Soul Sacrifice Import impressions thread

Just finished the first chapter of the game. For the most part I am having no trouble playing the game with no Japanese knowledge. Battles are continuing to get crazier and crazier.

Music is really epic in this game. I can't wait for the soundtrack to come out.

Also was cool seeing 4 player ad-hoc while in Shibuya today.

The short stories with your Avalon companions are so good. Like Jonnyram said to me on Twitter, they totally remind me of the ones from Lost Odyssey. Great stuff.

How do you get new clothes? and is there a difficulty setting? did they add the jump button ? lol i got a bunch of questions google translate app is helping out though.

You get clothes by progressing with the story and side quest (not 100% sure about the second one).
No, each quest has it's own difficulty, shown on the quest select screen.
Lol, no. Why would you use a jump button anyway? The terrain is flat.

Aw. I was kind of hoping the pre order spells would be versions available in game, but with different a aesthetic.

I can't see this game being too popular. You have to unlock multiplayer by doing some bullshit story mode.

In a multiplayer focused game.

Nah, you're wrong.

Why no one here talk about the Seals? Do you guys don't use them?
Of course we use them. Nice idea for character customization, but I don't like that you can't save presets like with magicks. Since most of seals is element-based, it would only make sense to be able to switch to an ice set when you want to use ice magicks and fire set if you're using fire.

+70% dmg -35% def for multiplayer all the way \o/
Doesn't work that well for sp though, so I'm using +20%, +10% dmg instead. Other than that - stronger bombs, stronger bullets, -25% charge time and one seal for the elemental damage (were using 2 in the top 2 slots before, but the -25% charge time is better for me).

Does anyone knows what's the best way to gain souls (?) (For refilling your spells after a fight) ?
You mean tears (for fixing broken spells)? You get them after going back to the menu and touching the book. They gather after every quest.

You need tears for that, which you simply get from clearing more and more missions.

The trick is to use your spells down until you have one left (you get a warning) and then to refill it using the environment or not use it anymore. As long as you don't "break" it (by using all of them), it will refill to full at the end of the mission.

Magic quantity strategy plays a huge part in some of the harder bosses.

I didn't play the full game nor the demo, so correct me please.

There are things missing in this game which maybe counted as flaws, but I actually think those are signs for a coherent and well designed concepts behind this game with with nothing added just for the sake of it.

- There is zero exploration in the game and more focus on the hunting/combat.
From the storyline point of view, I guess that actually make sense. You're trapped in prison by an evil sorcerer for unknown reasons. So you have noway out to explore but to use the magical book beside you in the cell. which allows you dive in historical event to finish specific missions -not for sightseeing obviously- and gain more scarfical magical powers.

- The game has no focus on defense gears or armor customization.
I guess because you're basically playing as wizard/mage class. which is a class typically -in most RPG at least- doesn't rely on armor but more on the magical defenses/skills. So the customization system of the game revolve around sacrifices, and magical body tattoos/seals system instead.

Yeah, these aren't problems at all. There's armour customization, even though cosmetic. And the seals give the stats bonuses separatedly, so you can use any armour you want.

I've been playing this in like one or two mission chunks at a time. Only just finished the first Harpy fight in the first chapter. Really liking it so far. The action can get very intense and it seems like fights can play out wildly different depending on which "offerings" you choose to bring with you. I'm loving the atmosphere, too. I spent like 30 minutes reading through the various entries in the bestiary.

One thing I just noticed in my last session is how monsters turn back into their original forms upon death. Really makes it hard to go through with the sacrifice when that big nasty demon suddenly turns into a helpless little kitten.

Seems decent so far with good production values but it just doesn't grab me in the way MonHun does. Boss fights aren't anywhere near as fun yet, but I'm not very far in the game at all.

I'll have to evaluate my feelings for this game in about a week after a good amount of playtime. For now I just hope boss fights improve because so far they are not fun or challenging to fight.

"I spent like 30 minutes reading through the various entries in the bestiary"...

Care to explain what you mean?

Kyoufu..

Did you try multiplayer yet?

There's a bestiary section of the book that has a bunch of cool explanations for each of the monsters.

Keiician did you upload the stream?
I think we played 2 quests together yesterday - DJ Mizuhara who was streaming had other things to attend to...

Oh they will get challenging, you can be sure about that.

Chapter 2 mission 5, the desert one, looks like a normal extermination. Beaten it without problems some time ago.

Yeah thats the one but every time i finish it it does not unlock the next mission. I kill the goblins then the birds come out. Do you have to kill everything in a certain time limit?

Keiician add me Loveordie28 or ill add you to play sometime.

You can add me, Niiro-Matsuki is my PSN id. As for the quest, I honestly don't remember anything special about it, try saving the goblins instead of sacrificing or the other way around maybe?

You can play... but the story will be lost. And it's supposedly pretty great.

Yeah yo do lose out on a lot but dedicated peoples such as myself have been using the google translate app to figure alot of things out on my own lmao google translate aint one of the best ones but its kind of funny and enjoyable at the same time. SS is an addictive game guys and gals im surely gonna pick up an NA copy in April as well. What side are you guys leaning towards? I was gonna go yin and yang but i wanted to do something not like myself and go completely evil on dem sons a bishes.

Yeah it's kind of crap with random people. I imagine it's excellent with friends though.

Like a lot of these games, sometimes you get lucky with a decent team, most of the time you don't.

Though it's hilariously awesome sacrificing a weak link for extra damage after they die for the nth time.
