DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

What I find funny is the mumble conversation in the background. Me and j sharing the storys. Good times

Edit: You might wanna edit your videos down next time. Its like half an hour of me talking...and you didnt let me finish my story :(

Sounds like a typical night on Mumble for you.

Played a couple of hours of this, had nothing more than three soda cans. Ran like hell from zombies, never saw another person, never saw any weapons. Any suggestions on how to gather guns, etc?

Supermarkets and military bases/airfields are basically guaranteed to have weapons. As a beginner in the coast, supermarkets are your best bet, but they're also the most populated by other players. When starting out, my friends and I like to move inland to a nearby big town/city and search the markets there rather than risk the seaside towns.

The standalone needs to hurry the fuck up. I need to get back into gaming with DayZ GAF. I miss Wedge and Mob's deep and powerful voices. Oh, and Gibz. I forgot Gibz.

....your avatar is the best.

edit:

And with an unexpected free night I've been trying to update dayz with commander...and its being awesome and refusing to download beyond 55%. Sigh.

My eyes are burning a HOLE through you right now :lol

Was watching my friend play TF2 the other night and some joker kept playing gun sounds over the mic. Reminded me of someone.......................................

Do I have a deep voice? We're on mumble right now...!

Can't imagine who that would be.

Hey dayzgaf

Don't know if you've heard of dayz epoch but its basically a mod if dayz that adds things like;

Vehicle salvaging
Dogs
Traders
Ai settlements
Tag as friendly feature
And if infected when you die you play as a zombie

It's pretty cool and is currently in testing. The devs very kindly gave me 3 keys to giveaway so if you are interested check out the video-

Also that sounds like a advert but tbh I just think you'd all really like the mod so at least give it a google :)

finally went to an airbase and picked up an uzi pistol, ak 74 and a coyote backpack. bandages and blood seem to be the most valuable to me right now.

also saw a chopper spawn, but couldn't get the m240 off of it.

what's neogaf's ip address? would like to join and say hello? do you guys use teamspeak?

finally, i love the long, drawn out game sessions. tough to do tho if there's family aggro... ;)

The GAF server has expired, like the lives of so many survivors. The group is still using mumble, and have become nomadic. Quote this and find the information.

DC has proved truly amazing and has provided me with a free copy of World War Z. The wait for the standalone is killing me.

Won't everyone just stop playing the stand alone after a few months like this game though

Why? The reason most stopped playing is due to the hacking and the announcement that the Standalone would come around and fix everything. I think the continued development of Standalone will also help give it traction.

I only stopped playing because I got screwed by hackers 2 too many times.

It's a little maddening to be on a 3 day run, only to have all your progress ripped away by a hacker killing you from the other side of Chernaurus.

If its plagued by hackers and fosters a culture of shoot first, always...then probably.

EDIT: Yeah, What Wedge said.

I really want to play DayZ and run with GAF, but yeah.

EDIT 2: And I cant wait to see DayZ finally get a proper OT

I'm still a little unsure of what could truly bring me back, to be honest. I don't think the new loot and modified Chernarus are nearly enough. Underground bases could be fun, I suppose. Of course, they won't mean a thing for the most part because hackers will probably be able to see where they are located on the map.

Hopefully, hackers will not be so prevalent so it should be a non-issue.

Hasn't Rocket said that part of the reason they switched their server architecture to a more MMO-like structure was because it would be way easier to prevent hacking? I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that...somewhere.

Yup. By putting more things server side, it prevents manipulation of data files...I think.

But yeah, he said that.

The hacking situation was Rocket's main concern for the standalone. If he fixes that, it'll be huge.

I'd also like to see a better and working humanity system. I get tired of being shot at on sight and prefer to team up. I don't think the game is meant to be a sandbox deathmatch game with zombies thrown in(which is basically what it is now).

People *will* eventually get bored because of the lack of an "end game"....ie: clear objective besides just staying alive. Underground camps/bases may be a start but I'd also like to see dynamic situations arise during play sessions like ai controlled choppers raids, planes crashes, etc.

My view on the map:

I do agree with a few that being back in Chernarus is disappointing.

Sorry but a few changes, more open buildings and a few new locations ( which will probably look a bit too much like some of the already modded in areas we see) will not be enough to change Chernarus and make it feel new and refreashing.

I can't help but think what could have been if Rocket took Taviana and built upon that or made a new map.

I just dislike the whole layout of Chernarus, from the town layout ( smaller towns especially) to other settings. like roads, open areas etc...
Something Taviana for the most part did very well.

Reason why I am worried is because even with these few changes, we all know were everything major will be, we know what way to head for the big cities, we know the general layout of the map, we know the high loot areas etc...
Sure with a new map we can just look at a map on the internet, but exploring will still feel great.

Without a doubt the best thing about new maps is exploring, getting lost and wondering into that new area. Sure the new "built" areas might make it more interesting, but they will hardly be enough of a change to get excited over and last long.

