PAX East 2013 Thread

A couple of things to look out for game related.

Friday

Blizzard 10-11am: apparently they are showing something new, not huge new mmo new but just something new.

Capcom 12-1pm: They are supposedly showing 2 new games. Also talking about games already announced ( Lost Planet 3, Remember me, etc.)

Saturday

Fuse 3-4pm: All about Fuse ( formerly Overstrike) game.

Sunday

Gearbox 12:30-1:30pm: This could be interesting especially with the whole A:CM fiasco. Randy Pitchford will be there apparently. Also they are going to show some Borderlands related stuff and possibly new things (but don't get your hopes up).

If there is anything else just post it.

Get the mobile app & guide here: http://guidebook.com/g/paxeast2013 and let me know your feedback! I am one of the guys who builds it.

So useful! I wouldn't look at the schedule at all if it weren't for this.

Question, the timeframes for reminder notifications is kind of limited

10 min
15 min
30 min
1 Hour
1 Day
1 Week

Why no 2 Hour or 90 min notifications? These are the ones that I actually want but have to settle for 1 hour. Is this a guidebook limitation?

Also, if anyone here is involved in running a panel or PAX-related event just post here or PM me and I will throw up a section dedicated to GAFer events to help spread the word. I know Shidoshi is doing another panel this year and Markman is involved with the Madcatz party (which I could use a pass to still :D ).

Regarding Mad Catz Unveiled pre-party event for PAX East, the only way to get tickets now is through our giveaway online or at the door. Here is the link with more info: http://www.madcatz.com/unveiled/paxeast/

Its actually a GB limitation at the moment, but only for a certain amount of time -- the further out the event from when youre scheduling, the longer the alert times. Its something were working on simplifying. Basically, if you set your schedule/alerts like a week before the event you should have shorter options available.

So far, so good. I bagged it when it was highlighted earlier. Not sure if you had any interaction with the one from last year or no, but this is looking pretty slick and easy to use!

Thanks. Yeah, I am one of the co-founders of Guidebook (previously conventionist) so its something I'm heavily involved with.

Worth noting that I am a former droid user and current iOS user. The interfaces are equally easy to use (if I recall the droid interface correctly).

Don't forget, Noogy has a panel on Saturday about the making of Dust: AET

Thanks for the mention :) Aside from hosting the panel (Sat at 1PM at the Naga) I'm just going to hang out for the rest of the show, and hopefully *gasp* play a few games. I'm looking at the Gaf meetup as well. Super busy now, but I'm excited for the show.

I know Seattle has been hosting PAX Prime for years, and this is what, the third year of PAX East in Boston? Has PA said they intend to keep it in Boston, or have they mentioned potentially doing the show elsewhere?

Boston is a cool town, it's just far away for pretty much everybody. How about NYC, Philly, Baltimore, or DC?

I guess when you do it in once place for years you get all the kinks out and can focus on continually improving the show, but when it moves around its certainly more challenging logistically. I just wonder what it would take to get them to come a little further south...

Anyway - have fun all, and wish I could get up there.

Edit: I hope this isn't the conference equivalent of port-begging...

Because Seattle is close to everybody!

I believe Boston is locked in for like a decade. I recall the PA guys saying that Boston the city has been really great and easy to deal with, with the implication that they prefer dealing with it over Seattle.

And I believe this will be 4 years in Boston.

Oh wow, thanks for the answer! I can't help but schedule everything now (EXCITE!!) but will just undo/redo it all a few days in advance. Thanks again!

My first PAX ever. Any advice besides avoid lines via the twitter handles provided etc?

Check out the smaller/indie games on the show floor. Next to no lines for them and you'd end up being surprised by a bunch of them.

If you're going to try to play one of the bigger games, the earlier the better so you don't get stuck in a gargantuan line.

And if you get in before the show 'starts', the queue room lets into the show floor on the bottom left of that map; plan accordingly if you want

$hit, late on this again.,,, I got into Boston last Friday for the Celts game in less than 45 mins.... Is there anyway to still get tickets?

Capcom heavily hinted at yet ANOTHER Wii U game is coming soon, this is my best guess where. Question is... what could it be? Port #3 (after MH3U and Revelaitons)? An actual exclusive?

Thanks guys. This guidebook app is pretty well set up. I'm prepared to miss everything but the GB conference because I want to watch people ask the most awkward questions in the most awkward manner possible.

Wash your hands... a LOT. The Microsoft booth had hand sanitizer by each kiosk, which was quite appreciated as an exhibitor. But having a personal bottle of Purell on your person wouldn't be the worse idea in the world.

Just got badges the other day, too. Daughters are stoked, they had alot of fun last year, they're actually going to cosplay this one. I have a video of my eldest awkwardly dancing at one of the Dance Central 2 stages they had setup, it was so adorable. Everyone watching clapped afterwards.

Then we all got sick the next week. Glad this one is right before GDC, so I'll be sick *and* flying back and forth across the country at the same time.

So pumped, mainly for the Harmonix "Rock Band" panel and party, going to pick up retro games, seeing what Capcom has up their sleeves, and playing Marvel Heroes.

Boston is locked in for a long time. A lot of it has to do with there being very few venues on the East coast that can accommodate PAX.

Yep, 4th year in Boston!

OP has been updated with information to your panel. I'm hoping I can make it! It'd also be really awesome to have you at the meet-up.

I'll be there and working the Twitch booth a lot of the time. We'll have a schedule of events soon, but if you're a Siglemic fan, we'll have him performing 70-Star WR attempts every day at noon.

Traveling by car with a friend. We start from Michigan and end up in NYC on Wendsday night. We're staying the night at a friends, then we'll all leave the next morning for Salem. We'll check out the witch stuff and end up in Boston at our hotel Thursday night. We'll leave Sunday evening to go back to NYC to drop my friend off and stay another night at his place and leave for our return trip to Michigan early Monday morning.

I want to see the occulus rift first hand but that's pretty much the extent of my plans. I'll play the rest by ear. Our friend from NYC only has a passive interest in video games so I'm curious if anything really grabs his attention. I may just play off of him for the 3 days we're there.

Just wanted to mention that the line up for the Indie Megabooth was announced the morning!

http://indiemegabooth.com/

We'll be one of the 50 developers in the booth showing off our wares. Come to the Ragtag Studio booth in the Indie Megabooth and check out Ray's the Dead! Mention you are from GAF and I'll... give you a high five or something. :)

I'm worried that I haven't gotten my passes yet...

Ditto. And I just found out I can't even go, so I need to try to sell them once (if?) they finally get here.

Really disappointed too, I was hoping to see the GiantBomb panel live.

They're doing one this year, right?

Edit: Actually I think it might be here today. If anyone needs a 3 day pass, I'll sell it at cost, $70 and free shipping. Just PM me.

I just moved to the boston area for work and it just dawned on me I could finally go! Do you guys think it's safe to buy a pair of tickets on craigslist? I'm looking for 2 on sunday.

Super excited to see the Indie Megabooth, congrats on getting in :) I imagine I'll spend more time chatting with devs in that booth than anywhere else.

If you want to be super safe you should meet the person outside the convention. They should have somewhere set up that you can verify the badge is real before you buy it.

Grab one of these.

Yes, but if you're gonna do it, go in person to get them, preferably with a few people

If you have a UV light you can check when you buy them :P
But yeah meeting at the event is a good idea, or buy a pair off eBay since you can fuck over the buyer no matter what.
