There's no bitterness, I'm just in awe of how seriously some people, yourself especially, take console wars. To become so invested in a console or company is just something that's always fascinated me.
It feels like 2005 all over again. The arguing over specifications, direction, etc, it's an exact repeat of 2005 all over again. It's an amazing nostalgia bomb, oh how I've missed it.

I'm not one to go on tangents but like I said you're placing too much emphasis on avatar, it's hardly a deal to me. I've changed 4 avatars in the last month.

It shows a level of investment far beyond what you'd normally expect. To take the time and effort, however small to create such an avatar suggests an investment above and beyond.
Are you now implying that I believed the next xbox would have a dual APU? How utterly bizarre, but perhaps not entirely unexpected. The rabid and overly invested fanboy will often attempt to divert attention away from itself when cornered.

No. The Dual-APU rumor when brought into this thread, people tried to dispel it with some fairly obvious common sense logic yet a few people kept believing in it.
I was trying to draw comparison to that. The only person bothered with my avatar here is YOU, others seemed to have liked it. So who's cornered here? Hmm ..

Bothered? No. I find it fascinating that you'd take the time and effort and go to such lengths. The level of dedication is fantastic.
As I said in my initial, I'm in awe at how invested people are in the upcoming consoles. It's a source of constant fascination and entertainment, one I was never able to fully appreciate in 2005.
yeah, it's all in good fun. If you're not involved and just watch from the sidelines it brings a little more excitement to the whole thing. I don't indulge but I can certainly admire the passion.

I'm going to laugh when the VGLeaked specs are the final thing, I wouldn't be shocked if a member or two contemplated suicide.
The rest will move on to stage 5 of my theory, deflection. We'll start seeing the diehards switch over to "it's not about teh graphix anywayz! who carez, it's about teh gameplayz bros! the most powerful neva won newayz! So 720 is safe! meh i don't even care about graphix!"

Win 7 might only use 1.5GB RAM, but how much does IE use when running? What about Skype?
The 3GB is not for the OS only, it's to allow other programs and apps to run concurrently with the game.
It happened with Nintendo fan(atics) here so there is truth to it. The quote where user MDX even now states that WiiU will do better lighting and DoF compared to Django and PSQuadruple are one of those rare glimpses of delusion that still exists today. That said, I do not think that there will be much deflection past the initial display because:
- Multiplatform games may not end up looking any different at all or if they do the difference may not be large (for the sake of keeping parity).
- It's going to shift from games to features argument. I will bet anything that once Kinect 2.0s feature is revealed, it will take the forefront position to be used as an offensive tool around here.

So basically just like the 360. Because I hope people don't believe the 360 hardware as it is only existed in 2005 and that in 2004 the hardware was completely different. Find someone who believes that and I've found you one of the dumbest people in Gaming-GAF.

I'd argue your change shows it's incredibly important and holds significant value. The avatar is a window into a person's feelings after all. I might have believed it held no value before the change, but you've all confirmed by initial posts with your reactionary change.

Windows 8 uses something like 700MB. Xbox OS will probably be way more barebones than that. Yeah, giving some space for apps running in the background does not sound liuke a bad idea.

I don't think running IE and apps etc in the background will make it 3GB,unless MS forget optimize them(then why don't just release a PC lol)
DDR3 is marginally better at CPU driven loads due to the lower latency, but caching essentially eliminates most of it's advantages, as long as you're hitting cache the latency isn't much of an issue.
Low latency isn't as important for graphics workloads, although Nvidia's use of lots of low latency cache has allowed them a bit of performance boost on AMD so it's arguable if the low latency approach MS is taking might give them a small boost in comparative performance (i.e if you were to compare 12CU's from the Durango GPU and 12CU's from the Orbis GPU you might see a slight improvement on the Durango GPU for some workloads.) but that's highly speculative. Any improvement would be minor, and the extra CU's in orbis would more than make up for it. And you've got to think if that setup is comparatively more performant then we'd have seen it used in previous APU implementations.
Ultimately it looks like Sony's got a bit lucky that GDDR5 densities and costs worked out for 8gb, while MS wanted 8gb come what may and since they couldn't rely on GDDR5 they went with a DDR3 +ESRAM solution.

We already learned from this current generation that specs, like 'bitness'/MHz/GHz/MIPS/FLOPS, don't paint a very useful picture of what a platform is capable of, partly because we don't know enough about all of the changes and additions to these PC-like architectures, and partly because we don't know if, when, and how software developers will be able to perform using them in real-world application. Or did we? I expect a lot more ambivalence toward raw power as the generation proceeds, like just all previous generations of dedicated hardware platforms seem to go. I mean, I totally get the appeal of seeing a preferred platform take home all of the hardware specification awards, as I would prefer my main console's software to not suffer under the weight of poorly-fixed limitations, but I think I have finally spent the bulk of my energy caring, especially with all of the years of tiresome Blu Ray/Cell versus DVD/Xenos arguments and rhetoric not amounting to much difference at all, even for exclusives. Personally, I think the rumored numbers seen now just mislead in a way that will end up being mostly forgotten once the new multiplatform games start appearing...very similar to one another. Console wars are only fun once the exclusive software and features are able to be pit against each other, so I'll start saving up my old warrior strength for that time and hope that the reveals come sooner than later.

It's fun either way. artist is a great sport, his overly reactionary nature makes him a joy to engage in a back and firth with.
Would you rather they change specs all the time based on rumours? Sticking with the same specs means sticking to the plan, it should give you confidence. And 12 months is nothing considering how long it takes to plan and develop a new console
It might be a bit boring for us, waiting for the reveal though. A gap that seems to be being filled with nonsense
and the other side will be there taunting, lol'ing and and being smug as hell while ignoring the PC or (entertainingly) coming up with new ways as to why the PC doesn't matter. So in other words a new console cycle. Maybe by 2014 we'll have some new "Is PC gaming dying" articles and then the whole thing will have come full circle. Fun!
That's a trap. If Durango is indeed underpowered compared to PS4 (which I think is the case) but shows off features to legitimately get excited for you've already preemptively branded those people interested in those features as doing damage control. That's not fair because there will be people like me who are content with Durango being underpowered and don't mind MS's focus being else where. Durango will be 1 of 4 different platforms sitting under my TV, I don't need/want them to all be identical. So by discussing whatever those features may be you've already written me off as a fanboy on the offensive. See what I mean?
