Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

I would laugh if Coors Light actually was their sponsor and that was the reason for the coveniently placed package and mentions during the last three or so Unprofessional Fridays.

Finally, Zojirushi returned their calls.

I trust their judgement as well. In the hands of capable folks given a bit of freedom, ads can be fun (see: MBMBAM + extremerestraints.com). All the live streaming they do, surprised something hasn't come together already.

He says it like he can just give it a shot and say no if he doesn't like it, but does Jeff really have a say in something like that? Sounds like something that would come from up above.

Soldier was to be the most boring mass effect class to play. dont know how brad and jeff did it
That's always been one of their weirder opinions. Biotic is a more interesting class to play. Playing soldier just turns the combat in ME games into even more of a generic shooter. Playing around with biotic combos and manipulating the arc and bend of the biotic powers was the best thing about the combat in ME2.

That said, Soldier is by far the best class in the game. So if your goal is just to get through the combat as quickly and easily as possible, it's the right class to play. I can't really argue with them there.

Especially in the 3rd game. I loved the way they balanced weapons with powers. I started Mass Effect 3 the same day that I finished ME2 and noticed that power detonations were really improved. I rolled around with one gun and was constantly throwing out powers as combos as I leveled up to the point where my cooldown was 1-2 seconds. It was so much more fun than just shooting, even though it felt pretty good in that game. You could achieve some of that with just your companions, but not to the same extent.

Soldier has to be the most boring mass effect class to play. dont know how brad and jeff did it

I don't get it either. You have a massive Sci-Fi RPG laying before you, with space magic and awesome tech abilities, but people still tend to pick the generic dude with the rifle, turning all the combat sequences into a poor man's version of gears of war.

If the other classes were broken or not fun to play i'd understand, but that's not the case.

Soldier is especially useless in ME3 since you already have access to all the weapons. That's the only reason that I played the soldier in my first ME2 playthrough, I wanted the assault rifle.

Maybe some people don't find the other classes to be as fun as the soldier? Surely that isn't too shocking.

I don't think Jeff/Brad have ever even tried the other classes in previous ME games, if I recall correctly.

I thought that was only true in ME1? They seem pretty crappy to me in 3, at least...

If they gave the other classes a fair shot, that's fine.

It's way easier to go with the familiar and "standard" though. Which is in my idea the reason why a lot of people picked Soldier.

I understand everyone has their own preferences, but the soldier is such a limited class in Mass Effect 2. The only powers they have are the different ammo types and concussion shot. If you really want the different ammo types, you can spec a party member in that direction to get squad X ammo. You can still use biotics and tech powers through your party members as a soldier, but you lose the ability to aim the powers around or over cover. There's an annoying delay sometimes between when you issue the command and when your party member uses it, and it's just less fun.

IMO they should have gotten rid of either soldier or vanguard and just made them one class.

I've only played 1 and 2. If I remember right, picking anything other than Vanguard or Soldier on the higher difficulties was a death sentence.

I played soldier through all 3 ME games and it was fine. I let my squad mates handle the space magic. It was still fun to me. It's possible.

Man, Dollar Dash looks like hot garbage in the quicklook. Calling all Cars did the same thing better years ago.

It's like an early XBLA game when there wasn't much competition on the marketplace and shit like Cloning Clyde could earn money - why even release such a thing in 2013?

I don't know if it's because the camera is way too close to your character, but the movement while in combat looks terrible in ME3.

I disagree.

In my opinion Adept (specialized into Bastion) is the easiest way to complete ME1 on the hardest difficulty. Your enormous shield recharge and barrier duration (and ability to damage enemies caught in barrier) makes you invulnerable with great crowd control.

Also ME2 with a Sentinel was pretty easy on Insane. Just spamming biotic/tech power combos + tech armor.

I forgot that soldiers were actually pretty decent in 2, yeah. They were really nerfed in 3 thanks to the new powers-cooldown system.

First GB video played on my shiny new nexus7 is Citadel. Man, I kinda want to buy citadel.
How did you access the video, via the site or app?

I cannot browse Giant Bomb on my N7 at all. The site loads, but it doesn't register my taps as 'clicks'. Does it work for you? If so, what browser you using?

Using the Whiskey App. Despite the name, it works with all the new sites fully fine.

Cool, could you try loading up the site in Chrome?

Trying to figure out if it's a problem on my N7 or a site bug. For me, Chrome and Chrome Beta displays the full-width site (not the single-column mobile version) and nothing is clickable/tapable, so you can't get past the homepage.

Question about the Whiskey App (on Android at least), but since the redesign does anyone else see the video thumbnails as super-low res? I also wonder why he hasn't cut the old sites out, or even just split it up into separate Giant Bomb and Comic Vine video apps.

I just finished watching UF. I'm totally stoked for LoS2 now. I remember seeing the teaser for it and not really understanding why people were excited but I'm totally on board now.

Sponsored TNT wouldn't bother me, and it would actually fit the format more than anything else on the site. I say go for it, if it's going to keep resources flowing into the site.

Also, Vanguards for life.

Weird...yeah it's probably just a technical issue tho the image they use right now doesn't really look like their normal site design so it might be a preview of a new site redesign.

Watching the Friday show. OMG, LoS finally!. I thought they weren't gonna do it whe they were showing SOTN. Vinny's the best!

The "Ikaruga" mechanic looked pretty neat, for what it's worth. They should have spun that through the whole game (I gather it's not introduced early on).

It's used throughout the game and in a few boss fights. But the final fight is the one that really makes you use all your skills. Really fun.
