like in the Waypoint app.

On another note, getting all of these images is getting to be a pain, since Waypoint sends me a ping image every time the background image does a full loop or whenever someone changes from offline to online or "Playing Halo 4". Waypoint really needs to be changed in how it works and navigates for future games.

If they're already working on Halo 5, I'm expecting Forge to be this big:

Hell, they don't even need to design any new maps or Forge environments. Just port a bunch of fan-favourite maps and release a map maker and Megalo. Add in custom edition levels of modifiability and boom, best game ever.

You should. I'm having fun with it.

I have GODY Fallout 3 :).... I just beat the game and now I'm finding every location.

Fallout:NV ultimate edition here I come! (I just bought it)
I barely have time to game at all and I just bought a bunch of new games too, I'll probably start another character evenually though.

I am, alongside campaign theater and scoring.

Enjoying Bioshock off the Microsoft sale, but damn I'm so happy Halo has its own engine. Unreal just makes everything look cruddy (and they give blood the consistency of gelatin.) Amazing art direction and atmosphere papered with the generic look of this console generation. Unfortunately Infinite looks like the same issue.

Also, this game makes me appreciate Halo's golden triangle so much more. No fumbling for weapons, on-demand melee? Essential to any shooter now.

So... what happened to this?

I was expecting the Chief to appear in any moment, even if just for a few seconds...

Damn, I forgot about that quote.

Didn't they also imply that character would die in Spartan Ops?

Im not for cell shaded Halo to be honest. Looks cool but I just don't want to play a full game like that with Halo.

Now what I wish we could see (again) in Halo is more of these kind of Forerunner ruins.

We had a little bit of it in Halo 3 with Sandtrap but nothing after that :(

Agreed, I have a thing for forerunner ruins.

Pawn>Crawler as far as names are concerned IMO. Also, I wonder what a "Hunter Specialist" would have been.. I definitely would like to see some Hunter variety, especially since they can look like whatever as far as canon is concerned.

:lol at that grunt face, he looks derpy.

Fuck the Jackals, they are such a weird replacement visually...if they were a new sub species I would be all for them though, but I still prefer the big eyes alien vulture look more.

Speaking of blood rendering, it's too bad they backed off so much from Halo 1's approach. Probably a graphical horsepower thing; rendering all that alpha isn't cheap, and it's one of Halo 1's main sources of slowdown. Halo 1 accepted the losses in detail to do stuff like that, though. It's also the only game in the series to have any real-time reflections, which it uses in at least one place to gorgeous effect.

Even after Halo 1, Bungie sometimes made those sorts of visual compromises (i.e. Halo 3's lighting), even if it meant that they'd sometimes be attacked for "poor graphics." I'm not at all surprised that Halo 4 was received for being "technically superior" to Bungie's work, but it does kind of sadden me, especially when it comes from people who say they prefer the results of the compromises Bungie made.

Hunter Specialist might be left over from Reach. Reach had the classic Fuel Rod Hunters, and the Special Beam Cannon ones at the same time. I think.

It's like how if you used the stats API for Reach, some things showed up as Flood. Explained by Achronos as them just repurposing the code for different objects.

The Covenant is a damn fine level. Double Scarab fight was one of the coolest of the franchise.

Yeah, you'd really be hard pressed to find a single level that encapsulates so many things perfectly about Halo. It has everything. And it's probably the most epic level in the franchise, too.

Unless there was a specific API code for the two Hunter classes, bungie.net just registered either Hunter as "Hunter".

Halo 5 will top all previous encounters by having you fight two Scarabs and a Lich at the same time while piloting either a Gauss Falcon or a Phoenix (Flamethrower Falcon).

Believe.

Id rather fly.

ODST had the Gold x Blue hunter pair with different firing modes

No Vulcan, no sale.

wow your lucky man would love to experience F3 again for the first time
enjoy... got 149 hours with all the DLCs my only 1500GS

Would bang 343 if they added in Halo Wars vehicles next gen.

I can only imagine how royally fucked over you'd be if you got EMPed in a Vulture, though.
