Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

geez, alex was kinda being a real dick in that Q&A section.

I don't think that was intentional, though. Dude's just a little awkward and I remember him writing in an article that he has ADHD. As someone who has it too -- I can forgive a lot of the weird stuff he does(like standing up and randomly flailing around after breastmilkgate) since it's like watching myself from 5 years ago.

It's like the audience is trying to ask bad questions.

"Any advice for aspiring games journalists?"
"What about if I wanna do video production?"
"I know I asked a bad question last year, but here's another one."

Still, nothing tops "What has Greg Kasavin been up to recently? Wasn't he gonna make a game or something?".

I didn't even know this dumptruck thing was a feed. I almost thought that it was their Amazon transcription thing or something.

But yeah, "Can I interview you for The Dumptruck?" makes things awkward. lol

Is videogame journalism something a bunch of people really strive for? What is the appeal?
Is this what internet people/video game fans act like in real life?

Well according to every podcast staring video game journalists I've heard it's definitely the most important job on the planet and needs to be taken very seriously by everyone.

I wish convention panels would just stop doing open Q&A. It is always the worst thing about them.

The open and unfiltered audience interaction is a good thing and kind of the point, but there needs to be some better way to do it than "whoever gets to the microphone first".

Hahaha honestly I would have probably acted the same way. Only I might've just walked out. I mean fuck, one of your best friends who you grew up with crossed the line of consuming anonymous human substance. The floor part was a little much though.

I don't know, if we're talking all-time weird moments, the drunk Ghost Recon Future Soldier PR guy from a couple years ago was about as awkward as it gets. He goes up to the mic, asks the guys what they thought of the game and practically bursts into tears asking if they would be willing to interview him about the game.

Thankfully Ryan handled it pretty well, although there was a good amount of snark coming from Alex. The whole thing was cringe-inducing.

Didn't the dude even call it Ghost Recon: Forever Soldier? What the fuck was he up to.

I almost wish they didn't bother with these panels at all. They have their moments, but I feel bad about everything once they're said and done.

You're WAYY underselling the creepiness of that question. He wanted them to join him for an "Extended Play"

Eh, I can't say live podcast panels are great for any team. Thumbs is largely non-offensive and forcing Chris to play the guitar a bit is alright, but the only one I really remember is Sean's amazing Far Cry 2 story. Still better than GB though probably just due to the calibur of the live Emails segment.

Though I've been watching GDC Talks recently on the vault. If you want to see something with an actually good Q&A session, check that out. Attendees do pay like a bajillion dollars to attend so even people who want to thank dudes do it well.

There are people who strive to work at Gamestop, dude.

It's a job about something you love, no matter how terrible it might be.

GDC is focused and attendees are fellow peers in the industry (Mostly). Also the lectures are focused and informative first and entertaining second.

I know, I'm just saying: good questions are good

Man even the Saints Row Art Direction panel which had probably the highest ratio of naughty word content was super informative.

oh my god where is that video with the famicom games Ryan got? not the mailbag, the one where they played them.

I can't find it anywhere. its like its just disappeared from the site. I think it should be sometime after December 5 2012 because thats when they did the mailbag of them arriving, but I can't find anything in the subscriber, quick looks or features section.

it was a video with Ryan and Jeff and they just put in famicom games at random for like 2 hours or something.

i'm like 99% sure this really happened and I didn't just dream this.

edit:
oh thank god i found it, its ok everyone.

The only GB associated person that's ever truly annoyed me was Matt Kessler. I'm cool with Patrick, Alex, and the whole lot. But Kessler...yikes.

In answer to my question a few days ago on QL rankings/popularity, I found this on the GB forums:

Why does so many people not want to watch Brad die constantly in video games? That super mario game with him dying constantly was my favorite stuff ever, especially when he tries to blame it on others pushing him when they clearly didn't. :D

I'm sorry Brad, I suck at most games too.

Drew-Vinny is the best combination. Order and Chaos clashing.

Though I do love the Brad-Vinny combos because it's Vinny being the devil on Brad's shoulder tempting him to be evil.

krist lol.. age gate on their videos.. the hell is goin on with this site

The Double Fine Booth is probably right next to them.

Well I get that much, but what is the point of having anything psychonauts related out to these things at this time?

Huh, on what videos? If it's just unrated trailers and such I'm pretty sure Jeff mentioned they have to put them on some of them, he went over it in one of the jar times and IIRC (which is a pretty big if) it's publishers requiring them to do it, been there forever.

Another PC Steam Sale incoming!

Please be Psychonauts 2

Probably just repping their brands. Double Fine do own the entire brand, and it's evergreen on Steam, so no point not repping it.

Same reason why they have a character from Stacking and Costume Quest there? There was also a Brutal Legend banner so they're probably pimping their PC releases and games in general.

Yes, and the ones where if they feel like there is not enough subscriber only content or if videos are a bit light for a week because everyone is busy and then start screaming about how they have been ripped off or duped. Its 5 bucks a month, thats the cost of lunch for a day, or you can pay 50 dollars for an entire year and even during light periods there are more hours of content posted than you could get for the price of many games at launch. Some people just love to complain on the internet

idk...sure you can say "it's just 5 bucks a month" but there are so many subscription services out there and I'm willing to bet ppl that sub for GiantBomb are subbed to several others as well (myself included). I can relate to the 'need moar content!!' mentality because...well...they kinda need more subscriber content. I don't bitch about it, since the $$ is more for support of people I like who provide content (even the free stuff) that I appreciate...but there's an argument to be made there.