You can redesign a town, but it will still be the same. I cant help but think this was just a missed opportunity.

With such delays already ( supposed to come December) they should have started on making their own 100% dayz focused map, sure releasing Chernarus plus would be ok for us to test the new features but having a new map in the works would be brilliant ( i fear the only time Dayz SA will be really fun is when mods are enabled for maps)

I mean there are people who love Chenrarus so for them it's good.
I still have hope that Rocket will do enough to make it fun.

I do try playing Chernarus every now and again, but it really is not that great of a map once you experience Taviana.

main reason I quit playing
I think the first mistake in that sense was removing the skin distinction between bandits and innocents. Sure it was totally unrealistic and thus conflicted with the high realism that constitutes the rest of the gameplay, but it helped a little the player to distinguish when to tempt a non-violent approach.

I'm fine with it being removed (since there'll be the dynamic clothing system) but there must be something to help/encourage the players establish non violent relationships, otherwise it'll devolve into deathmatch again. Avoiding this will be the hardest and yet the more important goal of the standalone.

An yes I was in favor for a new map too.

I've have yet to play day z, but I think another reason why there's such a shoot me first mentality is due to the zombies not really feeling like a threat. Every video I ever watched, whether alone or in a group, it is fairly easy to deal with zombies. I think making them a real, serious, dangerous threat will do wonders for day z, because teaming up would be better option than being a lone wolf (unless you prefer that approach of course. Luckily, I remember Rocket saying this is one of the main areas they will be improving upon, forcing players to reconsider shooting first because of that. So I wouldn't expect Day Z to be play out like the mod if they fix that as well as the other improvements.

Sorry but a few changes, more open buildings and a few new locations ( which will probably look a bit too much like some of the already modded in areas we see) will not be enough to change Chernarus and make it feel new and refreshing.

I do agree with the sentiment about knowing the map, but chernarus as it stands now has a very specific flow. A very large percentage of the map is almost entirely useless due to most towns being set dressing without enterable buildings. I believe the new chernarus will end up with a very different flow, suddenly areas we never bothered about become useful and worthwhile. Also the possibility of the Utes map being off the coast with a prison and another airbase on it changes it further. I like taviana, but I think chernarus captures that dayz feeling everyone fell in love with better than any other map.

Anyone try the new DayZ Mercenary mod? Sounds pretty crazy. http://www.reddit.com/r/DayZMercenary/comments/18smbs/what_is_dayz_mercenary/

What's Different About Mercenary

•We added a Roaming Quarantine Squad Units throughout the map. While they have Rare Loot, there is a high chance you wont survive an encounter. Encounter rate 20-40%. Basically these are several units spread across the map and have one agenda, to find and you kill. They will be highly lethal and will carry proper military weapons. They roam the map in search to "clean" the breakout. These units will also kill zombies if found.

•Military and custom buildings have been added to forgotten spots (Kamenka, NEAF, & more) and areas leaving room for broad aggressive search for weapons throughout the map, rather than your normal cities (Stary, NWAF & etc)

•Zombie spawns have become random and throughout the WHOLE map. Included all forested areas, if you set up camp somewhere, expect to see Zombies there sometimes or coming through.

•Added R3F Realism. This adds some very realistic features to DayZ Mercenary. You must be conscious of your gear weight. The more gear you carry, the heavier you are, the faster you get tired. You will have to make choices on what gear you decide to keep. Everything adds weight. The more gear you have, the higher the chance of a black out. All stances are affected (standing, crouching, crawling) as well as you backpack inventory.

•Added New Weapons to Helicopter Crash Sites.

•Added Weapon Crates randomly located throughout the map.

•Zombie spawns have been increased by radius and per person in order to keep one from knowing if other players are near or within locations of interest.

•New Vehicles + Vehicle spawns have radically been changed to 200+ Custom spawn points. Vehicles will not spawn in location as seen on DayZ DB.

•
Addition of gutting and eating dead players & zombies as seen on DayZ 2017 (thanks Shinkicker for allowing us this opportunity)

•New Spawn Skins, for example Original Bandit Skin meets new School, New Clothing, New Backpacks

•All new weapon addition, included multiple SCAR models (multiple MK 16 & MK 17 models), Multiple AK models, & M4 and M16 variation models.

•Radios have been added in (rare find), as of now we will have specific functions and usage for it in the coming builds.

•If your in a vehicle, zombies and loot tables will spawn regardless.

•Lowered Loot Rates, Lowered food and drink to be a little more realistic, but enough to survive.

•Merged Boil Water Action - 1.7.5.1 Vanilla. Requires an empty tin can or empty soda can and a filled water bottle. Light a fire and you will get an option to boil your water. Non Boiled water has a chance of infection.

•Merged Roll Action - 1.7.5.1 Vanilla. Must have a primary weapon for this to work.

•Merged Tent Sleeping - 1.7.5.1 Vanilla. Yes you can sleep in your tent now.

