Eidos forum admin says Tomb Raider sells 1 million copies in less than 48 hours

hopefully the sequel steers the series more towards the intial pitch of survival mechanics/open world and all that

just finished it about 30 minutes ago, amazing game. yes it was alot like uncharted but it had open areas and different ways to tackle scenarios and it felt like a tomb raider game to me.

Of course the linear cinematic cover shooter sells. Its about as simple as it gets. Just move forward, get the headshots, do the qtes, next level.

Man, innovation is so dead in AAA games. I don't know how you people enjoy all these when they're all the same.

If it's fun, I don't think all that matters.

TR is more open and varied than your standard TPS.

That said its about as "safe" and by the book checklist AAA modern game as it gets. The best thing going for the game are its visuals, presentation and atmosphere... the rest is fairly average.

Fun is subjective and its not fun for everyone. Mowing down 30 enemies in Shantytown or Solaris Fortress is about as generic and boring as any other shooter on the market. Let's not get started on those awful QTEs either.

Rebooting the franchise was a great decision but they should have put more puzzles in the game. Well deserved.

Did you play the game?

I figured it would sell great but then kind of wondered after I went with my friend to the midnight at Gamestop and more people were there for Naruto lmao.

I liked it quite a lot, I was happy with the exploration with item hunting and tombs and the combat is some of the best of this style of game. Still, going forward I'd ask for less combat and more tombs and environment puzzles when the inevitable sequel comes.

I think it's a good start though, and I hope in general we see more and broader things like this taking place because I can't really get into the on-rails, level to level stuff so much anymore.

Only major complaint with the game would be QTEs, it really needs to stop.

the tombs are a little too easy, I didn't have to youtube any of them, but i haven't found them all yet. the only thing I had to youtube was one segment near the end of the game. and feel dumb doing it.

Man, clean Redbox sweep of this game in my area. If I like what I play during my rental of it. I will buy it to support them.

I was expecting it to be pure shit but so far I'm having more fun with it than Uncharted 3. The pacing is better, it's prettier, and I'm actually exploring. These days I rarely do side missions

witness "Best selling Tomb Raider game ever" pieatorium (Thas a pretty big call since the PS1 era games sold 7mill+)
Man-is-obsolete "Wonderful 101 doesn't have to sell millions to be successful, Tomb Raider does."
Coxy "Tomb Raider will have good day one sales but probably absolutely awful word of mouth and drop dead after launch"
dorn "I expect Tomb Raider to bomb the hardest relative to its marketing and overall budget. Pushing pre-orders on people will assure that at least day one looks good but beyond that it's going to be a massive disapppointment."
Glass Rebel "Success to major success. For some reason I think they hit total mainstream gold and doubt that the rape-scene controversy will have much of an impact on sales."
MrCookiePants "And I don't think any Tomb Raider has done that poorly. Even the really bad ones. The reboot has all the hype in the world. There is no way."
Nairume "Does okay, but maybe poisons the well."
Heart Attack "Bomba of the year (700-900k) Lifetime"
GravityMan "The only game in that entire list that will be a definitive hit is Tomb Raider."
Empty "will all sell well, but not perform as well as the brands could do with better timing or more exciting pitches"
sponk "even a blind man can see that this game will be junk. Reboot or not."
AHA-Lambda "hit unfortunately"
Delusibeta "Similar sales to Hitman Absolution, so OK-to-good"
Row "I think all the Tomb Raider bomb suggestions are far more hilarious"
PetriP-TNT "bomba"
BlackJace "Sells okay"
JDSN "Mega hit"
Is there anyone who really liked Underworld and prefers this game?

I'm curious. I haven't bought it yet.
My friend told me to skip Underworld and go straight to this but he has a tolerance for QTEs

Not surprising. I figured it'd do we'll, but I'm shocked at how many people I know playing it day one. I always said the people thinking it would bomb or underperform for whatever reason are nuts.

Did you play the game? All those are present in this game as well minus fast cars.

Big guns are in the game? I used the bow almost exclusively, but the other guns are a pistol, rifle and shotgun, which is all pretty standard. There isn't even a turret sequence!
Although she does try to use one in a cutscene
I guess the grenade attachments can count as big guns.

If it's fun, I don't think all that matters.

Eh, not to me. Nothing really seems to stand out, mechanics wise. Good game mechanics are what makes a game fun after the first run through.

And I'm not the type of guy to drop sixty big ones on a game that is 9 hours or so long and I'm only gonna play once.

That Glass Rebel guy seems to be pretty sharp.

Pachter, you should offer him a job as your overpaid assistant.

I'm expecting some goddamn amazing things from the next game (and whatever DLC comes out for this one)... so good for them.

I'm aware that fun is subjective. His complaints, however (it's too simple and not innovative!), doesn't mean that people shouldn't find the game fun or that it doesn't deserve its sales.

Yeah, I felt the same. I presume it was the
cage jumping thing?

I just have to assume no one is clicking the link in the OP at all or I fell into some pit somewhere and now this is standard practice.

Well I count Assault rifle (with grenade launcher) and Shotgun as big guns. There are turret sections in the game but they are controlled by the enemy.
