seriously, I cannot sleep without knowing this answer to this. mark if you are reading this please respond.

So it would give you peace if mined?

Wow, that whole Twitter conversation is embarrassing.

I think Retro studio already co-op with epic to make Metroid prime 4 for Wii U with Unreal Engine 4.

But he is only joking to show himself in front of media interface.

Add:

If 3rd metroid prime done by Unreal engine why they would change it here to another engine?

Because you know better they used latest Unreal engine for their experience.

None of the Metroid Prime games used the Unreal Engine, that was found to be false.

STOP EMBARRASSING ME, NINTENDO FANS!

Hey remember when the Wii U was supposed to compare more favorably to next-gen consoles due to its architecture and though current gen games wouldn't impressively, next-gen game engines would run just fine? Anyone?

And the point of this question is....?

Many of the hardcore 'gaming platform fanboys' are insufferable but the Nintendo hardcore are particularly unbearable.

A heady mix of creepy and smug self righteousness makes them nearly impossible to argue with sensibly and some of those Twitter responses just reinforce that notion.

*shudder*

That is a sound theory. The sound of farting.

..., this made me laugh out loud. And now I am ashamed at laughing so hard at a fart joke.

*shakes fist*

Remember the year of current-gen ports Wii U was supposed to get at the very least.

I think Nintendo views third-parties as collateral damage to its next-gen agenda. Nintendo does want third-party support , but it won't let the obession over third-parties wanting more hardware power get in the way of making a console that is affordable and distinctively unique. Support the platform if you want or get out of Nintendo's way. Nintendo isn't interested in completely cattering to what third parties want which is why it has this habit of doing things its own way regardless of the some of the foreseeable consequences.

Get out of Nintendo's way? As in the way of their downward spiral?

And what is so "affordable" about the Wii U? It's old tech with a miniscule HDD, and a fancy controller the masses don't care about. That's marching to the beat of your own drum, while Sony and Microsoft smartly go to developers when creating a new platform for their input.

They already have that, its UE3. UE4 is for taking advantage of the future of hardware and faster/better tech.

How many games are you seeing going UE3 on next gen systems ..... it's not what I meant. There has to be a way to make an engine capable of running all those nice things you see on next gen and be able to downscale that game easily to smaller systems. Hell I've seen tech that did this.

I'm not even offfended by what Rein Said. What I'm offended of is that he's part owner of the Carolina Hurricanes... Ughhh.

How could someone legitimately be offended by what Rein said? The other odd thing is that he's trying to cover instead of just saying "grow up".

As a Wii U owner, the only thing I'm offended by is the release schedule.

People can be reasonably annoyed because he's laughing about what they paid for. Now, who actually deserves their ire is another question.

And Rein is apologizing because it's business.

Is this thread literally so big just because Rein laughed in response to a question?
Well, no. I think the implication of that for WiiU's current status/standing in the eyes of the industry (for developers like Rein and those in attendance, as well as the press) and the resulting back and forth between people that are sad/angry about that and the people that are happy about that is the driving factor behind most of the posts in this thread.

Because UE4 won't be able to degrade on older cards/computers? Unless they want to just sell to people with 680s and Titans.

Although it's getting harder to distinguish between the middleware (creation tools) and the tech (what actually gets rendered/how it renders it). Engine version number increments used to essentially mean a gigantic paradigm shift. Now they're pretty much just the latest update of what they already built out, with some new software to make content creation easier, and a couple of new features included to tempt new licensees.

I mean, look how long Ubisoft has been riding the original UE2 base they've been adding features to. Treyarch and Infinity Ward are on a juiced up idtech 3. Engine version numbers have started to lose their meaning.

Seriously, anybody who feels offended by his answer is clearly detached from reality. The UE4 engine is for machines with a certain level of technology. Wii U lacks it as Wii did with UE3. Nothing else.

Stop fucking around with this because it just make you look childish retarded.

PS: In my opinion Wii U deserves what it is happening to them. Nintendo can think that everybody will follow his path, but the sad truth is that you have to adapt to the developers, who are actually the ones that bring the product value to your machine. Perhaps the path sony and microsoft takes the industry to a dead end, but right now this is not what the people is thinking about.

If the WUST threads weren't so ridiculously massive I'd love to pull a ton of quotes out of them.
So. Much. Fail.

I think he's saying that Nintendo can't afford to go bankrupt on hardware because they don't have anything else. Sony really can't either but they don't seem to care, and MS has grander, loftier goals in mind. And I think Nintendo now has resigned to the fact that they won't be getting 3rd party support from the major Western devs and publishers so they are changing focus to indies and trying to get more Japancentric in their approach.

And you have to remember, Iwata has stated countless times he sees the industry going in the wrong direction, so obsessed with power at the expense of everything else, including pricing for platform holders and gamers, and as such he is trying to avoid the inevitable big crunch that's coming.

the only Wiining Move is to not Kinect with your core audience.

Well, maybe is just some Nintendo fans trying to get their own Uncharted 3 wall of shame. :p Online, people just love their hyperboles.

I remember AceBandage stating with utmost confidence that Wii U would run PS3/360 ports in 1080p with 16xAA. He was supremely convinced of that and the worst part was that those threads were such an echo chamber filled with fake insiders that no one called him out on it.

I think it's more of the fact that people are celebrating that the wiiU is getting poo-pooed.

And? If some people see the wii u as last gen, over priced, and an unappealing product and think it is funny or whatever, whats the problem?

People in the 70s laughed at the Gremlin/Pacer cars, people in the 80s laughed at New Coke and Crystal Pepsi, people in the 90s laughed at McDonald's Pizza & Microsoft's WebTV, and in the 00s people laughed at the PS3 and Sony in general. Dud products are funny.

People who use disposable consumer products as an important part of their identity and self-worth on the other hand, are scary and fascinating.

So many of 'em are no longer with us. I'd love to hear their responses to the U's present situation.

Well put

Holy shit this thread is even worse than I ever thought it'd be. There's literally a guy in here who can't sleep if Mark Rein doesn't answer his irreverent question... Think on that shit for a second.

Nuke this shit from existence!

Fascinating in the sense that it's fun to poke at and revel in their psychological dysfunction? Because that's most of what I see in this thread, and it's just as sad as the original delusion.

Wait for the updated dev kits :)

They're on Twitter, bitching about GAF and calling for bans.

Lesson learned: Laughing publicly at a Nintendo product will make you a target of Nintendo Nation.

I hope other industry folks have been watching.

Well it's to be expected, there are some folks who live for moments like this.

And if he didn't think it was an issue he'd not had replied at all. If I was him wouldn't had replied to anyone's "tweets", at best i'd just have released one statement about being taken out of context, because at the end of the day I still run a business.

Speaking of tweets, who are those two guys anyhow? Can't just be some normal dudes tweeting because I imagine he gets thousands of tweets a week.