ADDITIONAL
•A lot of other features are still at work and will be released in the next build, and we will further be producing newer features of the game as time passes.

Littleworm and I are trying it out now.

Looking forward to the standalone. It needs to hurry up. I've been nostalgic about DayZ lately but I'm not gonna go back to the hackfest.

I see what you mean and it is possible that it can still be transformed enough to make it great.

But I disagree with your finale point. I think Chernarus was mainly accepted because it just happened to be the map used for a type of game ( as what DAYZ actually is, open world zombie survival) that everyone really wanted.
What i am trying to say is, it was just in the right place at the right time ( now sure how to translate that into game term :P)

Don't get me wrong, the map is decent and even for a survival zombie game it was a good first map for dayz but it has many problems that make it not a good zombie map ( a few will be fixed with Chernarus +) and since Dayz SA is its own game we should expect a fully new map designed SPECIFICALLY for dayz.

Playing Taviana just highlighted the weaknesses of Chernarus more. Taviana is far form perfect too but it provides a better background to a zombie apocalypse, to me anyway.

I mean I do trust Rocket, I am sure he will know how important the map is to this game and will, hopefully, do enough to change it.

I really like this idea. Actually makes a lot of sense given the context. They should consider possibly making this a "random event" in Standalone, another way to make things more interesting and avoid constant PVP.

So how was it?

I liked it, I don't think J-Rock was as impressed.

Personally I love the sound mod that they have for it, all the guns have more oomph when you shoot. The death squads are a cool idea, I ran into one at NEAF at I managed to kill them while they were shooting at zombies, but apparently, another death squad managed to kill a bunch of people in Stary. However what I see as being the most divisive thing is the weight/fatigue system. It was a stamina system similar to ace, and you fatigue faster or slower depending on the weight of your gear. After I killed the death squad I was carrying a MK48 and for belts for it, along with your standard survival gear I was at 120 lbs and I could only run for about 700m before I had to stop before nearly passing out. Personally I love the idea as it makes you debate what you actually need to carry, nothing would suck more then to pass out running form a group or zombies or when caught in a firefight.

Sounds very cool, I want to at least give it a try. Sounds like one step closer to a DayZ S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mod...!

Compiled a bunch of 1080p clips from the Saturday play session and turned them into one highly edited best of version. Hope you enjoy the neat graphics and cool intro.

Basically, you guess whether Jon Hamm will live or die in the clip, supplanted by the melodic woes of the NeoGAF mumble.

Also, Jon Hamm is not good at this game.

Anton Sugar still doesn't know that this is a vid of you hunting him and his friends?

Holy SHIT, how did I miss this???

That's amazing--no idea we got sniped by a gaffer.

My game ended up crashing before I got shot. First I ran, then I headed back to see if someone looted the bodies, but then I lost connection. Looks like the same thing happened to him.

That's hilarious.

To make it worse, was the fact that I ran into you guys earlier when I was a fresh spawn with no weapon, you were coming out of some military camp, and I ran into you guys and a few other fresh spawns.

Yeah, that was really weird. We were leaving that camp and suddenly we're swarmed by 3-5 unarmed spawns who wanted to tag along. Took us a while to get them to leave us alone.

How long were you in that forest? When we were leaving the town south of that forest, we saw someone creeping along the western edge, but they were heading south...wonder if that was you.

I was in there for a while, so yeah that was probably me. I ran ahead of you guys to find a weapon, and I got that enfield from the second video, which I used to kill the guy with the CZ, I went back to look for you guys but I didn't spot you, so I went back north and stumbled upon you guys.

I told them it was a bad idea to set up a campfire right outside of the city, dammit.

You mainly play bandit? We haven't played Taviana in a while but might try it again soon.

I do what ever sounds fun at the time. Sometimes bandit, sometimes hero. Sometimes I just do whatever the admin tells me not to do like we did last night.

EDIT- I'm compressing the video's now nix.

Whats up with that ending? Nix says something about throwing a grenade and then it just cuts off. Who was he talking to? Did they ever throw it? Did they kill themselves with it in normal gaf mumble procedure?

Also 1944 is pretty damn fun. Im hoping for more Neaville servers(or any other maps for that matter). You should hit me up on Steam next time youre playing.

The Germans were using direct voice, so littleworm and I kept saying nonsense over direct to mess with them. One of the things I kept yelling was "Throw the grenade!" It's a shame that Jon Hamm died because he missed littleworm playing the German/Nazi anthem over direct.

Now that I think about it... after he played the anthem they all ran off.

1944 is awesome and since DayZ it's the only ArmA2 mod I've loaded up even though I was playing by myself. In practice it's the argument I have against too many top tier military weapons being in DayZ. There's no crazy military issue guns where you can just find a silhouette of someone, aim with your red dot/acog and get the kill. A lot of it takes patience and a bit of luck.

I'd kill for a WWII era mod that had well implemented suppression and recreated the intensity of the gunfights. I know it'll never happen though.

Fake edit: We miss you Zen.
