Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Is it just me or is this podcast super quiet. My phone's on full volume and I have trouble hearing stuff. Definitely is quieter than standard

For whatever reason Jeff always mixes things super quiet. Even when he wasn't doing the mixing, I remember old Giant Bomb videos were practically silent and you had to pump up your volume to even get a whiff of the game's sound.

And he never will.

Some of you guys are just arseholes over the Patrick thing.
Patrick/Vinny made for a great Quick Look.

Too many Mega GB Threads imo; the last on the gaming side frankly.
One thread in community and then everything else should really just be thread specific.

GB without Patrick would be more boring GB.

This summarizes my feelings about every interaction that Patrick has with the other members of the GB site. It feels like he is constantly trying really hard to fit in.
Nah, I only get that impression during interviews alongside other GB staff. Usually when it's just the GB guys, he fits in fine.

Funnily enough, like Jeff, he's also one of the best solo guys. Comes across very chill and concise. Would definitely watch something like a "Scoops: Monster Hunter & Me" video diary.

Also, that game looks the shit. Really tempted to grab Amazon's current WiiU offer

Damn straight, Patrick brings a lot of variety to the site. 999/VLR, EO4, MonHun and indie stuff as well. GB would be a lot poorer without him.

His ears hear things louder because he can't see colours #fact

I've never understood the hate some of you guys have for Patrick.

It just seems irrational, its not like he ran over you dog or something.

Catching up on old videos- Meat mode thing in Skate 3 looks awesome. I had seen much of the bailing videos on youtube, but an entire mode dedicated to this stuff would be really amusing. I might have to buy a skate game some day. It just never looked like it played as well as the old Tony Hawk games, but I don't really care anymore.

I really hope Patrick tries to get that XFiles game running better because it looked like it would be so much fun to watch them playthrough on fridays. I'm a sucker for FMV games, though.

Patrick is great. Love him or hate him he'll be a part of Giant Bomb for a long time. Deal with it.

Again and again. Is it ok if I'm indifferent or have a personality clash or must I only operate in binary states of love and hate? Always one extreme or the other.

I dislike Patricks fondness of interrupting on the podcasts but I think it's extremely interesting and quite exciting to hear his views on games he has stated he would normally pass over. He is branching out and trying new things which gains instant respect.

So basically Patrick is the John cena of giant bomb.

Always there, always ruining segments but you gotta respect him

Heck Alex has been "the news guy" for months so Patrick can just sit around every single live stream drinking like a 16 year old sneaking beer at a house party

Guys, it was literally two posts complaining about Patrick. Do the wagons really need to be circled every time someone demonstrates an unpopular opinion?

Just like Brad's Leaving, posts about the thing that mention the thing outnumber the original by a lot.

I'll take any excuse to circle the wagons.

I mean I went through a whole weekend training seminar on it ("Circling the Wagons: What the Internet Can Learn from Bonanza"), and it'll have been a total waste of money if I don't show off the skills I learned when given the chance.

They should just track down a PS1 copy. It's one of the most unintentionally hilarious games I've played. Once you get a gun, you can shoot anyone (including yourself) during any cutscene.

I seem to recall that you have to get pretty far to run into Mulder and Scully.

I got stuck on the part at the trainyard where you had to find a specific traincar. I recall you could climb up on a pole to find the car's number and I just got lost.

What? Is there any context/reaction if you do that, or just a generic game over? This game could be gold.

I do not understand all the Patrick hate in this thread. He seems like a solid dude, writes good content for the site, and is a good addition to the bombcast. he is part of the crew, accept it and move on.

Honestly, guys, let's move on. What's wrong with Alex these days?

Other then putting a snarky subtitle on every news story / trailer / opinion piece her ever posts he is pretty ok these days.

Would be down for more Alex video content like his take on encyclopedia bombastica.

Actually Jeff could do more encyclopedia bombastica.

EVERYONE should be doing encyclopedia bombastica.

Make it weekly. Rotate through the crew each week and have guest episodes every now and again. The "I am going to talk a bunch about a important game for me" series needs more love.

But then Ryan would take even longer to put out his reviews. And we can't have that now, can we?

I would disagree that he has brought anything meaningful to the Bombcast, or to quick looks for that matter.

But woo, opinions.

999, Virtues Last Reward, Fire Emblem, and now Monster Hunter.

All of those have been interesting and meaningful things that probably would have gotten little to no coverage if it weren't for him being there.

I thought we turned around on Patrick and enjoy that he brings in new genres/types of games the rest of the GB crew don't cover. He stopped overtalking (mostly) and is really earnest on informing himself with games he doesn't know much about. He is part of the GB crew to me.

edit; I really didn't enjoy his personality at the beginning but completely turned around. Keep it up Patrick.

lol for real?

Yep, I think early in his employment Patrick maybe felt a litlle out of place but now he is a great member of the crew. Without him there are a lot of interesting games that wouldn't get covered on the site, sometimes he maybe gets a little excited and over talks to get his point across but he definitely doesn't do it as much as he used to.

Can we just put a ban on all Patrick bitching? It's always the worst and the people involved are the worst and it makes Giantbomb threads the worst.

But then Ryan would take even longer to put out his reviews. And we can't have that now, can we?

Bombastica is basically reviewing 20 year old games. Its perfect for Ryan since thats normally how long it takes him to review something.

Is he actually working on reviewing God of War? I bet he writes it off because of PAX planning and OH WOW the PAX panel will be the exact same PAX panel they have done for the last 4 years.

Patrick brought a lot more insight on indie games, more than anything

if it wasnt for him half the games that get quick looks now wouldnt, or even wouldnt get discussed on the bombcast

wether you like that or not (if you're in GB only for the funnies) is up to anyone, but saying he didnt bring anything different is just silly.

If people want to bitch about Patrick, let them.

I think a better thing to bitch about would be their dogshit video player. Every other site on the web is fine, but every time I'm careless enough to attempt to watch a video on theirs, I'm burnt for it. Shameful.

I don't go to GB for their expansive coverage of video games, I go there to be entertained. Perhaps it is interesting to some to listen to someone explain their process for grappling with the mechanics of an unfamiliar genre, but it's not to me.

I'm not going to pursue this any further than this post, as it will go nowhere. It's a matter of opinion, and of what you as an individual go to GB for. That's why I said I would disagree with Lombax, not that I would argue.

it's the worst thing. i basically can't watch their premium videos if i don't catch the livestream.

I wouldn't go that far. Jeff sung the praises of VVVVV, and Vinny and Brad both used to bring up indie games in the past. Patrick came in during a great rise in Indie games and iOS stuff that would have been covered regardless. Yeah, they wouldn't be talking about silly apartheid Flash games or whatever, but the idea that a lot of indie games would be ignored is silly.

His longer news pieces and interviews are his strength for me. I am sympathetic to complaints about hm on quicklooks over explaining things, and the desire for a return of the four man Bombcast. Also, "mechanics!"

But, who really cares? He is on the crew and will be for quite some time; he seems like the most eager of the five to join game development in the future and I would not be shocked if he gave it a shot sometime.

It's ok bruv, I've got your back, in the same boat as you *fist bump*
