Also, regarding Rare IP's. Micorosoft owns them now. Just because they own Rare AND the IP's, doesn't mean Rare has to make the IP's, if you catch my drift.

I could see Banjo return on XBLA, but possibly made by somebody else like Twisted Pixel.

Twisted Pixel making the next Banjo game.

I'm just feeling very MEH, about this. I feel like the rumors (like required HSI connection, and anti-used) have me not wanting this console. I feel like there's very little MS could do at this point to gain my interest, especially after that stellar PS4 meeting. MS would have to go to some extremes, like proving some of those rumors are wrong, and revealing some awesome stuff. Even the idea of them "partnering" with EA" just stinks. It smells of EA taking huge advantage of anti-used, more shitty exclusive content, and $70 price-tags.

A new Perfect Dark, and making RARE actually relevant again would gain my interest though, possibly.

I'd love to see Twisted Pixel handle Banjokazooie, but they seem to be dead set on creating new IPs. They've made five games for the 360, and only one of them is a sequel. Plus they've working on yet another new IP.

Give them five more years and they'll have enough unique characters to create a Smash Bros clone. :p

Twisted Pixel, they want to be kept as a smaller studio, as they should.

Plus tax incentives are supposed to becoming around April, so it makes more sense to keep Rare cranking those out over here - with our great humour than trying to imitate British humour and falling flat on their faces

What does "tof" stand for?

As others have said: Time of flight. It's a different method for acquiring depth than the one kinect currently uses. The depth image is less noisy, but the camera itself costs a lot more so it's restricted to a lower resolution (even Kinect v1 has a "HD" depth camera, and if it wasn't limited to usb 2.0 it would be able to provide a 640*480 depth stream)...

It would also explain why there is now a usable IR stream. The IR stream would only be useable when depth tracking was not being used because it would mess up the patterns needed by the PrimeSense stuff. Doesn't necessarily mean they got rid of PrimeSense, but it certainly leads credence to it. They probably wanted to get rid of the cost for the PrimeSense stuff.

Oh yeah, that too. You could probably get the IR stream from prime sense tech, but i recon it would just a blank image full of dots... Not really useful.

Don't know why this keeps being peddled.

I'm still trying to think of one bad game Rare has made this gen that means we shouldn't love them anymore.

Banjo? Awesome
Kameo? Great
Viva Piñata? Awesome
Perfect Dark....well, it was pretty cool at the time but I admit is now veeeeeery dated.
Kinect Sports? Both a at the very least serviceable for what they are

I think people forget that Rare hasn't really changed, but the market has.
Banjo was a let down.
Kameo was okay, 8 year old game.
Viva Pinata was okay, 7 year old game.
Perfect Dark 8 year old game, I guess it was good for it's time.

Kinect Sports. Yep, good game, and their most recent work. This is what Rare has become though. Casual Kinect crap. People leaving over the years.

As a core gamer I can't get excited.

wow cant believe kameo and pdz is 8. kameo looks great till this day.very impressive for a launch game. Now that i think about it Rare is the best studio to take advantage of the 360 hardware.

I liked all the Rare 360 games to some extent. But by many accounts a lot of the people who worked on those games are long gone.

This would be fucking hilarious. I'd expect it from microsoft anyway.

Kinect 2 being a pack-in, with better [see: working] technology inside it will allow more solid titles to Ryse to the surface, but will sadly also introduce more shovelware as well.

Being an early beta tester for Kinect and a "core" gamer;
The games I enjoyed in Kinect's lifespan have been:

Child of Eden
Dance Central 1
Fruit Ninja
Kinect Party / Happy Action Theatre
Yourshape Fitness

The games I did not enjoy would more than double that list.

Well, I have used Kinect like three times, but it wasn't ever at my place because where the Xbox 360 is hooked up, it is too small to work. I think that's Microsoft's biggest misstep with the thing. That's another reason why I think Microsoft is going to focus Kinect a lot more on voice and UI stuff. I'm hoping they do rectify the space issue, but I don't think that's going to change that Kinect is better for UI than gaming.

As for Child of Eden, that game could have been a hit, maybe not a huge hit, but a bigger hit than it was, but Ubisoft's biggest mistake with the game was making it 60$. People are never going to go for that at that price. It should have been 10$, 15$ at the most. Make it a big-name XBLA Kinect game or something. If it had been, they would have seen way better sales, and probably made money.

So much Rare hate here :(

Lets see how much crow will be eaten when we get an announcement. I believe there is a lot of potential there.

START FY14 formally starts today with international registration and pre-meeting (invite only) taking place. The most exciting things don't start happening until tomorrow though. And Thursday features the most Xbox (Durango) content. Well, considering registration is today maybe we can get some tweets from press members about this (if they are indeed invited).

Well I guess that confirms everything...

The fact the community people are there doesn't necessarily mean anything about the next machine, mind. It might, but they might just be filming dashboard crap about other stuff that could well be announced at such an event, such as new 'content partners' or whatever for apps.

That said, it is looking more fishy by the minute!

No seriously--it's about the next Xbox. I have a friend in the industry going to it. He told me it's about Durango.

Yeah, combine this with all the rumors we have heard and it looks like we have found the smoking gun.

Everyone, the Xbox Event is a Q&A with the director of the Xbox movie exclusive, Pulp.

I'm in the inside, all I can ask from you is to trust me.

we've seen the whole agenda so we already know that there are sessions on the new xbox (and a bunch of other Microsoft initiatives). I don't see any reason to believe there will be anything public, but I do hope for some new leaks

Do you know how much spacebucks MS used on fake trailers for games that will look noticeably worse at release?

I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows another guy, who knows a journalist, who's sister is a receptionist, who's dog took a crap on Ballmer's front lawn, and Ballmer told the dog the Xbox is awesome.

Dogs we can trust, if it was a cat, I'd call shenanigans.

Well eventually we are going digital only and therefore used games will be gone. Someone brought up a good point about MS making xbox 1 broadband only back then and it worked out.

I think the opposite is going to happen. I think they'll be forced to allow resale of digital goods as is currently being decided in Germany.

But I can't sell my XBLA game collection.

Digital is different. The rumor was that it was still with discs, but they were locked to the profile or console right? Also I don't buy into gaming going into digital only in the foreseeable future. I do see it coming to the point where stuff is day and date, and maybe we'll get a version oft the Nextbox that is digital only, but there are just way, way, way too many constraints right now with what gaming is to have it digital only.

I hope they are going to show this stuff to the public and not have all the Durango stuff private.

Still sticking to the idea that we won't see anything official until the 20th or later, since Gears of War: Judgement launches on the 19th, and is getting a push as the 360's last (exclusive) hurrah.

look at look in the Xbox Sales thread at many people rebuying the digital version and selling the physical discs so they don't have to get up and change discs. I have hundreds of DVDs/HDdvds/Blurays but 90% of the time I turn on netflix when I want to watch a movie. I've watched many netflix movies knowing I have the bluray/hddvd movie in the cabinet just because its right there.

Based on the rumours my excitement is almost zero for this system however I would love to be pleasantly surprised, people forget competition is a good thing.

I also think online-only is bullshit too, at least for the regular console. If they do another subsidized cell-phone type of plan then I could see it being online-only but that's the only way.
