Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

It makes sense because they are 2 completely different kinds of video game sites.

They will never merge because it makes no sense. And even if they did you think they wouldn't just go off and start a new company? As for all the GS hate i don't get it. I welcome crossovers and them doing shit together because it's more content and long as it's good content who cares? It seems like a lot of hate comes from the jeff firing that took place many, many years ago which had no effect on your life.

Jeff got over it so why the fuck can't other people? It's petty.

I can't speak for others in this thread, but I don't have anything against Gamespot. I wasn't even paying attention to the "serious" side of the games industry when all the "Gerstmann Gate" stuff went down. My concern is that when a merger take place something special will be lost in the process.

You think when Jeff was shit canned, he turned and faced the GameSpot building and said, "One day, I'm gonna come back, take over this bitch and fire everyone!!"?

Makes sense to me.

Why doesn't their game database allow me to search for a game by title? Sorting alphabetically and browsing doesn't work since the word I remember isn't necessarily in the beginning of the title. Oh well, I never visit that site but I remembered they have a database that people might have made useful by now but I guess not for my needs.

I'm sure a Google search would work.

Yeah, I don't know if it's a sign of a merger or just some synergy, either way, the new show is not for me. Typically, I'd say whatever and just not watch but I fear for how it'll impact other content. It was long and planned out and is apparently weekly. Between TNT, UF, this new show and the podcast, what time will there be for Flight Club or Load Our Last Save or Random PC or whatever?

This is one of my concerns as well. They aren't limited in resources, time, and staff. Having a two hour long show every week with half of that time being shared with non-GB crew will inevitably eat into things. Best thing to do if you all care is vote with your eyes by not watching the show. Maybe if it performs poorly, or they feel that their resources can be better spent doing quicklooks for older games or whatnot, they will drop it like that Farmville series they tried that failed. Or Question of the Week. Or those supposedly almost done TANG episodes that were mentioned over a year ago.

Look I have ZERO personal ill will to the people at gamespot. That said I have tried to read/listen/watch stuff on their site, and I am not a fan of any of them.

If I wanted gamespot stuff I'd go there, but every gs person on camera Wednesday looked out of their element and cringe worthy as fuck.

Personally week 1 was so poor that I won't be watching week 2/3/4 even though I basically never miss GB content.

People really are making a mountain out of a molehill with this video thing.
It's branded as "Gamespot", because that's a more recognizable name for the general gaming audience. More people watch the video, CBSi makes more money. Done and done.

I found it pretty interesting myself. That said it took me a while to get into the podcast. Maybe as they get more comfortable you can revisit it.

I kept thinking if GS guys got invited over to be in a GB video, it would be someone filling in a blindspot (Sports, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmobas, Kevin Vanord for grognard-ass RPGs). *shrug*

I do not blame Gamespot and GiantBomb wanting a little cross pollination. It's not even the first time.

Doesn't mean I like it.

With such a personality-driven thing, I don't think it is unreasonable to be worried about throwing off the balance of personalities. It's fine for something like E3 because that's like a Christmas scenario where you see family you haven't seen in a while and it's this special, rare event. But I don't want Christmas every Wednesday.

Use the giant search box at the type of every page on their site.

That's some Count of Monte Cristo shit there. It would be hilarious if this is just another step in 'The Plan'.

Yeah, I feel the same way. And even if you aren't a fan of those folks or are just content with the status quo, cynicism and suggestions of nefarious long term plans feels unwarranted. At least folks aren't being particularly nasty - I still feel bad about what Kessler went through when he was the perceived interloper to the GB circle.

They did? Did you not watch the part where it was mainly hosted by a gamespot guy? This thread sometimes, jesus christ.

Wasn't the Gamespot guy taking questions from Giant Bomb's chat? I'm okay with it being a Gamespot thing, but I have to question how much a Gamespot user who doesn't care about Giant Bomb gets out Patrick and Brad playing baseball games intentionally poorly for 10 minutes, or Patrick and Jeff playing whatever the fuck that RPG was as a joke for 10 minutes.

I'm not watching it this week, and while I'm okay with it existing in theory, I don't think I'll be missing much. And, as said, this effectively kills their ability to do occasional live streams of other stuff on Wednesdays.

Cot damn..how many years has this site been up? How many redesigns and reiterations? And quick looks and other videos still randomly pause for me for no reason. Youtube really is the only way to watch their content.

Oh I can wait. I can already picture how that conversation will go with the rest of the crew.

I'm expecting everyone (maybe except for Vinny) to shit all over it.

Yup. Their video player sucks donkey ass. Been that way for a long time. Well, for me anyway...

The GiantBomb crew know that Monster Hunter is a big deal, even if they don't understand it. They won't shit on it.
I see you're not used to the way Giantbomb handles coverage of games they don't care about.

What's most effective to get the crew to not dismiss a game outright is to get an advocate (that isn't Alex) on the cast. Patrick is MonHun's final chance. cryingeagle.gif

Patrick is playing Monster Hunter, my guess is he'll wind up enjoying it. (I can't get into the series, personally, perhaps it's because I've only ever played single player)

Quick Look: Top Hand Rodeo Tour
Jeff ropes Vinny into some hot rodeo action on one o' them Kinects. -"Cowboy" 3/8/13

yiss!!

Patrick has been playing monster hunter and he seems posit he about it .

But yea it would be nice to get people that know about the games they are playing. Patrick and brad are the last people I would go to for sports game coverage.

I'm honestly surprised these guys don't like Monster Hunter. It seems that they do enjoy getting together for play sessions, hell they wanted to get together to play Sim City.... Sim fuckin City... seriously..

I think it's the handheld factor that holds them back the most.

Really? Nothing about the GB crew says to me that MH would be up their alley.

Although Jeff is way into PSO....

Third person action games are pretty much what they all play. Does sprinkling on some rpg elements or crafting really make the game that inaccessible to them? They like getting together for a game of Gears or Borderlands, why not for a session of MH?
